Chapter Text
July 2026
Hannah Wells knew when she started this tour back in March that it would be a huge undertaking. The Girl That I Am tour was the culmination of nearly 20 years of work. She had spent months preparing her body with rigorous daily treadmill runs, singing through her discography before she even officially went into rehearsals with her team. This is what she had worked for her whole life; she was built for performing. Exhaustion had become like a friend to her – she thrived off of it, and it made her work harder to block it out. This recent bout of exhaustion was throwing her for a loop, and she had never been more grateful for 6 straight days off.
Her brain and body have been going nonstop. She started this tour in a long-term relationship with a man she thought she would marry. Devon seemed like the perfect man; he was an actor, quiet, unassuming, and he didn't feel intimidated by her fame – or so she thought. She doesn't know exactly when their relationship fractured, but it had been long before they officially called it off. Going from a long-term relationship to a month-long rebound with her regrettably long-term situationship Justin fucking Kohl probably wasn't her smartest pivot ever. So now, she’s 4 months into the biggest tour of her life and finally able to take a breath.
Sitting poolside sipping piña coladas with Allie, Dex, Stella, Katie, Tracy, and Lisa is exactly what she needed. Her friends met up with her at her Rhode Island beach home to celebrate the Fourth of July in typical Wells fashion – BBQs, pool games, alcohol, and fireworks all weekend. There was a strict ban on any talk of Hannah's love life. That was saved for late in the evening when she crawled up next to Allie on the hammock and cried into her best friend's chest. According to Allie, the moody alternative frontman aesthetic only works when you’re a 20-year-old playing in dive bars, not for a 30-something-year-old man who has toured all over the world. She never was Justin’s biggest fan – neither were her parents, for that matter; she’s not sure what she was thinking. Now she felt foolish; she hadn’t heard from him in weeks after what felt like a whirlwind romance.
“Maybe this is what needed to happen, Han-Han,” Allie sighed, pulling Hannah closer to her. “You got it out of your system for good, and now you can move on. Think of this weekend as a total detox, and you’ll be like a brand new person when your break is over!”
She knew deep down that Allie was right – she’s right most of the time – and she knew this weekend would need to be the end of it until it came down to pouring all of the bullshit into music. She hoisted herself up from the hammock, tugging Allie along with her to grab a nightcap to take up to bed. She was asleep before her head hit her pillow, succumbing to the exhaustion.

Garrett Graham walked through the halls of TD Garden like he owned the place – and sometimes it felt like he did. Tonight, the halls were filled with people of all ages, mainly young women, dressed from head to toe in sparkles and glitter, with arms decked out in friendship bracelets. He had even been the recipient of a few from some young fans who liked both Hannah Wells and the Boston Bruins. Up ahead of him walked Tucker, his wife Sabrina, and their daughter Jamie, who was a huge Hannah Wells fan and, as far as she was concerned, he was the BEST. UNCLE. EVER. They made their way into the private suite, where Dean, Logan, and Grace were already waiting. They’d turned tonight into a real family affair, apparently. He had offhandedly mentioned to the Bruins front office when talking about the concert that he’d love to try and meet Hannah, but apparently, she doesn’t meet anyone before her shows. Bummer, but he gets it.
As the lights went down, Hannah Wells came out on that stage, and everything clicked. The way the ice felt like home to him, it was clear just as a bystander that the stage was undoubtedly where Hannah Wells felt at home. She commanded the stage – her voice, her moves, just the way she hit a stance was captivating; she was born for this shit. He was enchanted by her, standing up the entire time, dancing with Jamie and singing along like he knew the lyrics. He could see Grace and Sabrina recording them, but he didn’t care; he took Tucker’s hand and made him dance too. The entire suite turned into a dance party at one point, the beats and lyrics infectious, the performance remarkable.
When the night came to a close, nearly three hours later, Jamie wasn’t the only one who was exhausted. Garrett doesn’t know how Hannah has the energy to do what she does, and hockey takes a lot of energy, but what she did out there was unbelievable. It was inspiring, seeing someone who is a master at their craft perform so efficiently and beautifully. He and Logan would definitely be discussing this during their next episode of Hockey Kings.

He hadn’t meant to make it a whole thing, but his mouth and Logan’s smirk got the better of him. They both were talking about attending the Hannah Wells concert; he went into the friendship bracelets he was given. They talked about Hannah’s star power, the energy and pure command that she had of the stage and the crowd. He did not intend to talk about wanting to meet Hannah Wells before the show. First of all, being shot down was just a wee bit embarrassing, but then John turned his smirk full force his way into the camera, and he just started yapping.
“You know, I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings. I get it. So, I was a little butthurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her…”
“You made her a bracelet?”
“I received a bunch of friendship bracelets, but I wanted to give Hannah Wells one with my number on it.” He said, unable to help the grin that graced his face.
“Your number as in 44 or your phone number?” Logan asked, playing dumb.
“You know which one.” He said, with Logan letting out a cackle at the cadence of his voice. “She doesn't meet anybody, or at least, she didn't want to meet me, so I took it personal.”
So really, he didn’t mean to make it a thing. It was supposed to be a fun anecdote about their time at the show and relating Hannah’s work ethic to how hockey teams should be moving together. As long as the Wells fans reacted kindly, it should be fine.
July 28th, 2026
“Han, you can’t ignore this,” Allie said, barging into her hotel room. Hannah laid in bed staring at her phone, the same podcast clip on repeat. Garrett Graham, she won’t pretend she’d heard of him before this – she doesn’t follow hockey at all. There was something about the way he spoke, his grin, his eyes shining – there was nothing performative about it; he seemed genuinely happy just talking about his experience at her show.
“I’m not ignoring it,” she sighed, “I’m meditating on it.” Allie stared at her unflinchingly; she didn’t believe Hannah for a second.
“You’re ignoring it when you need to be figuring out who you need to call to climb that hot piece of hockey ass.”
“ALLIE.” Hannah laughed, scandalized by her best friend, but laughing all the same.
“Han-han, this is exactly the kind of grand romantic gesture that you’ve written about since you were 13. This is Say Anything if it was made in 2026. The ball’s in your court, babe. Go for it!”
Hannah’s eyes shifted from her phone where the podcast clip was looping once again, to her open laptop where a drafted email to her publicist Mary Jane was sitting. If anyone knew how to get in contact with Garrett Graham, it would be Mary Jane. She could just text her, but something about that felt vulnerable; an email was clinical, less personal. Leaving no more time to ruminate, she grabbed the laptop, brought her fingers to the touchpad to bring it to life, reread her email, and clicked send.
Early August 2026
To say Garrett was surprised when someone from Hannah Wells’ team reached out would be an understatement. Hannah Wells wanted to meet him – apparently she found the podcast clip (the incredibly viral podcast clip) charming. Hannah had a residency at Madison Square Garden for 6 nights at the beginning of August. Bruins training camp was scheduled to start mid-August. They set a plan to meet up in New York as Hannah had a 2-week break before jetting off to Mexico City.
Three days later, Garrett found himself in the back of an exclusive members-only supper club in NYC. His hair was freshly done, the facial hair he grows every season just starting out; he was dressed to impress. He couldn’t lie that he was a bit nervous, but he was going to be himself and let it go. As he approached the table, he couldn't help but let out a chuckle when Hannah’s eyes widened as she looked up at his size. Her hair was pulled back out of her face, her cheeks rosy, and wearing a baby blue dress. She looked absolutely beautiful; it almost knocked him on his ass.
He sat across from her, eyes shining, and the first words out of her mouth caused him to bark out a laugh.
“Just warning you, I know nothing about hockey. I googled hockey 101 on the way here, and it was like reading a different language.”
“That’s okay, I couldn’t read music for the life of me.” He said sincerely, letting his eyes linger on hers. “I guess I’ll just have to teach you, if you’ll let me.”
Hannah smiled widely, “I’d like that.”
August 29, 2026
Hannah and Garrett had been seeing each other for a few weeks now. Well, seeing each other meant a few dates during their 2-week span in New York and then phone calls and FaceTime from there. Hannah couldn’t remember the last time she spent so much time laughing on the phone. Garrett’s happiness was infectious; his voice was pure joy every time they spoke. She knew that right now, Garrett was recording another podcast episode with Logan, but he wouldn’t stop texting her silly history memes. He was funny, smarter than she anticipated, and handsome as well. The way he held her made her melt; his favorite thing to do was holding her chin as he kissed her. This was supposed to be something fun but was quickly becoming something more.
Garrett laughed at Hannah’s response to one of the memes he sent as Logan did an ad read from one of their sponsors. He quickly shifted back into podcast mode when Logan finished up – he could be professional when it called for it.
“So, Graham, what have you been up to leading up to training camp?” Logan asked, smiling.
“I think I was down in New York… you know, wearing a hat and glasses in New York is a pretty unclockable disguise for a guy like me.”
“Oh, yeah? I see you’re starting to rock the ‘stache again. Have you found out what Hannah Wells thinks of your moustache?”
Garrett blushed and smiled, saying, “Um, yeah, we’re not going to bring up Hannah Wells... but something tells me she’s gonna like it.”
September 29, 2026
They’re ready to go public – sorta. They’re not ready to let people know exactly when they started talking and hanging out, but the plan was for Hannah to go to a Bruins game. On the evening of September 29th, Hannah found herself back at TD Garden with Tracy, Stella, and Dex. Allie had a prior commitment in Los Angeles and couldn’t make it. She was escorted into a private suite – apparently the same suite that Garrett watched her from – and was met with multiple smiling faces. A curly-haired man introduced himself as John Tucker, “but everyone just calls me JT, Tuck or Tucker”. She had come to know Tucker as the dad of Garrett’s friend group, literally and figuratively, and the bouncing ball of energy with braids standing next to him had to be Jamie. She knelt so she was eye-to-eye with her and introduced herself.
“You must be the very special Jamie that Garrett is always talking about,” she said, keeping eye contact with the young girl. “I’m Hannah, it’s so nice to finally meet you.”
“OH. MY. GOD. I can’t believe this. Sorry Deanie, Uncle G has best uncle status forEVER.” She shrieked, her eyes wide and lips moving a mile a minute. Hannah laughed as she looked over to the aforementioned “Deanie” – a man with bright blonde hair and mischievous eyes – Garrett had warned her about his former college teammate/best friend/lawyer.
“Well, well, well,” he started, “If it isn’t the Bruins newest, biggest fan.”
“Hi Dean, Garrett has so many things to say about you.” She said, smirking. She could hear Tucker chuckle at that, and Dean smiled.
“Yeah, you’ll fit right in. Welcome. Tuck, introduce everyone; I’m gonna go get some food.”
Tucker led her and the girls around the room. She met his beautiful wife, Sabrina, also a lawyer, and Grace Logan, the wife of Garrett’s teammate and other best friend, John Logan. Everyone talked amongst themselves; she learned that all of them had been there for her concert with Garrett and had the time of their lives. They made their way over to the food and loaded up before moving to watch the start of the game. She could feel cameras and phones pointed towards her, but it wasn’t anything new. When she talked with Garrett about this, they had expected that it would be a big deal, but her goal was to focus on the game. The Bruins won the game 4-2 with Garrett making 2 goals and 1 assist. He was so fluid on the ice; his focus and drive were clear even from the private suite. She still didn’t quite know what the hell was happening on the ice, but she had a blast, and Garrett’s little crew made sure she didn’t fall behind.
September 29, 2026 – Later
Leaving together was also part of the plan, and those photos and videos hit the internet quicker than either of them could blink. They had expected noise, truly, but not like this. They made their way out of TD Garden, and Garrett drove them to a restaurant that he had rented out for the team. Apparently, the team is there a lot and it has become the unofficial Bruins restaurant. Surrounded by Garrett’s team and his friends, they ate, drank, and danced the night away.
“I know we planned this, but I still want to thank you for coming tonight,” Garrett whispered in her ear as they danced to yet another top 40 hit.
Hannah looked up at him and smiled, “No thanks necessary, I think I really like hockey now. Any idea where I can get a jersey?” Garrett threw his head back, his laugh loud and bright.
The after-party lasted until around 2:30 AM, and Garrett brought her back to his place, smiles gracing their faces as they fell asleep holding each other.
October–November, 2026
Between October and November, Hannah makes an appearance at multiple Bruins games. She’s not due back to tour until the second week of November when she’ll start the international leg of the Girl That I Am Tour. Right now, she’s splitting time between Boston (and Garrett) and NYC and the studio. The music she’s making feels like some of the best stuff she’s written in years; she feels fulfilled every time she steps out of the booth and sees the look on her producers' faces. There’s a ton of attention on their relationship right now, but Garrett is taking it in stride. He has even joked to her about being his good luck charm – he gave her a nickname too, because apparently hockey is all about nicknames: “Wellsy”. It’s cute; she’s having the time of her life at his games, supporting him and hanging out with his family. They had made a few appearances here and there, each of their publicists throwing the press some quotes as they tried to enjoy their time together.
She hadn't anticipated it happening as fast as it had, but Garrett is charming, inquisitive, respectful, handsome, and a joy to be around. Every time she's with him, she feels herself falling more in love with him by the second. When she sees him with fans at the games, when she sees him with Jamie and his family, when it's just the two of them in his condo in Boston, whispering into each other's mouths until the sun sets. It feels special, and new, and so breakable, but she wants it. For once, someone isn't forcing her to be smaller and less noticeable. Garrett has gotten to know her and everything that comes with being one of the most famous pop stars in the world. She asked him one night, while their legs were twisted up in his bed, what it would take for him to give up on them - insecurities from past relationships peeking through.
Garrett turned his head to her, making sure to keep eye contact, and very sincerely said, "Hannah, there's nothing that could be said or done to make me give this, you, up. My track record with relationships isn't great, but everything about us feels right. I love you, Wellsy."
Hannah sighed, unshed tears in her eyes. "I love you, too."

The NHL star is planning to visit Wells on the international leg of her Girl That I Am Tour, a source tells ET.
Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham’s romance is reaching new heights as the NHL star is planning to be by her side when she starts her international tour dates, scheduled to kick off in November.
A source tells ET the duo is fully committed to their relationship and the future.
“Garrett and Hannah are all in. The two are very into each other and are enjoying their time together but are also planning for the future. Hannah starts her international tour in November, and Garrett is planning to be there to spend time with her," the source says. "Garrett and Hannah are very serious about their careers, and the two bond over that and want to show support for each other whenever they can.”
In the midst of their whirlwind romance, Garrett is taking proactive measures to safeguard his privacy. ET has learned Garrett recently purchased a new home, something he has been wanting to do for a long time. His current house was easily accessible to the public, which is no longer feasible given the onslaught of attention he's received.
On this week's new episode of his Hockey Kings podcast with teammate John Logan, Garrett also addressed the viral videos of him helping Hannah from the car on a recent date night, admitting that he does feel "protective" of the singer when they're out together.
"I feel like whenever I'm on a date, I'm always having the sense that I'm a man in the situation," he shared. "I'm protective, yeah, for sure. You always have to have that feeling or self-awareness, I guess."
