Work Text:
Can you believe the last time we were here, we weren’t even together? And we were different people,” Lucy marvels as she and Tim get off the plane in Vegas.
“We were just pretending Luce,” Tim reminds her. “Besides, if we hadn’t gone undercover as Jake and Sava, who knows how long it would have taken you to admit that you were in love with me,” he jests.
Lucy huffs out a laugh of pure disbelief and turns to smack his shoulder. “Excuse you.”
Tim braces and tries to dodge the hit but fails. “I believe it was you who asked me out.”
He chuckles lightly. “Um, who was the one who kissed me in the airplane bathroom even though there was literally no reason to?”
She opens her mouth to protest but thinks better of it because he’s actually got her there.
He watches her and can’t resist pushing just a little bit more. “Oh, oh, what now you have nothing to say babe?”
“You’re a jerk,” she grumbled, but it was all in good fun. “Remind me again why I love you?”
Tim stopped walking and grabbed her by the hand, pulling her back and turning her around. He plants his lips on hers and kisses her soundly right there in the middle of the airport. Unbothered by the droves of people walking by and staring. A small whimper escapes her and Tim pulls away, a self-assured grin spreading across his face. “Because I do things like that.”
Lucy’s cheeks turned a hundred shades of red. She ducked her head and subtly looked to see if anyone was watching them. “Right,” she coughed and turned to keep walking. Tim followed her feeling a little smug.
They take an Uber to their hotel. It’s still relatively early so they unpack a little and then decide to find somewhere to have a late lunch. They walk about a half mile down from where they were staying and find a cute little bistro that allows them to sit outside.
“Remember when we were in the casino,” Lucy recalls. “And that chick approached you ready to give “Jake” a piece of her mind?”
Tim is sipping on his water and he chuckles a little at the memory. “And then someone swooped in and took her down by her hair. Told her to back off.”
Lucy gave him a look that said she was not playing then and she would most definitely not be playing if it happened now. “Damn straight.”
“It was hot,” he admits. “I like when you’re jealous.”
“I was not jealous,” she defends. “I was just worried she was going to draw too much attention to us and the op was going to be blown. Plus she called me a skank.”
“Yeah that was uncalled for,” Tim concedes.
“I wonder how many other people that Jake pissed off are walking around Vegas? The question was rhetorical but Tim looked at Lucy with wide eyes, suddenly on alert.
She couldn’t help but giggle at his reaction. “Babe, relax. You don’t look anything like him right now. No tattoos and your hair isn’t slicked back with a pound of gel.” Tim considered what she was saying and he supposes she’s right. “Plus, you know how to fill out a pair of jeans, unlike Jake.
He raises her eyebrows at her. She’s now ogling her fiancé and when Tim sees their waitress coming he waves her down for the check. They barely make it into the hotel room before clothes are flying everywhere.
They spend the rest of the night in bed. Ordering dessert from room service and giving repeat performances. After several invigorating rounds, both fully sated they fall asleep rather easily.
Tim wakes first because he wouldn’t be Tim Bradford if he wasn’t up at five like a rooster. Even on vacation. He sneaks down to the hotel gym to get a quick workout in. They were planning on hiking Mt. Charleston today so he didn’t need to do much cardio, but he wanted to work in some strength training. He looks at his phone and sees it's almost seven. Lucy should be waking up soon and she’d want to join him in the shower. He orders room service to be delivered. Coffee and a light breakfast. When he enters the room, Lucy’s not in bed but he hears the sink water running in the bathroom.
“Morning,” she yawns, taking in her fiancé’s sweaty form.
“Morning baby,” he leans forward to plant a chaste kiss on her lips. “Breakfast and coffee should be here soon.”
“Thank you,” she smiles up at him, climbing back into bed.
“Do you want to shower before or after we eat?” He asks, discarding his shirt and sitting on the edge of the bed to unlace his shoes.
“Coffee, shower, breakfast.”
“Sounds good.” There’s a knock at the door, and Lucy gets up to answer it, thanking the attendant and handing her a ten dollar bill.
Lucy takes a deep breath, breathing in the mouthwatering smells. She goes for her coffee first and groans when she takes the first sip. Tim ordered it just the way she likes it. She hands him his cup and then takes his hand and pulls him into the bathroom.
Their morning is spent exploring each other, eating their breakfast and before they know it they’re in the uber on the way to the mountain. They chat excitedly about doing something new together. They hike together all the time at home but they’ve never done it outside of LA.
The hike was beautiful and just challenging enough. When they reach the top, they admire the view below of nothing but desert. They unpack the small picnic lunch they’d brought and enjoy each other's company. On the way back down, they spot a couple who are holding hands and whispering to each other. The woman is a white shirt, the man in black. They look down at their joined hands and Tim and Lucy notice the wedding bands on their hands.
When they reach the bottom of the mountain and are waiting for the uber to pick them up, Lucy’s wheels are turning.
“You know,” she starts and Tim bends down to look at her. He’s holding her from behind, his chin resting on her head. “We’re here. In Vegas. We could… we could just elope.”
Tim stills for a minute and he knows that Lucy feels it because she untangles herself from his arms and turns to face him. She quirks her eyebrow in question as his expression. “No? If you don’t want to, that's fine. It was just a suggestion.”
“No it–it’s not that. I just– I mean are you sure?”
Lips bites her lip and contemplates for a minute. They have a whole family waiting for them back in LA. A family who would be devastated to know that they forwent a wedding and got married at some tacky chapel in Las Vegas. Genny. Tim’s mom. Angela. “Our family would be pretty disappointed,” she admits.
“They would. But Luce, this wedding is not about them. It’s about us. They’d get over it. I just want to make sure you’re sure. I don’t want to rob you of your special day.”
“Our special day,” she corrects.
“You know what I mean,” he rolls his eyes.
“I just really want to be married to you Tim. I don’t need the whole ta-da. We can still do the ceremony for appearance sake back home with everyone. And of course the reception. But just the two of us. Spur of the moment. I think I want that.”
Tim stares at her for a minute but doesn’t say anything. If he was being honest, eloping had crossed his mind more than once in the midst of wedding planning. Not that he wasn’t excited to marry Lucy and have their closest friends and family be a part of it. But between venues and cakes and caterers and all the other decisions they had to make, getting to just marry Lucy is all he wanted too.
“I’d marry you any time, any place Lucy Chen. But if you’re sure this is something you want to do, then I’m in. 110%.”
Lucy surges forward to kiss him. She was ecstatic. She was going to be a Bradford by the time they got back to Los Angeles and that thought alone made her giddy.
The Uber drives them back to the hotel where they make all the necessary arrangements with surprising ease. They had to wait until tomorrow but neither one minded. They holed up in their room and celebrated the fact that in less than twenty-four hours they would be husband and wife.
Lucy lays her head on Tim’s chest, breathing in his scent and smiling as his heart thumps beneath her cheek. He’s running his fingers through her hair and she’s the most content she’s been in a long time. Although that’s every day with Tim.
“Who would have thought,” he says suddenly, his voice gravelly. Lucy shifts and leans on her elbow to look at him. She searches his face and he’s gazing down at her lovingly. “All those years ago, when we were here for work as our dopplegangers, we'd end up back here. Eloping.
“I think it was inevitable,” she whispers.
“Yeah?”
“Not the eloping part,” she giggles. “But us. Since that first kiss in the apartment living room. I was pretty sure nobody was ever going to compare to you. And I was right. No matter what’s gone down between us, you’ve always been my person. My safe place. My heart. And I’m so excited to call you my husband.”
“Damn Luce,” his eyes getting misty.. “Save it for your vows.”
Lucy laughs and leans in to kiss him again before rolls them over so he’s hovering over her naked form. The wedding may be tomorrow. But the honeymoon starts tonight.
