Where do I even begin with this… huh. Now that I think about it, I don't really write things down. Like, ever. Oh well!
So there I was… No, no, no. This is garbage! Absolute crap! Dang it, I want this memoir to read awesomely. Wait… is "awesomely" even a word? Note to self: look up "awesomely" later. Or ask Mako. Actually, don't ask Mako, he'll just roll his eyes.
Okay, let's try this again.
Long ago, when the Fire Nation attacked… Okay, nope, scratch that. People already know all that history stuff by now! I mean, come on! Grand Matriarch Tanza is still alive and kicking to this day, for crying out loud. She's what, almost two hundred years old or something?! She's a walking history book!
Wait, I'm getting off track again. And this paper is not cheap! Okay, okay. Deep breaths, Bolin. Keep it short for this first page, and we'll save the epic poetry for when we can afford a nicer notebook.
Before me, Avatar Katara helped save the world from total disaster. She stopped that crazy Fire Nation civil war between Iroh and Ozai, and she defended New Oma from the invading forces of Ba Sing Se. Total legend.
And now, it's been sixteen years since she passed away. And while the world is peaceful… per se… I'm pretty sure I'm the next Avatar.
Actually, scratch that. I know I'm the next Avatar. Because I literally just accidentally firebended. Me! An earthbender! A flame just shot right out of my knuckles and singed the curtain! I haven't told Mako yet, mostly because he'd probably think I just dropped a hot coal and panicked, but… it happened. It really happened.
So yeah! Watch out, world… here comes… BOLIN!
…Is what I'd like to say. But what in the crapping earth am I supposed to do now?! I am a street kid. Avatars are supposed to have palaces, and guards, and fancy hats!
I suppose I should try to get an appointment with Matriarch Tanza. I'm sure she'd help, right? She's known at least two Avatars by now. She's gotta have some advice for a guy whose hands are suddenly shooting sparks.
