Work Text:

It was a hard day for Robby, shit just kept piling up, with work and the anniversary of his bubbe’s death landing on the same day, it was too much. Which leads to now, Jack comforting his lover as he cries in his lap. Robby rarely cries, and if he does, he keeps it to himself. Well, now he has someone to cry too.

Jack was running his hands through Robby’s hair, every once in a while nodding as Robby talked about his struggles of this day. He understood Robby, much better than everyone else at work or any of his three friends.

“It’ll be okay, Misha…” He honestly hasn’t called Robby ‘Misha’ since med school, mostly to tease him, until now. Robby sniffs and buries his head into Jack’s lap. Jack doesn’t care that Robby is crying all over his jeans, he’s here for his lover and that's all that matters.

Robby sighs and looks up at Jack, and he knows that face. The ‘I’m sorry that I’m crying’ face that Jack dislikes.

“Don’t apologize, Mikey. I understand how you feel, grief can grip you longer than you think…” Jack says, rubbing the palm of his hand over Robby’s cheek, the facial hair tickling his hand.

“I know, but-”

“Nuh-uh, no buts. You can grief, you can mourn, you can let out anything with me Michael. Never apologize for feeling emotions. How ‘bout this? We go to the bedroom, I tuck you in and I can hold you. Would that make you feel better, baby?” Jack offers, robby nods shyly and sits up. He sniffs and wipes his eyes quickly.

Jack leans in and kisses Robby’s cheek, looking him in the eyes, “don’t apologize for feeling, Mikey. My beautiful boy, let’s go to bed.” Jack gets his crutches and stands up, cracking his back and groaning.

Robby gets up with a groan as well.

“Man, we’re getting old, aren’t we?” Jack comments, Robby chuckles and nods.

“I guess we are.” Robby says through a rough voice, obviously burnt out from the crying and talking. Jack nods once and makes his way to the bedroom, opening the door. He crutches into the room going to the bathroom to do his routine alongside his boyfriend.

After brushing their teeth and doing some other things, they lie in bed, Jack’s hand rubbing Robby’s back. Robby has his eyes closed, resting his body after such an intense day. His breathing starts to even out and Jack sighs in relief that Robby is finally calming down.

He kisses the top of Robby’s head and closes his own eyes, falling asleep with his lover in his arms, wondering if Robby will ever admit he needs help.
