Chapter Text
It was in the night when Mr Incredible rejected Buddy as his sidekick, whilst fighting Bomb Voyage. But he wanted to prove himself to Mr Incredible. “Just give me one chance. I’ll show you!” He would say, hoping that his words would convince him. “I’ll go get the police!” He would scurry away toward the broken window quickly, and Bomb Voyage attempted to put a bomb on Buddy’s cape but, fortunately for Buddy, he missed and Buddy was able to escape from the scene, using his handmade rocket shoes.
He was flying down from the building, when his rocket shoes started to malfunction as they were running out of fuel. Buddy had underestimated how much he would have to use the things. Buddy looked quite scared as he saw how high he was from the ground, as the shoes turned off completely. He screamed and fell from about 30 feet into a bush. He winced, as he tried to sit up, but felt nauseous and blacked out.
Two of the Phantasmics were in the area, Everseer and Macroburst, since Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl were getting married. Plasmabolt and Psycwave weren't there and were instead at the Phantasmics Headquarters, due to not being that acquainted with the two, whilst Everseer was and brought Macroburst as his plus one as his closest friend. Meanwhile, while Macroburst was flying between buildings, still quite a bit reckless as a new hero and liking the freedom of not being just a sidekick anymore, when they floated further, they noticed the passed out Buddy and stopped messing around, while looking around to see what could have caused this. “Uh… Everseer?” They called out, slightly worried. “I think some kid is hurt!”
Everseer was on guard for any injured civilians when he would spot the unconscious kid. “Yes, I see them.” He telepathically said to Macroburst. “I can tell the child isn’t dead. He is breathing and his brain is still active. But, go contact a hospital, he is still hurt badly.” After hearing that, Macroburst speeded off, looking for a phone booth to call for help, while Everseer watched over Buddy, waiting for an ambulance to arrive. Eventually, Buddy regains consciousness and attempts to stand up, though is very dizzy. Everseer would notice this and immediately step in. “Hey, hey! Don’t get up so soon.” He advises. “Are you injured?”
Buddy was confused for a moment before remembering what happened. He must have hit his head when he fell from that height. “Uh… My head hurts and I’m sore.” Buddy said. “But, other than that I’m fine.” Everseer was concerned for the kid and for good reason. “Can you tell me how this happened?” asked Everseer, who was trying to tell if the boy had a concussion. Buddy tried to find the words to describe it for a moment, before finally answering. “Well, I was flying with my rocket shoes that I made!” He explained, excited to mention his rocket shoes, which he had spent a lot of time and passion on. “But, then they stopped working and I fell here.”
Everseer listened to Buddy’s explanation thoroughly and he was quite surprised at the fact that Buddy supposedly made these “rocket shoes”. “Well, an ambulance should be on its way, so they will check if you have a concussion or something like that and inform your parents of what has happened.” He said. “And, you made those? You look like you aren’t even a teenager yet. That is incredibly impressive.” Buddy’s blue eyes widened with excitement, happy to hear that someone finally appreciates their craftsmanship. “I know! I made them myself!” He repeated. “It’s the best thing I’ve ever made so far and I’ve made a lot of things! Like I designed my own supersuit inspired by Mr. Incredible and some other things too!”
Everseer chuckled slightly, enjoying seeing this kid so happy talking about something he was so obviously very passionate about. He reminds him of young Macroburst in a way. “Seems like you are a fan of Mr. Incredible, correct?” Everseer said. Buddy’s eyes lightened up, before going slightly darker as he remembered what happened earlier. A conflicted expression washed upon his face. “Well yeah! I’m Incrediboy! But, he also said that I couldn’t be his sidekick and told me to go home, which was kind of mean.” Everseer could sense the conflict in Buddy’s mind and felt sympathy for the kid. Sure, he seems way too energetic but he’s just an ambitious child with big dreams. “Well, you have amazing potential, Incrediboy. If you are able to make something like those shoes when you are just a child, then just imagine what you could make when you are an adult.” He said, trying to cheer Buddy up. “I’m sure you’d be a great inventor one day.”
After hearing what Everseer had to say, Buddy got quite cheered up and another thought would pop into his head, which he immediately asked, without any hesitation. “Can I be your sidekick?!” He would ask. Though Everseer wasn’t surprised he asked this, due to his ability to read Buddy’s mind before he said it. “You would be great, but maybe when you are older, alright?” Everseer said, trying to not make Buddy too upset by the rejection. “You are just a bit too young to be a sidekick right now. It is a dangerous job.” Buddy got disappointed when he heard this, but he understood just a little more than he did with Mr. Incredible because of the actual explanation. Though, now, he has hope that when he’s older, he will be a sidekick. It was then when the ambulance had arrived and Buddy was taken to the hospital.
