Work Text:
Clancy was sitting at the dining table, surrounded by different documents, looking at some files on his laptop. As he had been for the past three days.
They were working on an undercover case, where they had to pose as a married couple. The Chief had arranged for them to stay in a small apartment until the case was over. It was a very cute apartment. The windows let in just the right amount of light, the wooden dining table was just big enough for the two of them (and apparently just big enough for Clancy to surround himself with documents) and the sofa was so soft that Doohickey had almost fallen asleep on it more than once.
The only problem was, that Clancy had barely left the table since they'd moved in. Yesterday, Jacob walked into the kitchen to make coffee, asked Kit if he wanted one too and he didn't even hear him.
Now Doohickey was sitting on the sofa, watching TV, occasionally glancing at his partner to check if he was even breathing. Of course he wasn't completely still, he bounced his leg impatiently, reached for his coffee or switched files every now and then. The most concerning part was the fact, that he hadn't eaten since Doohickey had pressed a piece of toast into his hands this morning.
This couldn't go on anymore. Jacob turned to Clancy, and tried calling his name to get his attention. After several failed attempts, he stood up and walked over to the dining table where the Detective sat. "Kit, " he tried again, tapping him on the shoulder. In response, the blonde shifted in his seat, pulling his shoulder away. "I'm busy," he said, not taking his eyes off the screen. Doohickey sighed. He was expecting a response like that.
"Kit, you're tired."
"No"
"Yes you are! You haven't eaten since this morning either. It's 4:50!"
"I'm fine," he replied monotonously, still not looking at Doohickey. The constable finally accepted defeat..until he got a better idea. Instead of going back to the sofa, he walked over to the radio that was on the kitchen counter and turned it on, replacing the silence (and occasional clicking of laptop keys) with a soft, hazy melody. He then picked it up, walked back to the dining table and placed it on the document Clancy was reading.
"...you're blocking my files"
"Good." He replied, stretching his hand towards Kit.
"What are you doing?" He asked, genuinely confused at what Doohickey's plan was.
"Dance with me." He said instead of answering him.
"I'm busy"
"It wasn't a question."
Clancy smiled, shaking his head a little, and took Doohickey's outstretched hand, who grinned at his success. He pulled Clancy up and gently slipped an arm around his waist. Kit stood stiffly for a moment, not quite sure what to do, but it didn't take long for him to relax into the other's touch. They started slowly swaying to the rhythm of the song, drifting closer to each other with every beat.
Kit absentmindedly placed a hand on Jacob's shoulder, before letting his head rest on the other one, burying his face in the crook of his neck. Doohickey held him close. The two were basically melting into each other now, barely having any space between them. They had never done something like this before, but it somehow felt so right.
Jacob kept rocking them, holding Kit so he could just relax. And Kit did something he hasn't in a while-he let himself just breathe for a bit. He let himself be held and melt into the touch. Neither of them wanted to move away and let go of the moment. So they didn't. They stayed there, just embracing each other's presence, simply swaying together, letting the music fill the space where words usually lived.
Eventually, Doohickey spoke. "Feeling any better?" He asked. Clancy lifted his head to look at Jacob.
"Yeah...actually, a lot better. Thank you."
"Wow, never thought I'd hear you say those words"
"Shut up," he replied, looking away with a smirk.
For a second, he let himself get lost in the others eyes, admiring the way light danced in them and how the afternoon sunshine made them light up like fire.
At that moment, Doohickey leaned forward, pressing their lips together. The kiss only lasted a couple of seconds until they pulled apart to look at each other. Clancy's lips formed into a smile and so did Doohickey's.
This time, Clancy was the one who leaned forward for a longer kiss. Doohickey's hand wandered up to Clancy's neck while the other one remained around his waist. Kit's hand was resting on Doohickey's cheek and the other on his back. When they finally broke apart for air, neither of them could stop smiling. Then, Doohickey, being the smartass that he was, grinned and said
"Soo are you just gonna go back to your files, or...?"
Kit dropped his head, smiling.
"No."
"No?"
He lifted his head again, to look at his partner.
"No. I'm busy."
