Work Text:
Her Highness
It was just another night. Just another night of Silver; thinking about Candle.
Ever since that day at the volcano, she was all he thought about. It was agonizing. Why was her presence so… intoxicating?
Silver had never realized how beautiful she was, how considerate— how reliable she was. She was a comfort to most, but Silver? He didn’t know whether he was annoyed or enamored. No in between.
Overall, he was confused. He didn’t know what she did to him. Had she cast a spell on him? She does seem like a witch. He was plotting against her at the start, so why did he want her so badly?
Each day that passed, the more Silver felt for her, wanted her, yearned for her.
He was relieved he’s always had a way to get things off his mind, to unwind and slow his thoughts. Writing. It was his outlet, and at times like these, he needed it— After a long day of pretending like he didn’t want her to hold him close and tell him that everything is okay. That he’s not worthless. That he’s valued.
He wanted to feel her fingers run through his silky hair, and her soft lips on his.
He wanted to feel worthy.
Silver had a love-hate relationship with returning to his room just to write about his day, and, of course, his muse: Candle.
He usually wrote about not feeling appreciated enough or how Mephone tuckered him and the other contestants out— far too much for His Highness, who should be pampered and praised, not worked like a dog! At least not by that wretched host. (Or Blueberry, that traitor.) Otherwise, she was what he wrote about most of the time. He was a bit bothered by the fact that it was all about Candle, but hey— more writing for him.
Today especially was a good day for him, his thoughts full of her, having spent some time with her earlier.
The second he finished his extra long shower, skincare, and hair care routine, he scurried straight to his desk, calming classical music still playing. He grabbed a pen and started dumping his feelings onto the paper. Little did he know, his hyperfocus would be the death of him.
Someone had crept in, sneaking up on him. He froze when he saw a hand resting on his desk.
He didn’t move. Didn’t turn around. He just sat there, petrified. He inhaled the slightest bit, a lovely, faint smell of lavender and chamomile.
He knew that smell, it was Candle. He wanted to close his journal so she wouldn’t see, or to push her away, but he couldn’t.
“Silver? Are you alright? Did I startle you?” He opened his mouth to try and respond. Not a word escaped.
“I see. It’s okay if you can’t talk right now. I’m sorry I snuck up on you like that… should I go?” He managed to shake his head.
Sometimes this happened to Silver, but not in front of others. He always tried his best to isolate himself so he wouldn’t be seen. Candle nodded and sat on the floor nearby him, meditating in the meantime.
“Take your time.” She said gently. Silver was frightened and upset, not expecting someone to just show up, especially not Candle. He was happy she was so understanding… and patient… He squeezed his hands, trying to ground himself somehow. After several minutes, Silver could finally speak.
“You’ve.. never come over before, let alone unannounced. I’m sorry you had to see me like that. Sometimes I can’t speak if my emotions are.. too much at once. Embarrassing, isn’t it.” How could this happen in front of her? He wanted to hide. Candle opened her eyes.
“No need to apologize, I don’t usually do surprises, my bad.. I just thought I should check up on you. Is that okay?” Silver blushed a bit and nodded. “Well, I wouldn’t say I hate you being here.” Candle smiled. “So, what were you up to when I came?” Silver averted his eyes. “Oh, nothing, just a little journaling. About my day and the sort.” Candle nodded. “That is good for relaxing. May I see?..” Silver quickly closed the book, nervous she’d already taken a peek in it. “Ah, I thought you’d already seen.. when you came in. It’s rather private.” Candle hummed. “I see. Maybe I should try writing. I’ve been feeling a little stressed these last couple days.”
The kettle whistled from the kitchen. (NOT TK..) Silver got up to turn it off, signaling for Candle to follow him.
“Candle? Stressed? My, is that something I thought I’d never hear.” She giggled. He pulled out a chair from under his little table for her to sit.
“Well, with a lot more people coming to therapy, especially now with almost the entire community recovering from Cobs, and helping out at Taco’s restaurant.. It's a little hard to stay as composed as usual. I’ve been getting less sleep too.” Silver slid her a cup of hot tea. “Remember, my dear, it’s okay to take breaks. With all you’ve done for us, they should understand. Chamomile?”
Candle accepted the flavor and stirred her tea. She stared down into her cup.
“It’s just that… I need to help people. It’s my purpose. If I’m not a helper, a mentor in some kind.. it feels like they’ve moved on. They don’t need me anymore.” She said.
“I need you.”
Candle looked up from her tea; his words caught her off guard. “W-what I meant was, we— you have always been an amazing teacher. Without you I.. probably wouldn’t have made it that far in season 3. Or improved myself. Others probably need you too, and would warmly welcome you back after a break, dear.”
Candle‘s expression softened. “Thank you, Silver. I didn’t know you had the advisor spirit in you.” She laughed. “Perhaps I take after you. You are the queen of advice, Candy. Or should I say— Your Highness?” Candle giggled, her eyes not leaving Silver.
“What do you do to relax? Maybe you can use it in times like this.” Silver asked. She didn’t need to think much about that. “Well, I meditate, take a nice bath, watch the moon, and some other private things I do for myself.”
Silver looked intrigued. “Private things, hm? And what would that be?” Candle shook her head. “You didn’t share your secret, I’m not sharing mine either, Silver.” She teased. He huffed. “I’m just trying to help, my dear. Hiding it will not help me give suggestions.”
She took a deep breath. “Secret for secret? You tell yours, I tell mine.” Silver hesitated but then agreed, reluctantly. “A-alright. But I’ll only show you one page.” “Fine by me.”
Candle wrote her secret down on a little paper while Silver got his journal. He sat down, flipping to the least embarrassing, least desperate page and sliding the book over to her. “Oh dear this is humiliating..” Silver muttered. Candle gave him her secret note. The note read:
‘The secret thing I do to relax is pleasuring myself.’ Silver's eyes widened, while Candle’s softened. Sure, Silver was a little too obsessed with her, but it was endearing. He cares. He needs her. And she needs to be needed. “Silver, this is so sweet of you—“
She looked up from the journal to see a pink-faced Silver Spoon. He did not know how to respond to her note. His mind was flooded with images of Candle, indulging in her little secret. “Silver.” He finally snapped out of it. He saw Candle, looking up at him. “Why didn’t you tell me you felt this way?”
Silver stuttered, trying to get his words out. “I just thought- I thought that it’d change how you see me— for the worse, that is.” Candle hummed, continuing to read it. “I see.” Silver rocked back and forth on his feet. “Um, so what do you really think, my dear?” She stepped closer, gently placing her hand on his arm. She tilted her head up, gazing into his eyes.
“May I kiss you, Prince Silver Spoon?” He felt like he could faint. She had the cutest smile. “Please.” He quickly answered.
She stood on her tippy toes. Candle’s lips pressed against his, her arms draping over his shoulders, hands gliding over his silk pajamas.
Silver’s knees were going weak, the taste of her lips on his tongue. Despite being nervous, he deepened the kiss, wanting more of her. She let out an amused hum. Silver was holding her tight, like he was afraid she’d let go.
“Silver, I think you need to remember to breathe as well..” They chuckled, and took a break for a minute.
“C-Candle, I.. does this make us..” She kissed him again, softly. “Yes, Silver. You’re my boyfriend. That is what we want, correct?” Silver nodded vigorously. She giggled. They laid down in Silver’s bed, his head resting against her chest. He was drowsy, his eyelids becoming heavier with each blink.
They had a comfortable silence, doing nothing but cuddling in bed. But even so, Silver wanted to savor this moment for as long as he could before his mind gave in to sleep. Candle broke the silence, proposing an idea.
“Maybe one day you could help me to relieve my stress?” She exhaled a laugh. A shiver went down Silver’s spine. He sleepily spoke,
“I’d be honored, Your Highness.” He finally drifted off to sleep in Candle’s arms, a kiss pressed against his forehead.
THANK YOU FOR READING!!
