Chapter 1: Kiyoomi has a migraine

Chapter Text

Kiyoomi felt like the weight of the world rested in his head when he woke up. The sun was too bright, the light snores from his beloved Atsumu sounded like a chainsaw and the ceiling fan sounded like he was standing next to a helicopter. He groaned and threw the pillow over his face. He felt hot, like all the blood in his body was in his head and face. His world was also spinning violently. He feared he may throw up if he moved again.

So, it was one of those days huh, must be a flare up because of the summer heat. He also might have over worked himself the day before at practice. He knew he should’ve asked for a quick break when he felt the telltale twinge behind his eyes, but he needed to finish the run threw.

Damn it!  He was supposed to meet Motoya for coffee. This was the first time in months that their days off have lined up. Kiyoomi was actually looking forward to this, don’t tell his cousin tho. He groaned again. Another problem presented itself, he couldn’t really tell Motoya that he couldn’t make it. He feared looking at his phone would make him vomit, if the moving to get it didn’t. So, he knew that no matter how much it pained him to wake Atsumu up he had to.

He knows he shouldn’t feel bad, Atsumu has told him so many times that he didn’t mind it when he was like this. Osamu and their mom have a migraine disorder so he grew up knowing what to do and how to be there for Kiyoomi. Besides, he liked helping when he had migraines. Atsumu hated feeling useless and his loved ones being in pain that he couldn’t do much about made his skin itch so he liked doing something even if it was just little things.

But still Atsumu rarely slept longer them him. Kiyoomi was not a morning person. He typically slept in a little bit. Atsumu was the type to be up at 5 to start his day. Kiyoomi, typically crawled half dead out of bed about 8 at the latest, except during the off season, he was rolling out of bed at 10. Which in the grand scheme of most people was still morning but compared to his athletic lover and friends he was always the last up. Atsumu and Bokoto were up at 5 for runs, Hinata was up by 6 most days, and his cousin greeted the world at 4:30 am with a smile on his face, like a psycho in Kiyoomi’s mind.

He slowly rolled over, and his stomach lurched. He took a deep breath.

“Don’t throw up, don’t throw up” he mumbled to himself.  He peaked open one eye, just enough to see where Atsumu was in the bed.

If he wasn’t in such pain, he would have enjoyed the sight in front of him. Atsumu curled up by his side, wearing one of Kiyoomi’s old Itachiyama shirts, stretched out over the years and fraying at the collar.  His hair sticking in a bunch of crazy directions, to show Atsumu Miya was in fact not some perfect God. His face pressed up against Kiyoomi’s left shoulder causing him to have the most adorable pout and line of drool on to the mattress.  It really pained Kiyoomi to wake him, he looked peaceful and cute.  But the pain was winning out.

“Atsu,” Kiyoomi said placing a hand on his shoulder. He shook him slightly. Atsumu snorted back and curled deeper into the blanket. Kiyoomi felt as a stab of pain flew through his head. He took some deep breaths so to calm it. He tried again but still his stomach lurched with each throb.

“Atsu, baby please wake up. I’m sorry!” Kiyoomi’s voice broke. He really felt like this was it. He was either dying or he was going to vomit all over the place. Atsumu sat up with a start. He looked around, frantically and flailing a little. If Kiyoomi wasn’t in so much pain and about to vomit, he would’ve laughed

“Huh what’s wrong?”

Atsumu looked towards Kiyoomi, who had now curled into a small ball holding his head as tight as possible. Atsumu was quick with it when it came to Kiyoomi’s migraines. He, as silently as possible, turned the bedside lamp on its lowest setting and went to work. He closed the blinds as tight as he could and closed the blackout curtains. Atsumu had them installed two days after their first date, not that he’d ever tell Omi that. He lied and said he had them put in when he first got the apartment. Kiyoomi visibly relaxed a bit as the light in the room dimmed to a small glow of the lamp.

Atsumu then crept over to the dresser, grabbed two of Kiyoomi’s pain killers and a water from the small mini-fridge he put in the room after Kiyoomi moved in

“Now you can have drinks, small snacks and a place to store an ice pack or two. So now when you have your migraines, you don’t have to try and make it all the way to the kitchen. I know how bright that hallway gets in summer Omi.” Atsumu had said holding Kiyoomi by the waist, head propped on Kiyoomi shoulder.

“Omi baby, can you sit up? I got your meds and some water.” he whispered rubbing light circles on Kiyoomi’s shoulder. Kiyoomi took a few deep breaths, sat up slowly eyes closed. He opened his palm. Atsumu cracked open the water as Kiyoomi threw the pills back. Atsumu brought the water to Kiyoomi’s lips. He swallowed the pills and water, taking a few extra sips and then laid back down. Atsumu lightly ran his hand through Kiyoomi’s hair. Kiyoomi leaned into the touch.

“Sorry.” Kiyoomi murmured.

“Don’t apologize.” Atsumu replied.  Atsumu went to leave but Kiyoomi’s hand shot out and grabbed his wrist.

“Baby, I just wanna get your ice pack, I’ll be right back.” He said rubbing circles on Kiyoomi’s hand. Kiyoomi groaned but let him go. As quickly and as quietly as Atsumu could he grabbed Kiyoomi an ice pack from the mini fridge. Kiyoomi sat slowly up and Atsumu placed the ice pack mask on his head.

“There ya go baby. Just relax, I’ll be in the living room, I’ll check on ya in a bit okay”

“Motoya-”

“I know, I’m gonna go text him baby.”

Atsumu placed a small kiss to Kiyoomi’s shoulder and quietly left the room.

When Atsumu was finally in the living room he got to look at the clock, 10:45am. This is the latest he’s slept in months. “Kiyoomi’s gonna apologize about this for at least three days”

Atsumu didn’t mind though, sure sleeping in on a day off was nice, but he much preferred sticking to his routines, otherwise sometimes his brain would fill with tv static, his skin felt itchy and the whole world just felt like it was off its axis. Though today it felt nice to have a free morning. He’d get back on track later.  For now, he had a few things for Kiyoomi he wanted to do.

First, he had to tell Motoya that they would have to reschedule their lunch, which sucked. He knew how much both of them were looking forward to it, if the texts from Osamu and Rin were anything to go by. He knew Kiyoomi was. He had turned down a last-minute invitation for tea with Wakatoshi. Something in the 2 years they’ve been together he has only done once, and it’s because Kiyoomi’s sister was in labor with is niece.

                                                                                  (Atsumu)

Hey, Toya. Omi woke up with a pretty nasty migraine today. So, he wants to reschedule

(motoya)

Oh no! :(
Tell him I said to stop over doing it!! >:(

Okay, tell him to call me when he can!! We’ll figure something out! <3

How’s he doing?

(Atsumu)

He’s asleep rn I think? I gave him

some meds, water and his ice pack

and left him to sleep a little.

(motoya)

Hopefully that helps! Tell him I said to feel better <3

Atsumu’s stomach growled. He should make breakfast but he didn’t want the smell to worsen Kiyoomi’s migraine.  Going out it is! That little local konbini would have something for sure.

He quietly moved about the apartment getting ready. Kiyoomi would kill him for the haphazard outfit he’d pulled together without going into their bedroom. An old pair Inarizaki sweatpants that he left in the guest room dresser, and a semi clean t-shirt sitting in the bathroom. He wore it two days ago before Kiyoomi made him change it.

“God forbid, I have whimsy Omi.” Atsumu crossed his arms

“If you call an old galaxy shirt with a cat wearing glasses on it whimsy, then yes god damn you right now.” Kiyoomi’s nose scrunched up into a cute pout

“Sorry I wear my gifts!!”

“You KNOW Suna got that as a joke for you, and I fully believe to torture me.” Kiyoomi pinched the bridge of his nose.

If Kiyoomi saw him now, he’d set him on fire and throw him over the balcony. Oh well, food calls! He tiptoed into their bedroom.

“Omi, baby you, okay?” he laid a hand on Kiyoomi shoulder. Kiyoomi groaned back.

“I’m heading out really quick, be back in 30 minutes.  Need me to get anything before I go?”

“Kiss.” Kiyoomi turned his head in Atsumu’s direction, lips pushed out. Atsumu giggled but placed a few pecks on Kiyoomi’s lips.

“I’ll be back.”

Kiyoomi groaned in response and burrowed himself back into the blankets. Atsumu tiptoed out back out of the room and quietly shut the door.

The walk to the konbini was nice. Astumu liked getting fresh air every day, which is why he ran damn near every morning with Bokuto. So, this was a nice replacement for his missed run today. Something slow to reflect the day off and relaxation he had planned but still let him get the fresh breeze and sun he always craved.

“Morning Miya-San!” the cashier smiled.

“Morning Shiori-Kun!” he waved back. She blushed and gave a small wave back. She was a big MSBY fan and no matter how long Atsumu and Kiyoomi had been coming to this little place, she always reacted the same.

He grabbed a small basket and made his way around the shelves. He grabbed two salmon onigiri, no where as good as Osamu’s but would do. He also grabbed Omi’s favorite for later, Umeboshi. He also grabbed more treats for Omi. His favorite strawberry sando, favorite green tea and those matcha Kit-Kats.  He might have grabbed himself a chicken katsu don sandwich because frankly he was hungry and taking Atsumu into any store hungry was bad news for his wallet.

He emptied his basket on the counter. Shiori smiled.

“Sakusa-San not feeling well today?” she asked

“Woke up with a migraine” Atsumu nodded. Shiori hummed.

“Ya know what works for me, Melon Bread! Which lucky you! Are on sale today! 5 for 100 yen!” She clasped her hands together. Atsumu blinked, “Was this a sales pitch?”

Uh, sure??” Astumu scratched the back of his neck. He was never good at saying no.

“Awesome! Sakusa-San will love them!” she placed five melon breads on the counter.

“Miya- San? No sweet treat for you today? We have your favorite melon soda! On sale too!” she pointed to the cooler.  5 FOR 100 YEN MELON SODA!!

He went and grabbed five. Sue him, he loved that melon soda.  Shiori smiled bigger than he has ever seen her smile as she rang him up.

Atsumu left with 3000 yen less in his wallet.

Kiyoomi sat up, he pushed the now warm ice pack off his head and it landed with a plop on his thighs. His head still throbbed but it was a manageable ache. He took a couple deep breaths, grounding himself before he felt ready to open his eyes to the world.

Kiyoomi opened his eyes and glanced around. It was pitch black. He felt around the bed was empty, minus his. He slowly turned his phone over and unlocked it. The screen was dimmed thank God. 1:30 PM.

Damn there goes his day off. He groaned and laid back down throwing his fore arm over his eyes. He needed a new ice pack. He also felt a small rumble in his stomach. Food would help, and he didn’t feel the overwhelming urge to vomit any more so he probably could make it to the kitchen. He did have stuff in the minifridge but he wants something a bit more filling than the small snacks he had in there.

He slowly made his way out of the bed. Stopping a moment when he felt a wave of dizziness hit him. He placed the now warm ice pack in the mini fridge to get cold again and made his way to the kitchen.

He squinted his way through the hallway as the brightness did in fact feel overwhelming but he was stubborn.

Kiyoomi looked over at the balcony and saw Astumu out there. He looked to be eating and watching something on his iPad. He made his way over to the balcony door and tapped. Astumu jumped, a muffled holy fuck, and steadied the bowl in his lap.  Atsumu whipped around and then laughed.

Astumu paused his iPad and slid the door open.

“Jesus baby you scared me! Nearly lost my udon!” he laughed

“Why are you out here?” Kiyoomi whispered, his head still was pounding.

“I didn’t want the smell of my take out to bother ya, and I didn’t want the sound of my show to bother ya either.”

“Oh… you ate” Kiyoomi rubbed his temples. He was hoping he could get Atsumu to make something with him.

“I got you something! a lot of somethings actually. I got like brunch at the konbini and got you some stuff.  It’s in the fridge.

“Oh?” Kiyoomi leaned on the doorway, just a little dizzy.

“Yeah, some onigiri and a few sweet treats. Are you dizzy?” Astumu looked worry.

“I’m fine” Kiyoomi waved him off. Atsumu stared at him a few moments but continued.

“I also got you something from the take-out place! Those soba noodles you like and a side of fried. Oh, and some mochi!! I got you some of the matcha ones! They though in some strawberry and melon as well.” Astumu smiled.

Kiyoomi felt the tears well in his eyes. Even after two years together he still was not used to be being taken care of. His family, minus his sister mother and cousin, had always treated Kiyoomi’s migraines as burden to them. Something that stood in there way, an inconcvince to their lives. So, this was so new to him.

“Omi! Baby are you okay?? Shit does it hurt that bad! Maybe we should go to the hospital” Astumu stood holding Omi’s head gingerly as if he would break.

“No, no it’s not that. I just.” Kiyoomi out his hands over Astumu’s. Kiyoomi help Astumu’s gaze. His brown eyes looking over Kiyoomi with love and worry.

“I’m not used to this. Being taking care of this way. Thank you.” Kiyoomi gave a small smile. Atsumu visibly relaxed.

“You never have to thank me Omi. I love to do it because I love you” Astumu smiled back and placed a kiss on Omi’s forehead. Omi’s stomached growled. They both giggled.

“Now lets you something to eat.” Atsumu smiled.

“Why the hell did you buy 5 melon breads??” Kiyoomi laughed.

“Shiori said they were on sale!!” Astumu sighed

“Good lord she shall you coming! They said they were having melon themed promotion for the next like month” Kiyoomi shook his head

“oh” Atsumu pouted.

Shiori was giggling to herself at the counter for sure.
