Chapter Text
06:30 was the time Parrot had woken up.
Parrot never struggled on getting out of bed. Despite telling himself he’s more of a night owl, it was never hard for him to wake up so early in the morning. The avian always thought that maybe his body was just really, really powerful. He never really considered the fact that he wakes up at that exact time for the past 7 years.
After Parrot’s eyes opened, his body moved seemingly on his own, the same morning repeated over and over again. He’d walk down into the shared house’s small kitchen, his hand instinctively moving towards the kettle to boil some water while his eyes were fixed on the cabinets above him. Taking a small tea bag from said compartment, he’d let out one final yawn before his day officially started.
“Spoke! Wake up, it’s almost 7!” Parrot would shout out, hearing rummaging from the ceiling above him almost immediately. For some reason, despite all these years they’ve been living together, Spoke was never able to wake up via his own alarm. He always, always, had to be woken up directly using one of his brother’s voices – and most of the time, it was Parrot’s.
Parrot knew he didn’t have to worry about Wemmbu or Flame about this sort of stuff since they have their own morning routine, often going down to eat breakfast and immediately dashing off to school afterwards. Spoke, on the other hand, was a… different topic. The voidling would often do everything the moment he wakes up first thing in the morning, telling his older siblings that he was ‘speedrunning’ all the activities he does once his eyes open – which includes brushing his teeth. This was something that always annoyed Flame specifically, because who the hell brushes their teeth before eating breakfast? Either way, Spoke would never fail to be the first one to leave the house and head to school, despite Parrot receiving a bunch of complaints on how he often arrives late to class.
Regardless of Spoke’s shenanigans, Parrot would quickly whip out a pan and some bread, carefully toasting them over low heat. Pouring the hot water from earlier into his cup, he’d carefully mix it amongst the tea bag, giving it a small sip as its warmth enters his body. The avian hummed, satisfied with how his non-sweetened tea tasted. That was, of course, right before Spoke ran down the stairs.
As the voidling enters the kitchen, Parrot notices Spoke’s usual characteristic when it comes to the Spoke’s own looks. Despite his hair being a mess more times than it should be, the usual bandana he always wore was already tied on his head, his bangs slipping out to make a clean, disheveled look. A black hoodie was worn on his thankfully neat uniform, his tie being the only thing that made Parrot frown just a little. The black bag Spoke always used was draped lazily over his shoulders, the keychains visibly dangling just by how much the boy moved. Just like usual, Spoke’s pure white, bright eyes were already beaming with energy.
“Morning, Parrot!” Spoke would happily greet his older brother, putting his bag on one of the dining table’s chairs. He then walked up to Parrot, who was already looking at him up-and-down, giving the taller avian a smile.
“Your tie isn’t tied correctly, bro,” Parrot would sigh, his hands patiently fixing Spoke’s tie. “How many times have we had this conversation? You’re already in high school, you should know how to do this by now.”
Spoke’s grin faltered just slightly before giving out a seemingly stubborn huff, not resisting Parrot’s touch in the slightest.
“Well, it’s not my fault it takes a thousand years for it to be put on ‘properly’!” the voidling complained, giggling under his breath. “There’s no faster way to do it!”
“There is, bro, you just don’t want to be patient,” Parrot scolded lightly, giving one final sigh once the tie was fixed. “Just help me with breakfast, okay? Do you want some strawberries on your toast today, or…?”
“Why wouldn’t I? I already chopped some yesterday night!” Oh, so that’s why Parrot heard someone in the kitchen at 2am. “Flame and Wemmbu probably want their usual too, right?”
“Mhm,” Parrot nodded, giving Spoke the hint to help prepare their breakfasts. Each of the siblings had their own preferences when it comes to the toppings of their toast. Spoke’s toast would often be invaded with nutella, strawberries placed on top to make it ‘healthier.’ Wemmbu’s toast would usually consist of cream cheese and avocado, preferring a slightly savory option. Flame’s toast, surprisingly, would often be the classic peanut butter and jelly combo. Parrot’s toast, on the other hand, was always seen with only honey poured on top of it. And yet, despite their differences, all the ingredients would always be present in the kitchen – mostly because they have the same exact breakfast more than half of the time.
Once everyone’s toast was ready, Parrot and Spoke set up the table, the voidling rambling on how a trick he was learning on the skateboard was tricky. Parrot obviously didn’t understand a word he was saying, but nodded nonetheless. The calm atmosphere, though, would be quickly broken by two certain people walking down the stairs, already bickering like always.
“Bro, I already told you why having PE in the last period is superior!” Flame huffed, his voice clearly irritated. “Literally nothing else can beat it, bro. You just don’t wanna accept that.”
“Well I'm sorry, Unstable High’s Immortal Demon, but I’m not looking for a fight every 3 seconds!” Wemmbu groaned, his face already showing a frown. “It’s just tiring, bro. Why would you want to go home tired?”
“I– bro, first of all, that name is more auraful than anything you could ever think of. Second of all, I’m not even– bro, you literally also–”
“Guys, let’s eat breakfast first, okay?” Parrot would interrupt, letting out his – what, 3rd? – sigh this morning. Wemmbu and Flame almost immediately went quiet, grumbling a few last words before going to the table to eat their toast.
Parrot lifted his head, eyeing both Wemmbu’s and Flame’s appearances. Wemmbu’s long, purple hair was already tied up into a neat ponytail, wearing the school’s unbuttoned blazer over his usual uniform. Thankfully, nothing was crumpled one bit, and the tie was done fairly well. Flame, on the other hand, already had his usual blindfold on his hide, covering his red eyes. His hair was already styled into dreadlocks, with nothing over his school uniform – well, except for some black, fire-themed arm warmers.
With a sudden movement, Spoke stood up in his chair, with his toast already completely devoured. There was a bit of nutella left near his lips, but before Parrot could mention it, Spoke had already opened his mouth.
“Mm! That’s some good breakfast!” He’d grin, putting his schoolbag on his shoulders again. “I’mma head off now! Bye, guys!”
Before the other three siblings could even say a single word, the boy was already off, the front door shutting close as fast as it was opened. Everyone in the room blinked – well, Flame probably was under his blindfold.
“Wonder what part of the city he’s going to check out this time,” Wemmbu muttered under his breath, his tone a bit smug. “Maybe he’ll find even more cats.”
“I don’t even know how he keeps track of all their names, bro,” Flame replied, taking a bite of his own toast. “It’s lowkey crazy.”
Parrot stayed quiet as the other two somehow managed to engage in a relatively calm conversation, silently pondering on how impressive it really is for Spoke to remember so many things at once. Hell, he was the only person in this household to get straight As, but when it comes to the periodic table? He’s pretty sure Spoke hasn’t even learned half of it, but somehow has the entire thing memorized ‘for fun’!
Well, there were a lot of unique things his siblings did ‘for fun.’ Both Wemmbu and Flame received a scholarship to get into Unstable High, much like Parrot himself, but for their athletic skills. Parrot was always amazed on how his siblings are so good at something even though they were never trained professionally, like Wemmbu’s volleyball skills and Flame’s basketball knacks. The avian wished he could’ve provided them more than just simple play when they were little, and he always felt like–
“Thanks for the breakfast, Parrot,” Flame would abruptly interrupt Parrot’s daydreaming, his face visibly softening despite a smile not quite being there. “Me and Wemmbu are off to school now. Don’t tire yourself out today.”
“Yeah, bro. Don’t think we don’t know about your all nighters,” Wemmbu playfully squinted his eyes before laughing, walking out the door alongside Flame. Parrot simply gave them a small smile.
“Have fun at school, guys,” he’d wave as the two siblings walked out, closing the door behind them. The house was quiet now, and every plate on the table was now empty – except his, of course. Though, just as he was about to finish breakfast, a notification could be heard from his phone.
