Work Text:
You laid back in your bed, absolutely drained and exhausted. The midwives in the room smiled as they lifted the baby boy gently, his lungs strong as he screamed and cried.
"A boy.." one of the midwives whispered, gently wiping him off and passing him to you. You took your baby gently and immediately felt like all those nine months of aches were worth it. A sigh left you as you held him close to your chest, as if he already knew what to do he latched on to one of your nipples and started to nurse.
One of the midwives left to go inform the Jarl, your husband, about the successful birth while the others cleaned up and hot up some spiced wine. "Sifnar has made you soup, my lady." One of the younger ones stated as she gently lifted a spoon to your mouth.
"I am not hungry right now." You muttered as you stared gently at your son, "I will eat later, yes?" The nurse seemed a bit worried but nevertheless put the bowl of soup next to you on the nightstand.
The door opened quickly and in stepped Ulfric, his presence immediately taking up the room. Everyone stiffened immediately as his gaze went directly to you, he made his way over and pulled up a chair. "My Queen.." he whispered softly, hesitantly reaching out a hand as if he was scared a single touch would break you. He moved some of your sweat soaked hair out of your face and smiled. "As beautiful as the day I saw you." Ulfric then looked down at his son who was still nursing, a soft twinkle appearing in his eye.
"He already looks like you.." You smiled weakly, not looking up from your little boy, "and no doubt he will be as strong as you."
"Stronger." Ulfric stated as if it was already a well known fact. "He has you as a mother. He will be far stronger than any Nord." He dismissed the nurses and waited until it was just the three of you to speak again. "My love.. you have made my life..how can I ever thank you?" He hummed as he kissed your head.
"Perhaps not another child for a few years?" You said softly to which he let out a laugh, smiling down at you.
"No..just this little family is worth everything."
The room went to comfortable since as you pulled your son away from your nipple and he slept peacefully. Looking at Ulfric slightly you could see he did not see this boy as just a heir, but a boy who was to be loved and cherished. As one of you both.
