"I'm not going to start with your fancy party clothes."
They had a spirited but enjoyable argument about which item of clothing to make the first attempt on. A silly argument, because despite how he had phrased it, Grace could not directly help, what with the ammonia atmosphere on Rocky's side of the Hail Mary. Incompatible environmental requirements. Probably Rocky's clothes wouldn't burn spectacularly in the oxygen atmosphere, but that didn't mean it would do them any good.
Arguing without seriousness passed the time. Considering Rocky's genius engineer approach to problems, how to do laundry (Eridian and Earth style) might be solved several times over in the years to come as they travelled together.

If Grace was the one doing laundry in untested machinery (and his turn would come, so he might as well start thinking about it) he would pick a middling item to be the first one in. Not fancy clothes but definitely not a worn-in, comfortable favourite that might not survive rough handling. Privately, he named Rocky's choice for this the okay Eridian sweater.
Rocky insisted on calling his first try a test run, matching the words with a running in place stomp of his five feet. Rocky liked solid, obvious idioms.
"Shrunk in the wash" might be a new phrase to share.
