Family?

Summary:

Don't leave, Kara. Please.

"I... I am an android." Alice's voice trembled.

She waited for Kara to get mad.
To shout.
To scream.
Like Todd always did.

...But she didn't.

Notes:

Welp. I tried my best.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Kara was washing the dishes in the kitchen while Luther was carefully fixing the kitchen door.

The door had fallen off.

The humans who had lived here didn't bother to fix it before moving out. As a result, the house was exceptionally CHEAP.

The family was just glad to finally have a roof over their heads. Here, they could finally be safe—something that had been impossible back in Detroit.

He set his tools on the ground and admired his handiwork. It wasn't perfect, but it would do for now. By then, Kara had finished cleaning the dishes, dried her hands on a towel, and joined him with a wide smile.

"Thank you, Luther. Now we can tape Alice's drawing to the door."

Her eyes were shining with amusement.

Luther found himself smiling in return.

"Don't humans usually use a fridge for that?"

"...We don't have one," she said, sounding slightly disappointed.

"We'll get one." Luther decided.

Just then, a tiny voice asked from the doorway.

"Kara?"

Alice watched Kara and Luther from the door.

Luther fixed the door, but Alice really hadn't minded the broken door either.

The home was lovely, and very colorful. Kara had taken her shopping for toys and all sorts of other things to decorate the house with.

The only thing that—

Alice's breath hitched.

The only thing that really worried her—

Did Kara even know that Alice wasn't human?

Would Kara still love her if she found out?

Alice wanted Kara to love her. To be read her bedtime stories. To be protected.

To have a family.

...But families don't lie to each other.

"Kara?" she said quietly.

As if on cue, the two androids immediately turned to Alice.

"Yes, Alice?" Kara smiled warmly at her.

Alice felt like she wanted to run away ans hide. But she didn't.

families don't lie to each other.

"...There is... there is something I need to tell you."

Alice looked away.

Kara knelt down next to Alice, her eyes shining with worry. Meanwhile Luther took a few steps toward them before stopping. He stayed back, watching with quiet concern.

"...Are you okay? Did someone hurt you at school? Should I talk to the teachers? Should–" Kara's voice shook, but she tried to smile regardless.

"Do we need to transfer schools?" Luther crossed his arms.

If the two adult androids still had their LEDs, they'd be red.

"No." Alice shook her head. "It's not about the school."

Kara and Luther exhaled in relief.

"Alright. I'm all ears."

Kara smiled. Her voice remained even.

Too even.

"I–"

Why was it so hard to say it out loud?

Alice felt tears building up in her eyes.

...It was too much.

Alice rushed over to hug Kara. Kara returned the hug immediately.

"Alice..." Kara said softly.

Don't leave, Kara. Please.

"I... I am an android." Alice's voice trembled.

She waited for Kara to get mad.

To shout.

To scream.

 Like Todd always did.

...But she didn't.

"I know, honey. I know." Kara whispered.

...Wait.

What?

Alice widened her eyes, and turned to look at the older android in shock.

"Wh–How–"

Kara hugged her tighter.

"...I... It's not important. I don't care whether you're human or android. You are my daughter, Alice."

Luther carefully sat down next to them.

"We will protect you no matter what."

"Really?"

Alice asked.

"Yes."

Kara promised and kissed Alice's forehead.

Alice smiled through her tears and hugged them both.

Luther blinked in surprise.

Then he smiled too.

The hug eventually came to an end as Kara slowly stood up.

"I'll make us some lunch—how about we go and buy some magnets afterwards, Alice? So we can hang your drawings on the fridge." Kara smiled.

Luther grabbed his coat. "And I'll go get a fridge."

Alice giggled.

Living their new life wouldn't be easy—but whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. As a family. 💪

Notes:

I honestly think canon Alice knew that Kara knew that Alice is not human. (Lol)
... What do you think?

Anyway, Thank you for reading it! ✨️✨️
