Kate paced around Torreli's house, unable to sleep. A lot of the gang were there because Torri had managed to attach her entire domain to T-905 and thus had made it inaccessible to her siblings. It was quite the impressive feat as archonic domains were quite a bit more complicated than any of the dimensional stuff.
The nice thing about her realm was that Torri could very easily create anything she wanted in there. To show off these abilities, she'd created an obstacle course for them. It was quite a bit more difficult than your average obstacle course, but none of it was truly lethal. You could get beat up a fair amount though. They had also decided to do it without powers, just to spice it up a bit and challenge themselves more.
Sterling, the saint that he is, had suggested they all take an afternoon nap to be ready since they'd all had missions that morning. Everyone had enthusiastically agreed and gone off to rest.
Kate however, couldn't sleep. Usually what she liked to do when this happened was walk the perimeter of the building, but when Sterling had found her doing that, he got this really sad look on his face and had asked her to please come back to bed. Kate didn't want to do that to him again, so now she always just checked the windows and pretended she was just enjoying the night sky. It wasn't entirely untrue, she did like the night sky. Who didn't?
Tonight it seemed that Kate was not the only one who couldn't fall asleep. She found Torreli standing in the living room. Well, she found Torri's body anyway. Her consciousness was obviously somewhere else at the moment. It then seemed as though Torri's consciousness settled back into her body.
“Can't sleep?” Kate asked once she was back. Torri turned to her, surprised.
“No, I don't sleep. Ever. I'm not even sure if I physically can,” Torri explained.
“Really, have you tried it?” Kate asked, tilting her head.
“Once, when I first moved in here, but it didn't work.” Torri elaborated.
“So, what do you do when we sleep over? Do you just watch us in our sleep?” Kate demanded suspiciously.
“I watch over you to make sure nothing hurts you while you sleep, so you can all sleep peacefully through the night.” Torreli reframed.
“Oh, that's actually kinda sweet. I do something similar with Sterling when I have a nightmare or something. Sometimes when I can't sleep I watch for threats out the windows,” Kate admitted. Torreli smirked,
“I was just watching through Hunter's eyes as he circles the town.”
“Oh that's smart! I like to make my rounds too, or I did, but Sterling doesn't like when I do. I think it worries him,” Kate looked away.
“I'm sorry. I can understand that though.” Torri replied sympathetically.
“You can?” Kate inquired.
“Yeah, I know that you watch to make sure they're safe, same as me, but maybe he thinks you're doing it to protect yourself. I for one would be mortified if any of you felt unsafe here, and I think he would be too.” Torri rationalized. Kate covered her mouth,
“Oh my gosh, you're probably right. I do feel safe here, I promise! I need to talk to him!” She turned to do just that, but Torreli stopped her,
“I agree with you. Right now though, Sterling is probably asleep. He probably wouldn't mind I'd you woke him up to tell you this, but I figured I'd remind you.”
“You're right,” Kate sighed, stopping in her tracks,
“I really want to tell him, but I don't want to wake him up, or interrupt his bro time with Heath.”
“... Hey Kate?” Torri smirked after a minute.
“Yeah?” Kate looked up at her curiously.
“Do you want to scout the perimeter? Make sure we're safe?” Torri suggested coyly.
“Yeah,” Kate realized, a grin spreading across her face,
“I do.”
