Chapter Text
*RIIINNNNNGGG*
The sound of my alarm pierced through my ears, jolting me awake from my sleep—one of the best sleeps I had all month.
Someone offered to cover the morning shift for me, so I was off for the day, but Zooble’s car was at the shop, so I—being the amazing and kind friend I am— offered to drop them off to work while their car was being repaired.
I plop out of bed, stretching my legs as I rub my eyes. It was dark in my house, just how I liked it.
My legs walk my way towards the restroom, yawning and stretching a few more times on my way there.
I flip on the light switch, the fluorescent lights burning my eyes. I—who was temporarily blinded by the bright light— searched frantically for my toothbrush.
The soft bristles brushed against my fingertips, making me grab the head of the toothbrush and turn the faucet on.
The sound of water murmuring against the sink was relaxing, calming me down a bit from the shock of the bright light stinging my eyes.
A soft buzz filled my small-sized bathroom.
Zooble Noodle: hey pomni. just wondering when you’re leaving the house.
I squint, staring at the message for a while.
6:34 a.m. .. their shift doesnt start for another hour or two.
Me: Maybe… in an hour or two? I don’t know.. I just woke up.
Zooble Noodle: okay. i’ll be ready by then.
I place my phone down on the side of the sink, setting it on ‘do-not-disturb’
—
Just did the normal routine: brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed, and try to look alive.
I wasn’t the most fashionable person.. My daily outfit consisted of a baggy v-neck t-shirt and some jorts, sometimes a square-neck top & jeans if i was feeling ‘fancy’.
7:27 a.m.
..okay.. I have some time for myself.
Usually, I’d microwave some Hot Pockets for breakfast since I didn’t want to wake up earlier than I already did to cook a 5 star meal in the morning.
But today, I was gonna cook something special for myself.
Fried Rice!
Well, okay that’s not ‘special’, but it’s special to me.
The kitchen cabinet squeaked as I swung it open.
Took me a few tries to actually reach the cabinet, but then I gave up and relied on my handy-dandy stool.
I reach over for the empty container where i usually store my rice in.
Hm..guess I’ll have to pour more rice.
I reach over for the rice bag that I so conveniently placed right next to the container
The bag slumps in my arms , feeling..light.
I take my fingers, spreading the opening of the bag wider, really taking a good look at how much rice I had left. There was enough for me to cook.. m’kay, still down for fried rice.
Where’s the cooking oil…
A loud squeaking sound echoed throughout the kitchen, the cabinet underneath the counter still slightly swinging back and forth.
”Aha!”
..
Oh
The cooking oil is..empty.
I grab the empty bottle, giving it a good look before tossing it in the sink.
I needed more dispenser bottles anyways.
A soft sigh escapes my throat , my eye catching the fridge I honestly forgot existed
I partly open the fridge, scanning the cold ice box to see if there was anything I could take a quick bite of.
I really needed to stock up on groceries..
7:45 a.m.
I grab my phone out of my pocket, scrolling through all of my contacts until i find Zooble.
Me: Meet me at my car.
Zooble Noodle: gotcha.
I shove my phone back into my pocket, a soft buzzing sensation in my hand.
I slip on my chucks, grab my keys, and head out the door
The warm, summer breeze slapped me once I stepped outside.
I liked the feeling of the gentle wind brushing against my skin, blowing through my short, brown hair.
I unlock my car, sitting down in the drivers area while adjusting the seat back and forth.
The car’s engine sputtered as I twisted the key into the ignition switch. This was a 9-year old Honda Civic that I got as a hand-me-down (which I don’t mind), but this car had its own problems.
The passenger door swung open, revealing Zooble, who looked..cool.
I mean, they always look cool. Their bright, pink complexion made them stand out in crowds, but that paired with their awesomely sick tattoos—they look badass.
“Sooo..” i say, dragging out the word. “Any song request?”
“Hmm..” they muttered, looking so lost in their thoughts, looking like they were thinking too hard about what song to choose.
”Pass your phone,” they said, their hand reaching out towards me.
I hand over my phone, creeping over their shoulder, curious about what song they were going to choose.
‘Cornerstone’ by Arctic Monkeys starts playing inside the small car.
“Oh my gosh!” I exclaimed, “Wait—turn this up! I love this song!”
Their work wasn’t too far from our apartment. It was about a ten minute drive away depending on the traffic. Today, traffic was.. trafficking.. The stoplight was broken due to some weirdo cutting off one of the wires (they did get arrested for that..it was all over the news!), and there’s only one person directing traffic, so yeah—traffic is crazy.
After about.. 20 minutes, we finally arrived at Zooble’s work (yup, an extra 10 minutes because of traffic..).
The bright neon ‘OPEN’ sign glowed the entire front area— the sign surprisingly bright enough the glow through the beaming sun.
”Let me..uh— park first.” I say, pointing at the café right next to their work. “I’m gonna go grab a drink after I drop you off.”
Zooble nodded, looking out the window with their arms crossed.
I took a right turn, entering the free parking spot that just opened.
”Zooble! Tell me if there’s any cars!”
..
”You’re good! Take the parking.”
I double check— just in case— and I see that i’m clear.
I stir the wheel, trying the park the car straightly until—
*BAM*
Zooble and I shriek, turning behind us as we see that we just got rear-ended.
“Zooble!!” I yell, “You told me there were no cars!?”
”Because there weren’t any cars!” they retorted, putting their hands up in the air to show that they were ‘innocent’. “Plus, you doubled checked, so it’s also your fault too.”
I sigh, running my hand through my hair.
”Can you go.. check out the back for me? Just to see if there’s damage or not.”
Zooble opened their door and slammed it shut when they got out.
They were out there for quite a while..
I turn the engine off, exiting out the door to see what was taking them so long.
”What happened?” I asked.
“Its just..”
They paused for a moment before continuing.
”There are scratches obviously, but the damage looks..really minor. That’s a good thing, but the hit felt too violent for this minor scratch.”
I check the back, and they were right.
Yeah, there were a few scratches, but it wasn’t as much as I expected it to be.
I spin around, noticing that the car that hit us was still there.
I walk up over to the car, not wanting to cause a huge deal over this, but I wasn’t going to just brush this off.
”Excuse me?” I say, about to knock on the window before it starting rolling down, revealing an annoyed—but concerned (in a way) looking bunny.
“I-! Uh..wait, Jax?”
He squinted a bit before snapping his fingers in recognition.
”Ah, yes. That’s me. You’re..uh..”
He snapped a few times, looking up in the air before finishing his sentence.
”Palm knee.. POMNI! Yes I remember you! I, uh, sat behind you in Chem if i’m not mistaken.”
“Uh- no, you’re not mistaken.”
He looked the same:
His purple fur was still messed up in a cute way, like he did it intentionally. And his eyes and teeth were still the same shade of yellow—not in a disgusting way, it suited him.
“Watch out for cars when you’re parking by the way, I was passing by..if you couldn’t tell.”
Well, yeah, I couldn’t tell because your fucking car just spawned out of nowhere
”Well,” I say, brushing the non-existent dust off of my shirt. “you should’ve payed attention to what’s in front of you. It’s already enough that I have to crank my neck 180 degrees just so I don’t get hit. Where did you even come from? I didn’t even see your car?!”
He tsked under his breath, looking annoyed and irritated with this whole situation.
“I was over there,” he said, pointing to a random direction where Pomni nor Zooble cared to check.
Oh.
Yeah, I was in the wrong for this..
“O-oh!” i stammer.
God.. I sound like an idiot!!
I clear my throat, restarting my sentence.
”I..didn’t look over there.” I admitted, and I swear I saw a slight grin appear on his face. “Sorry. I’m sorry. But hey, at least both of our cars seem.. intact!”
He stared at me, his eyes roaming all over my face.
He turned towards the road and shrugged.
”Well, at least we know who’s fault this is,” he said , his fingers playing with the leather on his steering wheel.
“Not mad about it by the way, just feels good knowing I’m not the reason your car has scratches.”
Oh, this jackass.
I turn my back on him, observing the scratches a bit more, seeing if I had to take this to the shop or not.
I heard the slightest chuckle come out of his throat.
”Seeya around, Pomni.”
