when he fell

Summary:

so, Ish fell from the sky.

Notes:

hey y'all might recognize the concept of ish falling if you read the beginning of my other fic, but i'm putting that on hold for now. i thought it might be more fun to write oneshots and drabbles that may or may not be connected for a collection.

Work Text:

It was fuzzy, but Ish was certain he had something to do with it. The leaders he'd been watching just moments ago were staring down at him in shock. Or maybe it was just in his general direction? No, definitely directly at his limp body. He saw their confused stares and still wondered why they were so shocked to see him. Not that they had invoked his name or whatever but even passively they could summon him. It's impossible to ignore those who call completely. Had he fully manifested?

Someone stuck a hand out toward him. Schpood---persoanlly Ish's second favorite due to his chaotic nature. Ish lifted his arm and expected to miss Schpood's hand and crack a joke about how he was intangible and above all of them but that didn't happen. Their hands connected and Schpood's strong grip hoisted Ish's dead weight off the ground like it was nothing.

Ish yelped, startling everyone in the room. "How did you..?"

"That's what we were saying," someone shouted.

"What in the name of-"

"Don't." Ish cried. "Don't call any of them. They don't need to see me like this."

The world leaders stayed gathered around Ish murmuring amongst themselves. He flopped back on the ground and glanced at those around him. Schpood. Cass. Legacy. There were plenty more, but names were trivial in the grand scheme of things. To him it felt like the countries rose and fell, like waves in the ocean.

They used to anyway. Being stuck in a human body comes with the very human perception of time.

"Uh, hey," A white haired fella, trotted through the open door and spoke as he walked into the room. "Flux, Cynikka, and all the Covenant just like disappeared apparently."

Ah, so that's what he'd done.

Saparata rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "So I guess this means no war..?"

"Damn." Schpood said, "I need a drink." He waved for his fellow congressmen to follow with 5yder close behind.

The other leaders followed Schpood out, knowing that it was about lunch time anyway. That just left Ish and Saparata relatively alone in the giant meeting room. Ish sat up to get a better look at his handiwork. He didn't want to get too close, but it hurt to stay so far when Ish had been out of reach for the greater part of Saparata's life.

Look at him! All grown up and making his own choices and almost getting himself killed and almost leaving Ish completely alone-

"So," Saparata started, but then paused.

Ish wished that he could still tap into thoughts. His god powers were, admittedly, a crutch. How else was he meant to keep from boredom when his family didn't want him around?

Ish's stomach growled and as he went cover his embarrassment because gods never got hungry, he heard a grunt. He looked back over at Saparata to see that he was chuckling. That was enough to keep Ish from imploding from embarrassment, but now he had a new issue. Saparata's laugh was...

Saparata stepped over to Ish and held out his hand. He smiled with a lopsided grin, "I could eat."

-----

"I heard you fell from the sky."

Ish was a little busy stuffing his face with food, but he nodded enthusiastically. "I used to live up there."

"Up where?"

"In the sky." Ish gave Saparata a funny look, "You don't believe?"

"No? People don't just fall from the sky."

"You don't believe in higher beings?"

Saparata looked thoughtful, but then he shrugged with a dopey grin on his face. Ish had made him so well. "I don't not believe."

"Well. I used to live in the sky. Beyond the sky, really. Had a family and everything. Dunno how I got down here." It was a lie, but Saparata didn't need to know anything more than the fact that he was down here. End result was the same.

"Do you miss it?"

Ish almost choked at the sincerity directed at himself by Saparata of all people. How could anything be better than hanging out with his most prized possession?

"Hell no." Ish said, then corrected himself, "There's no hell by the way."

"Really?"

"Yeah. When you guys die, the others use you to make new people."

Saparata leaned back into his booth. "Wow..."

"I find it a bit morbid. It's like they don't even value the effort it takes to make one you!" Ish sighed and turned back to his creation, "But I know mortals find it rather comforting to be a part of a bigger picture."

He laughed, and Ish had to take a moment not to choke on his meal. "It's not all it's cracked up to be."

"You would know. The 'bigger picture' was practically given to you." Ish looked to the side, wondering how much he could reveal. "Although it wasn't supposed to be."

"Maybe it was?" Saparata said, curious now at the scenario before him. "I went off on my own, but even before then the bigger picture had found me."

They both knew he was talking about the one clad in royal purple lies, but Ish felt the need to break the heavy silence. "Fluxion. Biggest picture of the century."

He leaned on his hand and sighed tiredly. "Yeah."
