“So, have you noticed how high Hinata’s jumps have been getting? His and Kageyama’s quicks are getting better everyday.” Takeda said as he sat down on the bench in the spot next to Coach Ukai, he made no effort to turn his head away from the guys practicing.
“Yeah, it’s amazing how fast they improve. The first time I saw them do their quick, I was insanely surprised. You have to admit, doing a move like that but not even looking at the ball just putting basically all your trust in the other person looks insanely cool or insanely stupid the first time you see it.” Ukai responded, his face turning away from the match and to Takeda who was now sitting on his left side.
Takeda chuckled, finally turning his head toward Ukai with a grin.
“It is pretty cool the first time you see it, honestly-“ Takeda says softly before being cut off by a ringing noise
*RING RING*
“Is that your phone?” Coach Ukai asked a couple of seconds after hearing the ringing noise coming from Takeda’s pocket.
“Yeah sorry. I usually don’t get any calls during this time because people know not to call me when I’m at work so I don’t usually turn it off incase of emergencies..” Takeda said as he slid the phone out of his pocket
“Ah sorry, it’s my mom. I’ll be right back.” Takeda continued looking at the screen. He got up from the bench before walking towards the supply closet. Ukai gave a quick thumbs up to the man walking off before turning his head back to the practice.

SUPPLY CLOSET
“Hello? Yes, Hi mom.. you know I’m working right now right?”
“I know I know, but I just had to know if your coming to the annual family dinner? It’s just around the corner you know? You can’t miss it! You know, your sister is bringing her husband! Actually, speaking of that, have you found yourself a good woman?… or man.?” Mrs. Takeda ranted before stopping.
Takeda sighed after the long rant, forgetting how much his mother loved to talk, how excited she could get about things, and how she always had some feeling he was gay?! (He never was sure where she got that idea from.)
“Of course mom… I’ll definitely be at the dinner. But I…” he stopped himself. He knew how much his mother cared for him and had been sad to see him about to be in his 30’s already with no partner.
“You..? Oh please tell me you finally found a good partner, Takeda!! It would make me so happy!” The woman on the phone exclaimed.
Takeda thought for a moment. If he lied, he could probably get away with it and just not bring anyone to dinner.. but he would feel pretty guilty. Still he wanted his mother to be happy.
“Yeah.. I found a great partner! Not sure if I could bring him to dinner, though..”
“YES, YES, YES I KNEW IT!!” The excited woman on the phone screamed. She quickly let out a dismissive cough before going back to her regular tone. “Excuse my excitement—— I’m just so happy for you! I really would’ve loved to see him at dinner. Am I able to speak to him at least?” His mother asked.
“Uh.. I’m not sure.. he’s a bit busy..” Takeda said while rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
“Oh.. well it wouldve been so nice to meet him especially if he isn’t coming to the dinner..”
Takeda thought for a moment. He wanted his mother to be happy, but who would even—
Alright. He had an idea, but a certain coach was not going to be happy about it.

Takeda quickly slid the doors to the supply closet open before jogging back to the bench where coach Ukai could still be spotted watching everyone practice.
“Ukai, Ukai!!” Takeda exclaimed while jogging over to the bench, he seemed to be out of breath from running as quickly as he could to Coach Ukai.
“What’s wrong, Takeda? Is there a problem?”
“Oka-Okay so.. you’re not gonna like this, but-but I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend.” Takeda said breathily tripping over his words.
“What the hell are you talking about!?” Ukai yelled. This earned them both a couple of eyes toward their direction from the sudden noise. Takeda quickly waved his hands dismissing them and signaling them to go back to what they were doing.
“Listen.. I’ll explain after, just talk to my mom for me please!!! I’ll get you Konnyaku dumplings!!” Takeda quickly pleaded.
“Alright, alright. Just give me the phone.” Ukai said with a quick sigh as he held his hand out for the phone.
“Thank you, thank you!!” Takeda said thankfully as he pressed the unmute button and slid the phone into coach Ukai’s hand.
“Hello, is this Mrs. Takeda?” Ukai said calmly with a blank expression, only he wasn’t calm. He was actually extremely nervous but still tried to keep a calm tone.
“Hello? Yes! I am! Are you my little Takeda’s boyfriend?”
“Ye-“ Ukai tried to say, but was quickly cut off by the talkative woman.
“I’ve heard so little about you! Actually I’m not even sure of your name— what is it again?”
“It’s.. Ukai..Keishin Uk-“
“Ukai is such a wonderful name!! You already sound like such a sweethea-“
Ukai took the phone away from his ear and put it in his lap while giving Takeda a face of confusion with a mix of annoyance. Takeda whispered a quick “sorry! Just agree and move on, she’s always like this” before Ukai put the phone back up to his ear.
“So are you coming to our annual dinner? It would just make me so happy!” Takeda’s mom asked, Ukai could hear the grin in her voice.
“Yeah sure, I’ll be there.” Ukai agreed mindlessly. Takeda’s eyes slowly widened as he just realized what Ukai and his mom were taking about.
“That’s wonderful I can’t wait to see you there!” Mrs. Takeda exclaimed, the grin in her voice growing bigger by the second.
“UKAI.”
“Yeah?”
“Did you just agree to go to dinner. With my family. On thanksgiving. As my boyfriend.”
“…”
“Oh. my. god. WHY ???!” Takeda yelled now putting his hands on both of Ukai’s shoulders and shaking him back and forth.
“YOU TOLD ME TO JUST AGREE!!” Ukai yelled dizzily.
“Ughh..!” Takeda groaned before letting go of coach Ukai, leaving him dizzy. He then sat down next coach Ukai and put his head in his both his hands.
“It’s going to be fine.” Ukai said as he patted Takeda’s back. “I show up, eat, talk to your family, and leave. Simple!” Ukai reassured him.
“I hope it’s that easy.” Takeda said taking his head out of his hands and lifting his head up to look at coach Ukai.
“What’s their problem?” Hinata said referring to Takeda and Coach Ukai after landing from a successful practice quick.
“Focus, Hinata.” Kageyama said, picking up another ball to toss to Hinata.
“Whatever bakageyama. I’m telling you something is going on over there.”
“You guys fight like toddlers.” Tsukishima cuts in with a chuckle.
“Shut up!” Hinata and kageyama said, their voices combining due to them talking at the same time.
