Work Text:
“Hey,” Rico gently nudged Julien who had fallen silent during their movie night, “everything ok?”
Normally the other man would be commenting throughout the entire film. It didn’t matter on genre or if he was genuinely enjoying it or not. Julien almost always had a running commentary.
“Oh yes, I’m perfectly wonderful as always,” Julien started his over-the-top claim until Rico fixed him with a flat look. “Alright you got me, no need to get pushy about it. I guess I’m just homesick.”
“Tell me about it,” Rico asked, and Julien launched into a wild story about one of the many times his uncle tried to get him killed so he could keep the throne. From there the movie was completely forgotten as Julien continued to talk about Madagascar.
Rico vaguely remembered the area where Julien lived and the brief scuffle with the Foosa that had occurred before they made their way to the continent of Africa. It was still nice to hear about Madagascar from Julien’s point of view, and he adored the vivid details.
The more that Julien talked about Madagascar the more Rico started thinking about his own childhood and adolescence before being immigrated to America. Of course, the last few years before then hadn’t exactly been great, but it made him long for a life that was gone.
“Rico? Are you ignoring your beloved prince?”
“Sorry, just...” Rico trailed off before finding the words, “a little homesick myself.”
“Tell me about your home, it was Chile, right?” Julien draped himself over Rico, the country’s name awkward on his tongue as he tries to say how he’d heard Rico say it.
