Parrot was used to not being able to sleep, ever since he had started running for his life from the mafia that is, but his sleep deprevation was usually because they couldn't find a safe place and time that sleep wasn't worry when their lives were on the line.
But now, he was sure they weren't currently being followed, him and wifies could be a little more comfortable which was why parrot was currently laying on a makeshift bed of scap clothes and his jacket.
Wifies had insisted that he would be one to sleep, pointing at Parrot's eye bags as proof even though the dog himself had the same if not worse.
But "Someone has to keep watch" Wifies had said and Wifies had already made his mind that someone would not be Parrot.
Parrot sighed, staring at the ceiling of the cave they were currently hiding in. Wifies was sitting on the ground, a piece of parchment sat on his hands. Wifies' hands were very beautiful, Parrot found himself thinking. His fingers were long and neither thick or thin. His claws always seemed well taken care of too, even if they were currently on the run, he never saw wifies intentionally taking care of them too; a little weird how that was but still very pretty.
"Wifies." Parrot said, not too loud but with the slight echo of the cave.
"Hm?" Wifies responded, turning his head towards Parrot. "Can't sleep?" He asked, his eyes softening as he stared at his feathered friend. One of Parrot's headwings twitched under the watchful eyes of his best friend. Wifies always seemed to know what was happening with him.
"You think bro?" Parrot said, sitting up slightly. "It's hard to sleep while someone is basically going on his millionth hour without sleep."
"Okay dude." Wifies let out a huffed laugh. "You know–"
"Yeah. I do." Parrot sighed, staring at Wifies. His eyes always cought on the two beauty marks under Wifies' eyes, they were.. cute. Would he ever tell that to wifies? No. He much prefered just poking them as a way to tease the wolf hybrid. "Someone has to keep watch." He mimicked Wifies' monotone voice.
"But if you keep sitting hunched over like a shrimp, you're going to develop a really bad herniated disc bro. Just come lay with me, you don't have to sleep if you're so stubborn to deprive yourself; at least let your body relax."
"I'll be fine." Wifies responded which had Parrot's lips shaping into a tight line. He had said all that and this guy responded with a mere 'I'll be fine.'
"Bro" Parrot exhaled, Wifies looked very much like he was enjoying Parrot beg for him to come to bed.
"I can't sleep okay? Come lay with me."
Wifies smiled, his purple eyes narrowing slightly with satisfaction. As a Clone, he did not need an ounce of sleep. He did let himself rest and his body shut off sometimes but he really didn't need to close his eyes and let sleep take him to continue living. His body was made to be efficent and sleep, most of the time, wasn't efficent.
Especially at times where Parrot's life could be in danger. But every now and then Wifies liked indulging himself.
"Alright." He nodded, getting up from the ground with a soft huff. Parrot's jaw dropped at his immediate acceptence.
"You suck bro." The avian said, laying back down. His large, colorful wings, which were still very radiant even within the dim lighting of the cave, spreading open slightly so they weren't being squished by his body.
Wifies chuckled, it was nice to see Parrot not as stressed as usual. He always liked it more when Parrot was carefree, even if the sight of him in lost thought while he was making plans was still very endaring.
He slowly let himself lay next to Parrot, mindful of his wings. For a few minutes both of them were quiet, not in the awkward way, Parrot usually used the short time of silence to convince himself that Wifies wouldn't eat him if he scooted closer. Not literally. That's how it went no matter how many times they had laid together or how many times they had cuddled.
Parrot always seemed struggle with giving himself the comfort of Wifies's warmth and Wifies was happy to give Parrot as much time as he wanted. If Parrot came to him in the end, all was fine.
Wifies's wolf ears twitched slightly as they caught the sound of fabrics under them rustling as Parrot shifted to lay on his side very slowly as if his movement would cause Wifies to explode.
Wifies waited a few more seconds to see if Parrot would scoot closer and snuggle close to him but the bird was unmoving, stiff as a statue. So Wifies was the one to move; he shifted closer to his best friend, moving his arm under Parrot's head so the man could use it as a pillow. As a response, Parrot nuzzled to Wifies' shoulder, closer to his chest.
"You push yourself too much bro." Parrot muttered, one of his head-wings fluttering. Wifies let out a slight chuckle feeling it against his neck.
"Wow, look at you acting like you live the healthiest life." Parrot chuckled, Wifies liked that noise.
"Stop being an ass and relax." Parrot said, he himself relaxing into Wifies' presence. With his ear pressed into Wifies' chest, he could hear the man's heart. It always beat in the same soft thump-thump-thump, never did it change rythm; not slower or faster like the moving cogs of a machine.
It was obvious the man had very good control of his heart, if that was even possible; what he didn't seem to have control over was his tail. The appendage made Wifies' emotions very apparent when he wasn't surpressing its movements. And now, Parrot could make out that Wifies was enjoying himself by the soft sounds of his tail hitting the fabrics under them.
"I am relaxed." Wifies nuzzled into the top of Parrot's head, inhaling in his scent. "Well, not too relaxed. Someone still has to make sure we're not in the hands of the mafia by tomorrow." He added.
"Hmn.." Parrot made a soft sound, his eyes fluttering close, his arms wrapped around Wifies' torso chasing after the warmth provided by the man.
"Goodnight, Parrot." Wifies whispered. His ears perked up, listening not to sounds sounds of the calming night life outside but to the relaxing breathing of the avian laying next to him. He waited a few seconds for Parrot to fall deeper into sleep, he was never the deepest sleeper. The way they lived didn't let that happen but once he was tired he could fall into a point where he wouldn't wake up even if Wifies changed positions to lay on his side and burry his nose into Parrot's neck.
His fingers moved through Parrot's feathers with a gentleness that bordered on worship. He closed his eyes, he wished they could have this comfort anytime, that they didn't have to be vary of their lives all the time. But there wasn't much Wifies could do when the bird he loved with his mechanical heart was the most stubborn person to exist.
Or maybe there was.
