Chapter 1: The Beginning

Summary:

Wanheda awakens again. But this time with the knowledge of what's to come

Notes:

Hey, so this is my first ever fanfic so this might not be the best chapter regarding the format on how I wrote this chapter as English is not my first language so there might be some errors through the fic and I might come back around again and edit this if something does look very wrong.

But other than that I hope you enjoy the chapter and I would appreciate the feedback if anyone has any on how to improve the fic further :>

anyway enjoy x

P.S
Listened only to Adele while writing this chapter so I'm not sure if it influenced a few things within this first chapter :>

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

As Clarke raced towards the bunker to find shelter from the rushing radiation cloud that was ready to envelope her whole with the hope of the radiation seeping into her bones she could only hope that her friends would be safe up in space. She hopes that one day the grounders and skaikru will be able to leave the bunker under polis once the radiation dissipates and that Bellamy, Raven, Murphy, Monty and the others will be able to come back down again when they deem it to be safe enough for them to return.

But, Clarke knows that there is a high possibility that she won’t be coming out of this alive like all the other times she had a close encounter with death itself. Which is ironic due to her reputation as Wanheda but she doesn’t believe the implications of that title or even enjoys having many of the grounders refer to her as Wanheda.

As the entrance to the bunker came closer with each rushing step she took she could only hope that she could make it in time but the radiation cloud was nipping at her feet as she ran. So there isn’t much time left for her to possibly outrun the cloud of radiation. But as she set foot in the entrance to her only shelter for miles the radiation cloud had caught up with her and all she felt was excruciating pain as it burned her from the inside out.

All she could do was gasp for air as she felt her skin well up in hideous boils and burns before the skin started to peel off her body from within the suit which didn’t give much of protection from the pain that she would be feeling in this moment. As she starts to cough up her black blood she can only think that she will finally be free, from all responsibility that her people expected from her and the pain from all of the sacrifices that she made in her short time on earth when she finally perishes from the poison that is melting her body from within.

As she takes her final pained breaths from her perishing body she can only think that she will finally reunite with Lexa again after her death and the short time she spent with her in the City of Light. She can finally be with the person that she loves again…

But that would be the farthest thing that would happen to our champion… Wanheda for a long time to come. She won’t have a feeling of peace until her duty is fulfilled.

—-----------------------

As she came to what she registered first would be a quiet rumbling noise that reverberated through her body which sluggishly awakened. Then under the rumbling she could hear voices… But that can’t be possible as at first she was meant to be dead with her body rotting away in the bunker but here she is hearing voices… Had she survived? Is she hallucinating as she is dying?

But then she opened her eyes, and the sight that welcomed her… well… let’s just say that it shocked her as she was looking at the metal walls of the dropship with all of the kids talking to each other or yelling, asking questions on what was going on. It felt surreal, this wasn’t meant to be happening. She was meant to be dead.

She was meant to be dead.
She was meant to be dead?!
SHE WAS MEANT TO BE DEAD!!!!

“Clarke?”

She whipped her head to the side to gaze at a pair of eyes she never thought she would see again. To the boy she never apologised to for blowing up in his face over something he didn’t even do.

“W-Wells? What-”

“Wait Clarke, before you say anything the reason I am here is because I found out what my father was doing so I didn’t want you to go down to the ground without a familiar face. I know that you don’t forgive me but-” As Wells rushed this out to a bewildered Clarke, the only words that came to her was that It wasn’t your fault. It never was but never had the strength to say this out loud at the moment. She won’t fail him this time around if this really is a second chance that was given to her by some force.

“Wells… Stop. I know it wasn’t you there is no need to defend her anymore. It isn’t your fault that my Dad died. It never was so please… stop apologising."

“Wait, you knew? For how long?”

Clarke smirked.

“For a while now as it never made sense for it to have been you Wells. Being stuck in solidarity for over a year changes you, strange isn’t it? But Wells I forgive you… for all that it is worth. Friends?” She held out her hand for her friend so they could shake hands or just to hold, as she let the warmth from her friend seep into her frozen bones.

“Best friends Clarke.”

And to think that she thought she would never see that smile again made her smile even bigger until the TV stuttered to life with the face of Thelonious Jaha appearing on the screen. That monster… she’ll never let him lay hands on any of her friends again after the stunt that he pulled for the City of Light but this time she will be ready for what’s to come.

While Jaha’s speech is drawn on in the background she spots a few familiar faces within the children that were seated with her level of the dropship and to think that she didn’t realize this in the beginning was appalling but at least this she can see that Finn…

Finn.

Red hot anger arose within Clarke when she saw him trying to wriggle out of the restraints but, she also felt sadness and anguish as she looked at him, his innocence was still present at this time where didn’t go and slaughtered innocent grounders in her name and so this time she will not let him get close at all. But he never deserved to die like he did and so she would try, with everyone, to save as many as she could from everyone or even themselves.

So with this in mind she turned her attention to Finn and the two boys that are following his lead of escaping the restraints.

“HEY!! If you want to live then you better keep yourselves strapped in your seat unless you have a death with.”

In Finn fashion he throws his signature grin towards Clarke.

“Calm down princess, nothing bad will happen just let us have fun for a bit.”

“Well, we’ll enter the stratosphere any second now and when that does happen you and your followers will get ragdolled around where there would be a high chance you’ll snap your neck. Since your girlfriend is an engineer Spacewalker you should know what happens so you better get back in your seats now.”

With a face of confusion he straps himself back in his seat with his followers closely behind with faces of horror on what would’ve happened to them.

But Clarke can see clearly what would’ve happened where their necks were snapped so violently that still makes her feel ill even till now. That is something that will forever be engraved in your brain.

When Jaha’s miserable speech ended the violent jerk of the dropship brought her out of her thoughts and she sought out Wells hand for comfort as it never gets easier even though she knows they’ll be fine but it is still nerve wracking.

At least this time she saved those two boys before they met their demise, now they’ll finally be able to see the ground and the wonders that it can offer to some extent before they discover the grounders.

With the death grip she had on Wells' hand the dropship came down crashing to Earth and that jolt was felt with everyone in that dropship the humming and rumbling stopped.

“Hey can you hear that? No machinery humming.” Said the voice of the boy that she failed once before… Jasper. Him and Monty are situated along the back panel of the dropship. With the dropship falling into quietness where everyone realized that it once was quiet… deathly quiet. And then everyone started to unbuckle themselves to get down to the lower level of the dropship with Clarke following suit, freeing herself along with helping Wells and others that were struggling when she noticed Charlotte.

One of youngest delinquent in the dropship, and with this Clarke realized that she never mourned the child that she grew close with with the nights they spent talking to each other even though she blamed her for a short while after Wells death she came to understand that she was haunted beyond anyone's comprehension and so this drove her to do something that was dreadful.

With that in mind she ushered Wells a bit behind so he wouldn’t crowd the child.

“Hey… are you feeling alright? Does it hurt anywhere?” As she helped Charlotte out of the restraints the only response she got was a nod of her head. So Clarke could only smile at her.

“Ok, good. Come on, let’s join everyone, yeah?” Clarke held out her hand for Charlotte to grasp and to her surprise she did, and she answered in a whispered voice.

“Okay…”

And so her little group reunited with everyone else at the lower level of the ship with the Blake siblings embracing each other with a crushing hug. So they opened the door with no objections which came to her surprise.

Then Octavia exclaimed in a whisper of a memory.

“WE’RE BACK BITCHES!!”

With the delinquents rushing out after her screaming and running around on the ground outside of the ship, she led her little group outside by letting go of Charlotte's hand and urging her to enjoy the freedom that was given to her in a sick way from the council and she smiled. God her smile… portrayed with such innocence that broke Clarke's heart even more as she watched her rush and join the others with enjoying their freedom that many of them didn’t think that they’ll ever get till their 18th. But there is still a lot more that Clarke needs to do before anything else which would be acquiring food and water for the delinquents and Bellamy.
