Work Text:

"Very different from looking after my animal friends," Fluttershy said, with a shy uncertainty. She leaned against Rarity's side. Much more than food and water and knowing to wake up sleepy friends come Winter Wrap Up.

"Yes. And different from watching over a younger sister." Rarity had some worries at the prospect too. "But we'll manage this, darling."

This was not yet visible. But they both knew, now. Despite their worries, they would make a family.

Fluttershy curved one wing, tickling under Rarity's eyes. Only then did Rarity notice that she had started crying, overwhelmed but happy tears dampening her love's feathers.

*

Rarity twisted and turned in front of the angled set of mirrors. Above her, Fluttershy hovered, the downdraft of her wings ruffling Rarity's back like the gentlest of breezes brought indoors.

"Not from this angle either. Maybe in another few days," Fluttershy said. She dropped down, catching Rarity in a heartfelt embrace.

*

Rarity had her legs neatly tucked under her. The brightness of magic extending out from her horn cast a shadow under her greatly curved sides.

"This is a sedentary activity," Rarity said, with a slight edge of frustration not quite concealed. Fluttershy had taken to fussing somewhat, as Rarity's pregnancy so visibly advanced.

The vanilla and bergamot scent steaming up from the cup Fluttershy was bringing her was lovely, though. Fluttershy put the tea in exactly the best place, where the shortest past from tray to Rarity wasn't over the fabric she was working with.

The needle, hovering from Rarity's magic, swooped down and then through the ribbons. White and purple, sunshine yellow, and a pink that exactly matched Fluttershy's mane and tail. All their colours, with a ribbon for the foal colours not yet seen, a silvery shimmer of possibility.

"I'll teach you a way of gathering silk that looks like feathers," Rarity said. "We can edge the bassinet with that."

"You'll teach them magic, and I'll teach them to fly."
