Lights up.
The curtains rise on a girl playing piano, stage right. Center stage, another girl walks paces down a humble set. The sign says "Main Street," and the building facades are storefronts and restaurants. A cardboard sun hangs low over the stage.
The curtain falls again and rises, this time on a broad highway. A '57 Chevrolet roars down the road, past the noon sun.
Then, the next scene. This time, the girl walks through a diorama of the Gary Works. Smoke machines spark to life and cover the rafters with false smog, blocking the sun.
The smog clears as the curtain falls, and the final scene is at night. The girl walks along the Dunes as the girl at the piano changes key. The night is clear, the sand is soft, and the waters are calm. It is picture-book beautiful. Too beautiful.
The curtain falls once more, and the audience is left to applaud, if they so wish.
