Olive had been hearing the music for longer than she could remember. She couldn’t think of a day where it hadn’t been with her, not since her childhood.
The song was gentle, a soft crooning, one that never ended. It reminded Olive of a whale, alone underneath the waves.
Sometimes, it grew claws. Sharp stabs of music that cut into her days, and made her shrink in on herself.
One day, the music stopped. It was there for a second, and then it disappeared. A wave breaking across a bay, and vanishing into the sands.
She lost something, that day. A little hole, that the world could never quite fill.
