Work Text:
-Six and One enjoyed traveling space together, and they'd seen most of the solar system by now. But, as much as they loved traveling, they loved their home planet just the same.
Today, One had -Six over in Algebralia at the Equation Playground's centre.
They swung on the swings for a long time because -Six liked swinging and played in the sand for only a little bit because -Six didn't really like sand.
Eventually, they ended up on the grass next to each other, watching the clouds.
"That cloud looks like a plane." -Six pointed at the sky.
"It does, now that I think about it," One replied. "That one looks like one of those little alien guys."
"They were a friendly bunch."
"Mhm."
One sat up and looked over at her partner, who was still staring at the clouds. "Babe?"
"Yeah?" They sat up with her.
"Um.." One's heart thudded in her chest. Was it the right time? They were alone, relaxed, -Six was happy, it was perfect. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure. What's up?"
"Uh-" She was cut off when someone else came into the centre.
Four and X.
-Six smiled and got up immediately to greet them. One grimaced.
"Hey, guys!" -Six said.
"Hi!" X hugged them. "It's been forever. How have you been?"
"I've been great! You?" They asked as they pulled away.
"I'm doing good, thank you."
"That's good."
"Four, come here." X reached back and grabbed his boyfriend's hand, who was lingering behind for whatever reason.
"Hey-!"
"-Six's here," X stated.
"I know-"
"So greet them!"
Four sighed. "...Hi, -Six..."
"Hi, Four." They smiled.
One had hesitantly made her way to her partners side by now, and was now just standing there awkwardly, but neither Four or X even spared her a glance. Typical.
"Well, it was nice seeing you two again!" -Six waved as they began walking off.
"It was nice seeing you again, too!" X responded.
One and -Six walked away from them, -Six still beaming from the interaction.
"I missed those two, well... Mostly X, but still. God, we haven't been home in forever! We need to stay here more."
"...Whatever you want, sweetheart." One tried to force a smile.
"Are you ok, babe?"
"I'm fine!"
"Are you su-"
"Yes, yes, I'm sure. I'm fine! Don't worry about me!"
-Six didn't fully believe it, but they let it go for the time being.
"Hey, we should go say hi to Fifteen!" They suggested enthusiastically.
"Sure." Fifteen was the only number (besides -Six, of course) that ever gave One the time of day, and her partner seemed to have latched on to Fifteen as a parental figure, so she was never too hesitant to see her.
"Yay!" -Six merrily skipped in the direction of Fifteen's cabin, eager to see her.
They knocked on the door, only to be met with the expected: "GO AWAY!!!"
"Fifteeeeeennnnnn..." They whined. "It's me!!!"
After a lot of clicks from the other side of the door, it opened!
-Six smiled widely. "Hi, Fifteen!"
"Hey, kid. Long time, no see, huh?" She smiled.
They hugged her. "I missed you!"
"Yeah, kid, uh, missed ya too." She awkwardly pat -Six's head.
-Six stepped back. "Can we come in?"
"We?" Fifteen looked around them. "Ah, you. Heya."
"Hi," One responded.
"Yeah, guys, come on in." Fifteen stepped to the side.
-Six beamed and skipped inside, dragging their girlfriend along with them.
Once inside, -Six immediately started ransacking the pantry and left One alone with Fifteen in the foyer.
One awkwardly shuffled her feet, she didn't feel totally welcome here. Fifteen was her partner's friend, not hers.
"So. One," Fifteen started. "You takin' care of 'em?"
"What?- Oh. Yes. I-i am."
"Good."
".............Fifteen?"
"Sup?"
"Do you think..." One paused to look at their partner, who was now elegantly shoveling Goldfish into their mouth. "..think they'll say yes?"
"Yes? Yes to what?" Fifteen cocked an eyebrow.
"To me asking if... If they'd marry me.." One muttered.
"Holy shit, dude. You're planning on doin' it?"
"I-i am- I mean, I was- but if you don't think I should-"
"Bitch." Fifteen put her hands on One's shoulders. "One hundred fucking percent."
"What if-"
"They'll say yes, trust me."
"Then... When should I do it?"
"Whenever feels right. Just, don't do it at McDonald's, kay?"
One cracked a smile. "No McDonald's, noted."
"What're you guys talkin' about?" -Six appeared out of nowhere with a bag of Goldfish in their arms and a mouthful of it.
"Nothing!" One's face turned red.
That narrowed their eyes. "You're lying. You don't have a good poker face, babe."
"I-.. uh.. I was just asking her if I should uhhh... Do something. With you! And uh what I should do."
"Oh. Then what are we doing?"
"...How does a picnic sound?"
"Oo, sure! I'll get ready then! :)"
"Ok, honey." One smiled as -Six ran off.
Fifteen gave her a wink and pat her on the back for assurance.
-
The couple arrived at their favorite date spot, right next to the nearby lake.
One set up the blanket and the basket, then let -Six lay down. Pretty much immediately, they reached for the food and started munching away.
"Do you like the sandwiches?" One asked as she sat next to them.
"Yeah."
"That's good." She watched them eat.
After they finished their sandwich, -Six decided to lay across One's lap, much to her surprise, though it was never unwelcome.
"Hi, darling. Comfy?"
"Mhm.." They closed their eyes.
One smiled and stroked their head with her magic hand. She loved having moments like this with them. It made her feel loved and noticed, something she'd never experienced until they'd started dating.
One bit her lip nervously, working up the nerve to ask.
"Babe?" -Six cracked open an eye. "You ok?"
"Huh- What- yea- yup! I'm fine- I just- um-" She stuttered. Her face turned red.
"You just, what?" They raised an eyebrow.
"I just..." She took a deep breath. "I want to ask you something."
"Oh. Ok. Ask away."
After a moment's hesitation, she asked, "...will you marry me?"
"Yeah, sure-" their eyes snapped open and they sat up, the words finally registering in their mind. "-What?"
Her confidence wavered. "Will you marry me...?" She winced, as if expecting a negative response.
The question rendered -Six speechless. One wanted to marry them? And the way she reacted when she had to repeat herself... It was like she expected a no. They'd be insane to say no!
"YES!" They launched themselves into One, hugging her. "YES, I WILL MARRY YOU!!!!!!"
"You... Will?"
"Yes, of course, idiot! Oh my algebra, yes!" They held her face in their hands with a huge smile on their face.
One gave a laugh of disbelief. "Oh my stars... You really said yes..."
"Why wouldn't I?? I love you, silly!" -Six squealed. "Come'ere!" They peppered her face with kisses.
One giggled. "I love you too, so much."
