What Will it Take for You to Kiss Me?

Summary:

During a routine checkup, Suletta finds herself growing anxious about the future. Seems like it's Miorine's job to make her forget those worries.

Work Text:

Suletta was surrounded by the same off-white walls she had lived within for the past month, ever since she awoke from her brief coma. The room was nice enough, even if she wasn’t a fan of the fluorescent lights, or the oft-too-clean aesthetic of the place, or the constantly noisy machinery, especially the hear monitor’s constant beep…beep... Okay, she never really did like hospitals all that much. But at least her room had a wonderful view of the sprawling space colony the hospital was housed within. Plus, right in front of said window, sat Miorine, tenderly holding her hand, even if she couldn’t fully feel the sensation.

Of course, the room didn’t always have a doctor sitting on a chair at the foot of her bed, looking at a set of notes clung to a clipboard. Today, though, was checkup day. These checkups were usually quite stressful for Suletta, as she worried she would fail them for some way out of her control. The doctors, while always nice and cordial, were also a bit emotionally impenetrable. It made any reassurances they gave about her health feel a little… hollow.

Even still, the doctor flipped the pages on her clipboard back, looked up at her, and smiled, “Everything is looking good, Miss Mercury. Your nerves are healing at an exceptional rate, to the point that you should be able to return home sooner than expected. Of course, even then, you’ll still have to come back for your physical therapy, but the rest of your care can be self-administered.”

That explanation washed over her, and was somewhat reassured by it. It would be nice to be somewhere familiar… even if she didn’t know where exactly that would be, given everything her mother went through. Plus, there were still her doubts about the doctor. A near silent moment, even with another beep…beep…

Even still, she nodded, gave as full of a smile as possible, and said, “Th-thank you, doctor.”

As the doctor responded, Suletta could see Miorine’s face change in her periphery. The woman had looked relieved at the doctor’s words at first, but upon hearing Suletta’s reaction, her face returned to the concern it had before. It was maybe slightly different, she wasn’t fully sure. The silver haired woman looked down, briefly, eyes deep in thought, before looking back up at the doctor, face determined.

“Ms. Sheen,” she said, “Could you give the two of us a minute? Visiting hours are going to be over soon, and…”

“Oh! Of course!” The doctor said, a little too enthusiastically, “Take all the time you need, and you can call me back when you’re ready.” She then stood up with her clipboard, sped over to the door, then left the room.

Once they were alone, Suletta let some of her tension out with a sigh. But, near immediately, Miorine’s determined gaze turns to Suletta’s. It would have made her jump in any other circumstance.

“What’s wrong, Suletta,” she said, in her stern yet somehow lovingly warm voice.

Still, Suletta found herself scared to answer, stumbling over her words with another beep…beep…

Miorine’s expression became softer, “You can tell me, I won’t be mad.”

Suletta stared into Miorine’s eyes. Really stared. And she sees those same eyes she fell in love with over her time at Asticaccia. Those same eyes that were the first thing she saw after saving the world. Those eyes she could trust.

“I… I may not like it here, in a hospital. But… but I at least know its here. I-I don’t know what I’m going to do, where I’m going to go. I… I can barely w-walk. A-and I don’t know where I’m going to go now that my Mom’s…” She feels like she could cry, her eyes watering. Before that dam could break, though, Miorine moved closer to Suletta, practically over her, face stern, determined, more than she had ever seen.

“Suletta, you’re… you… You’re an idiot if you think we’d abandon you just like that.”

“H-huh?”

“Everyone at Earth house cares about you, you’re some of their closest friends, you helped them all figure out what they’re going to do with their lives. There are so many people on Earth who already know about how you’ve helped them. And I… I love you!

“You saved me from destroying myself. I was just angrily flailing at anything related to my dad, but you helped me to point my emotions in a proper direction. But you also just make me happy every day I’m around you. I’m so happy to know you Suletta, and I wouldn’t give it away for the world!”

Suletta was in awe. A part of her knew all this, but hearing it out loud like this was completely different.

“I don’t care what it takes, but you’re mine, so I’m keeping you with me. If you want to live with me at the academy, or in our own home afterwards, or whatever, then so be it, so long as I can have the privilege of caring for you, living with you. Got it.”

Suletta smiled widely, holding back a happy sob, nodding heartily. Miorine, of course, smiled in response, happy to have won this duel. So caught up in her emotions, Miorine seemed to involuntarily grab Suletta’s face and pull it towards her’s. Their lips clashed, melting into each other, tongues beginning to wrap around each other, dancing in a perfect rhythm. It almost matched the beep-beep-beep of the heart monitor, as it increased its pace, faster and faster and faster.

Barely in the periphery of her senses, Suletta could hear the door to the room open, the doctor speaking up from the opening, “ARE YOU O… Ah… I’ll leave you two to it.” The door then slowly closed, as if to hide its presence. She could take note of it, but in this haze, she could care less if anyone saw her happy and content.

Eventually, the two split, breath heavy on each other, rich with emotion. Suletta had never felt so loved by someone as she had at that moment. She practically had hearts in her eyes as she stared up at the woman she loved, who still stood cradling her head so lovingly, her beautiful smile content with its victory. It was only then she realized…

“My first kiss…”

With that Miorine suddenly blushed, gripping Suletta’s head tighter, “W-wh-get your mind out of the gutter, Suletta,” her voice filled with chuckles. Eventually, Suletta followed in the laughter, both filling the room with their shared voices. It was as if the two’s souls were united, connected in love and trust, more than anyone else in that same facility.

And all it took to get there was a near-war mecha crisis, a chance encounter, and a simple kiss.

Notes:

Welcome to day 2 of my SuleMio Week coverage, where it's time for a Medical Checkup and a Kiss. I know it feels a tad similar to my last piece, but it just made sense to me to go in this direction, you know. I did put a lot of myself into Suletta for this one, as someone who is working through some medical trauma which I won't go into, but it was fun to give that kind of character a bit of catharsis.
Alongside this, I did decide on placing a brief Emma Sheen cameo. She's from Zeta Gundam, is Bisexual, and I like her a lot. You should watch Zeta Gundam. :)
Anyways, next time, we'll be going to space in a more grounded, way, so stay tuned for Day 3!
