Chapter Text
Huening Kai met Kang Taehyun on the first day of high school. They were both freshmen at the time. Somehow, as if they were connected by an invisible string, they shared every class, which eventually lead them to start talking. At the beginning, Kai didn’t really consider Taehyun a friend, more like a companion to make high school less boring, Taehyun, on the other hand, had fallen for Kai the second he saw him walking in the classroom in first period. Taehyun knows from the beginning that Kai is the type of people who doesn’t connect with people easily, unlike him. So he keeps trying to please Kai and keeps being by his side in hopes that Kai notices him and thinks of him as more than just “The guy he talks to in class”. And it works on Kai, maybe a little too well because after a year of Taehyun showing up to his house unannounced, buying him his favorite snack every day and just invading his personal space, Kai starts falling for him, and falling hard. Taehyun was already deep in his crush to a point where he didn’t even think it was a crush anymore, it was pure love. As the years passed, Kai and Taehyun kept falling more and more with each other without ever saying anything, neither of them wanting to ruin the special friendship they had.
Fast forward to senior year, Kai and Taehyun are both down bad for each other, Beomgyu, Taehyun’s best friend, is the first to tell Taehyun to ask him to the prom, “Nope” Taehyun says, stealing a fry from Beomgyu’s plate “I don’t wanna ruin our friendship by making it weird, he’s all I have, plus, I’m not even sure if he’s gay” Taehyun says, now with his hands on the pockets of his hoodie. “Dude that is the gayest guy i’ve ever seen, he’s gotta be at least bi, why don’t you ask him?” Beomgyu says, following it up with “Dude, relax, you don’t have to do it right now, it’s still September, you’ve got all senior year to ask him” Beomgyu finally says, trying to reassure Taehyun. That’s right, he did have all senior year to ask him to be his date to the prom, but would he take it?
Kai on the other hand, was feeling ready, he had planned everything to the word on how he was going to ask him, he had the best ‘Promposal’. He was going to take him to their spot in the park they always went to and ask him there, he had prepared a basket full of Taehyun’s favorite snacks and a few gifts he knew Taehyun had been wanting and a sign that said in big, bold letters “Prom?”. So he prepared everything, left everything set up in the park and texted him to ask him to meet him at the park. The whole time that Taehyun is on his way, Kai starts to overthink it. Thoughts like “What if he thinks i’m a creep?” or “What if he sees me differently after this?” Start popping up on his head, but he forced himself to snap out of it. A few more minutes go by and Kai sees Taehyun walking towards him, so he stands up, grabs the big sign and shows it to him. Taehyun was surprised when he managed to make out what it said, his heart was beating so hard, he felt that it was gonna come out of his chest, he runs towards Kai and hugs him, not giving Kai time to think. “Of course, you idiot, how could I say no to you? I’ve had a big fat crush on you since freshman year when I saw you entering Mrs. Choi’s Biology class” Kai blushed at that.
After that, they spent the rest of the afternoon holding hands and eating snacks until it got dark. That’s when Taehyun received the text from his mom: ‘Come home now. We need to have a talk’. “What could that possibly be about? Kai asked Taehyun, half joking, half serious. “I don’t know, but I should probably go home before my mom kills me” Taehyun responds, letting go of Kai’s hand. “Well, I’ll see you at school tomorrow right Taehyunnie?” asks Kai, packing everything up so he can leave too “Of course Kai, I’ll text you when I get home” Taehyun answers, already walking away from Kai.
