Sonic 1: a Novelization

Summary:

The story of the hit video game Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) is here; printed (published? I don't know the right word.) as a novel. This work adapts both the Master System and Genesis/Mega Drive versions combined into one story. Credit to Sega and Sonic Team for the game.

Notes:

I'm pretty new to storytelling so all criticism is welcome. I wanted to focus on the story of this game, because the game itself couldn't. Chapters will come out relatively quickly. More notes at the end.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: First Encounters

Chapter Text

Sonic the Hedgehog was a cool blue guy who embodied the traits of the rushing wind. He respected freedom and the laws of nature. Sonic was a nomad of sorts, never staying in one place too long and sleeping wherever he felt like; trees, rooves, etc. Dr. Ivo Robotnik was a work focused scientist who embodied the unrestrained progression of science. He was willing the compromise the freedoms of others and blatantly disrespect the laws of nature to get what he wanted. Robotnik built many lavish bases and cities to show the whole world his brilliance. What would happen when those men met. Their ideals conflicted in almost every way. Well luckily, we won't have to wait too long to find out. Sonic was running through the lush fields of South Island, home to the legendary Chaos Emeralds (more on them later), when all of a sudden, a group of robots appeared. They grabbed all of the flickies (local wildlife) and ran off with them. Sonic raced to find out where they were going. What he found, or rather who he found was Dr. Robotnik. The robots, who he later found out were called badniks, placed the flickies inside of a capsule. The capsule was round, with little stubby circle shaped legs, it had a cylindrical button on the top, presumably for quickly releasing all of the flickies at once. Sonic curled into a ball and bashed himself into the doctor's hover craft, a machine known as the Egg Mobile."Ohhohoho, what have we here", the doctor said. "A blue rodent trying to take my power sources, you better leave before I make mincemeat out of you." Sonic went to reach for the capsule, but Robotnik moved the Egg Mobile and the attached capsule just of of reach. "I have no time to play with you rodent," said Robotnik before he sped off. Sonic pursued the doctor to the next area.
