Shattered Envy

Summary:

What do Shinigami, Jujutsu Sorcerers, and Wild Cards have in common? All of them use their souls in some way in order to fight monsters birthed from negative emotion. Now what would happen if someone with a shattered soul were to appear? How would they react? And how would the rest of the world, in tandem be affected? The answer is crazier then you’d expect.

Chapter 1: “Rain”

Notes:

…I might’ve gone a little overboard with the tags. I just have way too many ideas for this AU lol.

Chapter Text

Shadowy hands grabbed Subaru, and he didn’t know how to react.

It was supposed to be a normal mission, but when you’re Subaru Natsuki, things always go awry. Especially, when you decide to conquer a watchtower. It was a long shot too. He did eventually heal Rem, and freed Regulus’s wives, but it came at a cost. His own self, to be specific.

Someone was yelling at him.

Probably Julius. The purple-haired knight was trying to grab onto him, but it was to no avail.

Subaru pushed Julius away from those strange hands, and they grabbed the isekai protagonist’s legs. The ghostly hands felt warm, like Satella was right there with him.

It took him a second to register who those hands belonged to, but it was definitely her…

They pulled him down into a shadowy abyss, but before he was submerged into it, he used invisible providence in order to grab onto a nearby ledge.

Something weird happened with it though.

Instead of the usual ghastly hands that appeared when he used it, he found himself in a crystal suit of armor that shattered as soon as it appeared.

He fell down into the abyss, and felt useless.

When he came to, he was somewhere else. It was loud, bright, and very, very wet.

Where am I? Our hero wondered.

He dusted off his clothing, which consisted of an orange scarf—reminiscent of his tracksuit, black and green traveller’s garb, and brown boots.

Subaru was wearing an outfit better suited for travelling due to the trip to the Watchtower.

The outfit in question consisted of an orange scarf that matched the color featured on his track suit, black trousers tucked into lighter brown boots with black lacing, a black shirt that matched the shade of his trousers, a light brown buttoned blazer worn atop the shirt that ensured that only the shirt's collar was visible, a brown belt matching the shade of the boots, and an open green jacket.

He decided to sit down in order to acclimate into the new area.

It looked like an alleyway, seemingly in a city of some sort. But something felt off. Like it had a smaller population than you’d expect.

The rain was slowly falling, and he was starting to get cold. As he sat there, on the bench, he wondered what had happened.

Satella’s hands…The strange crystal armor…however I ended up here…what does it all mean?

The city had bright neon lights, and had large buildings—no, large skyscrapers. Was he back on Earth?

Maybe. But why now, of all times?

As he pondered this, a strange creature was patrolling the area, out of Subaru’s eyesight.

It looked like a large cockroach, with black and gold coloring. It had multiple large eyes, and one larger eye was in the middle of its face.

Its claws were hairy, and it had 7 of them. The creature slowly started to stalk Subaru, as he was collecting himself.

The cockroach crawled on the ledge of a nearby rooftop, looking down at him. The 18-year old isekai protagonist didn’t even notice it yet.

It slowly slinkered down the roof, approaching him slowly from behind. He barely even noticed it before the monster lunged at him.

He dodged as much he could, rolling away from the attack.

He grabbed a lead pipe that was just lying on the ground for some reason and swung it at the cockroach monster’s eye. It flinched back in pain, but that wasn’t enough to kill it.

As it geared up for another attack, something happened.

More specifically, someone yelled “BERNARD! GARU!” and an extremely strong gust of wind blew it away.

A couple of metres away, floated a fox-like humanoid figure.

It looked like an anthropomorphic cartoon animal, with a green tunic straight out of The Legend of Zelda.

Actually, now that Subaru thought about it more, it really did look a lot like Link, the game’s titular protagonist.

Right behind Bernard, stood another person.

Wait, Bernard was somehow phasing through that guy instead of being in front of the other dude.

The person…wielding (?) Bernard was a teenager, or at least a younger college student.

Possibly 18 or 19. He wore a dark green shirt, which was under an unbuttoned denim jacket. He also wore light black pants, and green slip-on shoes with a white accent to them.

The guy was an ordinary and weak-looking, plain faced young man with slightly messy chestnut-brown hair and green eyes.

The monster cockroach (He really needed a better name for this) tried to swipe at our hero again, but before it could do that, the other guy shouted something.

“STEAL!”

A purple orb flew away from the black and gold cockroach and it somehow dissolved.

He rubbed his eyes again, because he had no idea what the hell just happened.

As he did that, the brown-haired guy walked up to him and asked the conqueror of the pleiades watchtower something.

“...What the hell are you doing in Shinjuku, Subaru?” His long-lost cousin, Kazuma Satou asked.

“I-I don’t-what?” Subaru stuttered.

“You heard me the first time, Subaru. Or do I need to send you to a therapist?” Kazuma complained.

The boy in question could do nothing but hug Kazuma after that.

It was still raining.

Yuji Itadori was on the run.

After Gojo-Sensei faked his death and disappeared, the Junior Jujutsu Sorcerer had no one else to turn to.

He was currently sitting on a large staircase when his friend Choso approached him.

Choso was a half-human, half-cursed spirit who had a flesh and blood body that was fully visible even to non-sorcerers.

His appearance was predominantly that of a human man with long dark brown stringy hair tied into two high ponytails that jutted upward and outward.

Choso also had small dark brown eyes with slightly thin eyebrows and a blood mark that extended from both sides of his face across the bridge of his nose.

Yuji on the other hand, was a young man of average height and appears to have a slender build when wearing baggy clothing, but actually has a lean and muscular physique.

He also had relatively large light brown eyes and spiky pink hair that had been styled in an undercut fashion, by one of his best friends–Nobara Kugisaki.

“Are your injuries recovered?” Choso asked.

“I’m fine…because of him. I can tell that Sukuna’s growing stronger by the minute.”

“Good. I’m going to collect the remains of Shoso and the others. You don’t have to worry about me. I’ll be fine by myself.”

“You should return to Jujutsu High. It’s not safe for you out here,” Choso continued.

“I can’t. Sukuna has something planned for Megumi, and I myself have killed too many people. You killed your younger brothers as well,” Yuji responded.

“It was a misunderstanding. Forgiveness isn’t involved when it comes to brothers, Yuji,” Choso calmly responded.

“Let’s go now, the curses are here,” Choso finished.

“Alright. I’m ready,” Yuji confidently said while getting up from where he was sitting.

Together, the two walked out of the building with renewed vigor, ready to face whatever comes their way.
