Chapter Text

It wasn't supposed to end this way. Coughing up blood, gasping for air in the vast empty desert. Alone.

In the end I wasn’t a god, I was nothing but a bag of flesh and bones that bruised and broke.
I somehow always knew deep down it would end like this. I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon, not like this. Not like this.

My clone leered over me. I could just barely make out his expression of disgust and hatred through the blinding light searing above us. I caught enough of a glimpse to see how uncannily the same we looked. It left a sour taste and a pit in my stomach. I looked at him with a paralyzing fear.

“Please…” I gasped out. There was no response from him

I tried to drag myself through the sand and shakily reached for my sword that had been thrown across from me. He stomped down on my wrist before I could grab the handle. I yelped out in pain.

He kicked me hard in my side. A singular heavy cough escaped my lungs. I writhed in pain and clutched my ribs harder, squirming into a ball of pain.

I turned over and attempted to get away by pulling myself through the sand, but I could barely get enough of a grip of it to pull myself far.

He laughed wickedly and pierced his sword straight through my back, I gasped sharply. He twisted it further and further into my skin until it made the sickening sound of my bones crunching.

His blade was only stopped when it fully reached all the way through my chest and the tip of the blade hit the ground. White hot pain seared through my entire body. He stepped on my back and pulled the sword swiftly right out of my back. My vision blurred from the pain.

I rolled onto my back.

My breathing was heavy and panicked and I clenched my chest to try and stop the warm, sticky stream of blood running down my side. No matter how hard I gripped, I wasn't able to stop it from pooling around me and seeping into the sandy floor. There were more gashes with blood dripping down me than I had hands.
I could hear nothing but the racing pounding of my heart and the achingly loud bugs droning on.

Everything started to fade away so quickly as he walked away from me leaving me to bleed out, the sound of his shoes gently crunching on the ground echoing through my head. Getting quieter and quieter the further he went. Eventually dissipating into nothing.

The last thing I could think of was Katie and Nacho. Their names escaped my mouth in a last desperate struggle to hold on. Then nothing mattered anymore, everything just went away. There was no love, no fear, nothing.

I couldn’t do anything but embrace it. I blinked and my vision almost blurred to a complete nothingness, my breathing slowed down and I looked into the sky above me. I could only think of how beautiful it was, and how vast space was and how little everything really meant. The stars twinkled and danced above me, swirling into a collection of  light and color.

As I opened my eyes my vision  refocused into a mix of dark night blues blending into the muddy orange of the ending of the setting sun. The stars shone brighter and more beautiful than I had ever seen them. Fireflies flashed all around my vision.
My head pounded and swirled, I was confused and disoriented, like I had just woken up from a terrible dream I couldn’t remember.

I looked around to orient myself, I was in a small clearing surrounded by tall, swaying dark emerald colored grass.
The grass brushed against me as it danced and flowed in a warm gust of wind, I dug my fingers into the ground and felt the dirt beneath my finger nails, something I usually hated. However this time it made me feel grounded.
I heard Nacho and Quackity laughing somewhere a distance away from me and the soothing symphony of insects.

I didn’t feel cold anymore, I didn't feel the usual tiredness that was always heavy in my eyes, I didn't feel the panic and fear that always encompassed me; I only felt the warmth of a summer night sinking into my skin.

I turned my head to the side and saw Katie looking deeply at me, her hair was draped all around her face and sprawled out beautifully on the grass around her, it seemed like nacho had braided flowers into her hair. She flicked her ears curiously at me. I felt tears dripping down my face, I wasn’t sure why. She asked if everything was alright and truthfully I didn’t know. I told her it felt like I woke up from a terrible dream.
I clenched my chest and it panged like a memory of a wound I had once felt and closed my eyes tightly. I felt her as she gently wiped the tears from my face and grabbed it gently. I opened my eyes to see her lovingly looking at me.
I enjoyed the feel of her soft hands against my skin, for once I didn’t shy away from her touch or feel uncomfortable. I felt safe and comforted by her. I wanted it to stay like this forever.

I laid there enjoying the soft grass and warmth on my skin. Katie eventually ended up joining Nacho and Quackity. I watched them intently. Katie lifted nacho into the air and spun him around as he giggled and cheered. The only thing I cared about anymore was them. The only reason I wanted to become a god anymore was to protect them. I would have exploded the entire world for them if it really came to it.

Nacho ran over and excitedly held out his hands to show me a firefly he had caught. It flickered its light in his hands a few times and eventually flew up, swirling away into the sky as we watched. They all took a seat next to me, Katie wrapped her tail around Nacho and I, and we all just talked about things, everything, anything, whatever came up.
I shut my eyes, taking in the sounds of their laughter, of the night chorus, of the feeling of me brushing my hands through nachos’ hair as he had his head in my lap, of Katie's chest expanding and deflating as she breathed, her head resting against my shoulder. I didn’t feel alone anymore.

I never thought anyone could ever love me until along came you. The last thing I saw was her face, and how bright she was when she smiled, how she lit up every room.

In the end there was nothing. It wasn’t extravagant or large or painful. It was a peaceful empty drift into nothing. There was no bright light like the way they described in movies. Katie was my bright light, and she wasn’t there. All it was was an array of darkness and just peace, and nothing. No sounds, no thoughts, no feelings. It was cold and then warm, and then it wasn't.
