Theta liked adventure. Koschei did not really like adventure. They’d prefer to stay in bed and study if possible. Unfortunately, they rarely got to do such due to Theta constantly dragging them somewhere or them having to tag along with the other Time Lord wherever they went. Because Theta was like a magnet for trouble, and Koschei cared about them too much to let anything bad happen to them. Not that they’d ever say that out loud, though. They were always calm, composed, and aloof. They didn’t do the whole ‘feelings’ thing, which was why it was so embarrassing to be dating Theta.
“Come on,” Theta wheedled.
“No,” Koschei said firmly. “Can’t I just study for once? It is so embarrassing to be in love with you.”
“Ha! You admitted you’re in love with me!”
“No I didn’t. Now go away. I’m busy.”
“Please, Kos. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. We may never get to do this again,” Theta pleaded. Koschei avoided looking into their eyes, knowing they couldn’t say no if they made eye contact. They didn’t even know if they could say no much longer. Theta genuinely sounded like they were going to burst into tears at any moment.
“My exams are a once in a lifetime experience,” Koschei huffed.
“We still have a month until exams! You can spend one hour doing something with your significant other or you can study like you always are!” they complained. Koschei twitched. They were beginning to feel bad. Really bad, actually. “You never want to do anything with me, Kos.”
Koschei turned to look at them. “Yes I do—” they stopped what they were saying. Theta was pouting as their eyes welled up with tears. “Hey, hey, I do stuff with you! Don’t cry, I’m sorry.” They hugged them.
“So you’ll go?” came a muffled voice from against their chest.
“Yes, but only for an hour. Like you said.” Theta hummed in agreement.
“Let’s go then!” they said excitedly. Koschei groaned internally and followed after them.
The sky was, admittedly, beautiful. Distant stars twinkled in the orange haze of the Gallifreyan atmosphere.
“Look,” Theta whispered, and they watched as a meteor streaked through the sky, disappearing beyond the mountains.
“Okay, fine, it’s nice,” Koschei grumbled, watching another piece of rock break up in the atmosphere.
“Nicer than your exams, I assume?” Theta grinned.
“Yes.”
“Am I nicer than your exams?”
“Don’t push your luck, Theta.”
They watched the meteors crash down into the distant hills of the planet, leaving streaks of different colors wherever they shot across the sky. It was gorgeous, the way they shimmered. Like they were dancing. They could see the reflections of the stars wobbling in the nearby lake, the light refracting across the water like a disco ball.
“Isn’t it nice? To just get out? To get away from it all?” Theta asked.
“I suppose so,” Koschei said.
“And do you do it all because you looove me?” Koschei snorted.
“Maybe I love you a little bit. Just a little.”
“Are you sure? I think you love me a whole lot.”
“No, just a little bit.”
“Kiss me to prove it then,” Theta grinned. Koschei laughed and leaned in, bringing their lips together. Theta sighed contentedly. They finally had everything they could ever want.
