Work Text:
Prince Eric's statue is in Ariel's grotto, and she says to it "You know I'm really not supposed to talk to strangers, but you're not a stranger. We've met before."
She sings "Once Upon a Dream" from Sleeping Beauty to Eric's statue, twirls around with Flounder, sings and hums along with him.
Ariel feels masculine hands holding onto hers and a voice singing along with her. She hears the voice singing "The way you did once upon a dream."
She turns around and sees Eric as a merman. Ariel doesn't say a single word to Eric, because her expression says it all.
He asks her softly "I'm awfully sorry, did I frighten you?"
She shakes her head and says "It wasn't that. It's just that you're a-" He finishes for her "A stranger?" She says "Mmhmm" and he says to her "But we've met before."
She asks him "We-we have?"
He says to her "Well, of course. You said so yourself-once upon a dream."
She hides behind the statue, and Eric sings "I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream. I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam."
Eric stops singing and disembodied voices join in. They hear a chorus singing "And I know it's true, that visions are seldom all they seem. But if I know you, I know what you'll do. You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream."
Eric takes Ariel's hand in his, he twirls her around, and they dance in her grotto.
They share true love's kiss and Eric remains a merman.
