"Come on, boss," Kirishima urges. "Look—this one looks like a cat!" He points at the deluxe 3-D box on Kazuhiko's phone screen—pink with fluffy white cat ears and a gold ribbon.
Kazuhiko looks at it dubiously. "I just…tap on it?"
"Yeah," Kirishima says encouragingly, and after another moment of carefully observing the box, Kazuhiko pokes cautiously at his phone screen with his index finger.
The box pops open with an array of effects. Catchy music blares and confetti falls around it in streams.
"It's…a crown?" Kazhiko asks.
"Ooh, that one's hard to get," Kirishima says. Blue sapphires, shaped like hearts, shimmer against the gold and silver. He'd feel jealous if he didn't feel so proud. Kazuhiko's first pull, and it's a winner. "Here—you can put it on like this."
Reaching over the boss's shoulder, Kirishima swipes back to Kazuhiko's profile page, selects the crown from his digital closet, and watches in satisfaction as the little grey cat on the screen rotates to show off its new accessory.
"I see," Kazuhiko says, sounding not very much like he sees at all. It's so adorable that Kirishima has to let out a little sigh of contentment. "And…Yaeka likes this game?"
"Loves it," Kirishima confirms. "It's all she wants to talk about lately. Open a few more—if you get duplicates, you can trade them with her."
"Is that so?" Kazuhiko asks, a gleam coming into his eyes. "In that case, how do I acquire more boxes?"
I've created a monster, Kirishima realizes fondly a few moments later as Kazuhiko taps gleefully at his screen.
"Look, Kirishima," Kazuhiko says. "A second green gown. Do you think Yaeka will like this one?"
Probably Kirishima should go out and blackmail another family or something—they're going to need the money if this keeps up.
Maybe in a few minutes, he tells himself. He wants to see if Kazuhiko gets another crown. Yaeka will go nuts.
And hey, if he gets a third one—Kirishima could always use one himself.
