BOOM! The ground shook.
Elvira Santos clutched the side of a cot. “What on earth is going on?”
Her fellow nurses, Renee and Anna glanced up. “I think they’re bombing the town,” Renee answered.
BOOM! The ground shook harder. a crack began to form on the wall closest Elvira. BOOM!!! Dust began to fall from the ceiling, and the sky lit up outside.
Renee paled. “Anna, Elvira, we need to get out of here. This building is going to come down on our heads.”
Anna nodded. She motioned for Elvira to help her with a stretcher. Together, the two nurses carried it out to the foyer. Elvira gasped as the sky lit up with flames, and a building down the street crumbled.
“Come on!” Anna cried. Renee joined them, dragging another stretcher. The nurses managed to bring at least ten other stretchers outside, where a group of soldiers met them and loaded the stretchers onto jeeps.
BOOM!! This one sounded closer. Elvira gasped as the ceiling shook, and the cracks expanded. BOOM!
“Anna, Renee, look out!”
It was too late. The ceiling began to fall. Renee was crushed by a boulder, which knocked Anna and Elvira off their feet and into the wall. Pain erupted in Elvira’s head, and everything went dark.
