donut felt barf bag squeeze his hand as she lay next to him on the soft, grassy hill, the sun shining happily on them both. some of their other friends - gelatin, naily, and bomby - were playing in the valley nearby, but they were too far away to be heard.
barf bag sighed happily, fiddling with a small flower in her free hand.
"this is nice, isn't it?" she asked, giving the little flower to donut.
donut blushed a bit as the flower was given to him. "oh-! y-yeah, i'm really glad we finally get to relax after... everything..."
barf bag offered him a tender smile. "i hope you won't have to worry about the competition too much anymore."
donut laughed softly. "i'll try."
they fell into a comfortable silence, watching the summer nature around them.
a butterfly fluttered over and landed on barf bag's nose. she sneezed, and it moved to donut's, earning a shared laugh from them both.
they both heard a yelp from the valley below and turned to see what was going on with the other members of team ice cube.
it seemed that naily had accidentally pricked bomby with her sharp end and was apologizing, while bomby simply shrugged it off and continued building his fork stack with gelatin.
they kept building for a bit, and once it had reached about the height of all three stacked on top of one another, naily climbed to the top and shouted, loud enough for barf bag and donut to hear, "I'M QUEEN OF THE WORLD!!"
which earned a collective laugh from barf bag, donut and the two builders of the fork stack.
after naily climbed down from the fork stack, she sat down in the grass with her eyes closed, before opening them again and looking up at the sky. she turned to gelatin and bomby, a confused expression on her face, and they looked to the sky as well.
barf bag and donut followed their gazes upwards - dark, gloomy clouds had begun to form over the fields, and fat raindrops began falling from the sky.
before long, the two had gathered up their other three teammates and brought them under a large tree that offered well enough shade.
and the drizzle eventually became a downpour, soaking the grass around them.
"it's summer!" bomby complained, his squeaky voice pitched up with distress. "this isn't supposed to be happening!!"
"i miss my fork stack..." gelatin muttered, pulling a lone fork from his inventory and frowning at it.
"i'm sure it'll be over soon," donut murmured, half trying to console himself as well. this storm felt a little... wrong to him. kind of like something that had happened in tpot...
he shouldn't be thinking about that.
but once his brain went down that road, it felt harder and harder to stop...
he hugged his legs to his chest, resting against the tree trunk. barf bag seemed to notice this and shuffled to sit next to him, embracing him in a silent but tight hug.
the edges of donut's mouth curled into a worried smile, and he tried to hug back.
lightning stuck outside.
loud enough to wake him up.
donut sat up, rubbing his head. where was he?
there was lava flowing down the walls. very unsettling.
to his immediate left and right were golf ball and pen.
it dawned on him.
she wasn't here at all.
i was... dreaming.
she's still gone.
i'm so sorry, barf bag.
