Work Text:
Dazai stumbles along the streets, the wind whipping at his clothes, tousling his hair. He sways a little more than usual, the alcohol and drugs in his system acting as the perpetrator.
He had just left his favorite bar for a quick drink-though one drink was then a few, and then a few became many, and suddenly he had spent almost the entire night there. Though he wasn’t worried, he probably didn’t have work tomorrow, and if he did, Kunikida would give him hell, but what’s new?
All that roamed his mind was the sweet bliss of passing out on his bed, or his couch-whatever was nearest-so he decidedly hurried his messy steps through the city to get to his apartment.
Once there, it only took a handful of minutes to fish out his keys and then another handful to actually unlock the door.
What was unusual though, was not that the door was already unlocked but that it was slightly left ajar. Through the warm haze in Dazai’s mind he either didn’t notice it, or didn’t care enough to think too much of it.
Dazai shrugged his coat off taking no notice it fell off the side of the couch and onto the floor. He kicked his shoes to the side, grumbling and muttering to himself incoherently-likely something along the lines of his much wanted sleep, or the deep hunger for death at this hour. He stumbles over to the old couch and falls over onto it, already half asleep, though instead of the plush pillows and stray blankets he falls on, it’s instead rather hard and uncomfortable and it makes a loud shout before pushing him off and onto the floor.
“Agh!” Dazai lands harshly on the floor. Groaning out in pain and exhaustion. He rolls over onto his back, facing the ceiling and only looks over to the couch when he hears a muffled shout.
The room is dark and cold and spinning, even then Dazai easily spots that long fiery hair. A smug grin warms dazai’s face at the sight of Chuuya yelling at him-even if he can’t exactly distinguish what Chuuya’s saying through the ringing in his ears. Eventually, the annoying ringing in his head stops and is suddenly replaced by the even more obnoxious ringing and ranting of his former partner lecturing him.
“You’re not even listening are you, Dazai?!”
“Huh?” Dazai finally responds, only staring blankly at Chuuya’s face.
“God you’re insufferable-and you’re a mess, you reek of alcohol.” Chuuya spits out, arms crossed and standing over Dazai.
Chuuya’s hair is messy and long, hanging over his shoulder, his eyes-tired-and brows knit together in frustration. He wears a white button up creased and wrinkled from restless sleep, his other accessories and layers pilled up by the side of the couch. The only difference for Dazai being that there are two Chuuya’s standing above him. “More the merrier I guess..” Dazai thinks, out rather accidentally says it out loud.
“What the hell are you talking about?!” Chuuya spits out patience running thin. “Huh? Oh yea there’s two of you… not that I needed another dog but-“ “Would you shut up about that?! That deal died off years ago-besides-wait, are you? Are you fucking high?! Where do you even get stuff like that?!” “I can be verrrryyyyy persuasive when I want to be..” Dazai teases. “Ew-just stop there I don’t need to know anything more- jus g t u n sisisjjs sown….” Chuuya’s yells muffle out to gibberish as Dazai’s gaze roams up to the ceiling.
The cracked paint appearing almost like stars gleaming in the dark room. Shining bright blue. An achingly familiar blue Dazai wants to bottle up and keep close to his heart as to forever ingrain that beautiful color to his soul.
“God you’re a messy drunk.”
Dazai snaps out of his disassociation suddenly upset. “You’re one to talk, ‘mister I love wine and I’m short!’” Dazai argues. “Would you shut up already?! I told you I’m still growing!-“ “You’ve been saying that for seven years-“ “And it’s true!”
“Agh-would you quit yelling already, the room is spinning and I have a headache…” Dazai attempts to haul himself up off the floor, instead he falls back down, clutching his head in pain and curls up into a ball.
“You’re the one who fell on top of me.”
Chuuya grits out, annoyed though his gaze softens just a bit at the sight of Dazai curled up in pain. He lets out a scoff in reluctance as he tries to grab hold of dazai’s arms and help him up.
It isn’t successful.
Dazai just ends up falling back on the floor, the weight of his spine folding in on itself as he or his body refuses to move.
“Get up dazai, if you’re going to fall asleep, do it on the couch.” “What were you doing on my couch in the first place, chuuya? I mean, not that I’m complaining, it was quite the sight seeing you sprawled out there but-“
“You knew I was sleeping there and you threw yourself on top of me anyways?!” Chuuya yells out, interrupting Dazai’s moment of blissful recall.
“Call it a lesson learned for breaking into my apartment.”
“You wouldn’t have cared if someone broke into your apartment anyways, you left your door unlocked.”
“Still, a call would’ve been nice…”
Dazai sighs out, pouting his lips.
Chuuya does the same, but more for annoyance. “Just get off your ass and go to the couch already.”
“And where will you sleep, since apparently we now share an apartment?”
“Would you prefer I drag you to your bed?”
“Mmh, something along the lines of that.”
Dazai hums teasingly. “HUH?! I-you- get the hell up, you’re going to bed. NOW.”
Chuuya-with all his force-drags Dazai up by his arms and leads him to his room. It isn’t an easy feat, considering the height difference between the two, and the one being dead weight and practically draping himself over his friend but he manages to throw him off on the bed and drops dramatically to the floor besides dazai. Chuuya leans his head back on the mattress catching his breath and resting his eyes. The other, dazai, rolls over to his side and eyes chuuya.
“Why are you here chuuya?”
“Gee, not happy to see me?”
“You know that’s not true.”
Chuuya’s silent for a moment or two. The tension braiding into a knot between the two.
“Just came for a visit, and to crash here”
“Mmh.”
Dazai hums in acknowledgment and his gaze drifts to the ceiling.
It’s no longer spinning-which dazai is immensely grateful for-but the stars he loved so dearly are no longer shining as brightly. No longer dancing across his gaze and reaching down into his chest to warm his cold body. “Should’ve bottled them up before they went away.” He thinks.
A few moments pass and chuuya opens his eyes. He begins to stand up before Dazai’s hand reaches out for him. He grabs hold of Chuuya’s wrist and tugs slightly, all fight leaving his tired body. Chuuya looks back at Dazai. His flustered face from countless drinks. His messy tousled hair, the wrinkled shirt and vest he wears.
“Tch, what do you want now, Dazai?”
“Stay.”
Chuuya jerks back in surprise. He’s about to lecture Dazai about joking around like that but his gaze argues back. He’s not joking. He’s not playing a stupid prank or teasing chuuya like usual. His eyes are dark and half lidded from exhaustion. His grip is gentle, but pulling him down beside him, a silent demand to truly stay.
Chuuya swallows and slowly kneels onto the bed above dazai. They stare back at each other. Dazai’s hands work their way up to Chuuya’s leg and waist while Chuuya slowly leans down closer. They stay like that, too scared to move and break the spell before chuuya suddenly leans in and kisses him.
Dazai’s hands grip the fabric of his pants and shirt, before one hand slowly creeps up into his top, touching his burning skin, and pulling him ever closer. Chuuya holds onto Dazai’s shirt collar tightly before one moves to his thick wavy hair tugging and twisting it along his fingers. Dazai groans in response and deepens the kiss. It tastes of whatever alcoholic concoction Dazai had prior, and full of the tension seven years held. Seven years of wanting and emotions too difficult to convey. Seven years of two messed up people all too stubborn to make the move.
Chuuya finally pulls away panting, after what feels like hours, and looks down at dazai. His now much more flushed face matches his heavy breathing though his brows knit together in concern. “Are you alright? Did I bite you too hard?” Chuuya shakes his head but continues staring down at him, his expression growing more uncertain.
“What’s wrong?”
Dazai questions, his hand coming up to cradle Chuuya’s face. Chuuya shakes his head once again biting back words he wants to say but won’t.
“You need sleep, Dazai..”
He begins to get up before being tugged back down. His back hits the warm space beside dazai and feels his arms wrap around his torso. His head snuggling into the crook of his neck.
“Then still stay.” Dazai mumbles into his hair.
“Tch, what are you doing, Dazai?”
“Bottling up my stars. Keeping ‘em close.”
“Huh? You know, I never could understand a single thing u say when you’re drunk.”
“Just don’t go, stay with me.”
“Till morning?”
“Till morning.”
