Work Header

Secret

Summary:

The Intern is stressing about work, especially because of how difficult it is to hide being an anomaly.

The Secret Agent notices, and tries to help since they're both running low on sanity.

+1 Sanity, +1 Sanity, +5 Sanity

Chapter Text

It was a long shift at the hospital.

The coffee machine was still brewing, even though the Intern could have sworn it already was for 10 minutes.

Maybe he was just tired, but he felt like he was going crazy.

... maybe next time he'll sleep like the agent suggested.

He checked in more patients, lingering on the cameras for longer than he should.

He had to make sure they were normal.

He couldn't risk anything, especially not with the fact that Secret Agent was on a break.

Intern checked every picture, every angle of the cameras, every signed form.

Just to make sure he wouldn't fuck up his job, or make Agent's harder.

But he must have, because a loud BANG echoed in the hallways.

He even heard the gurgling of the skinwalker.

"Intern."

He wasn't mad--at least not yet. More curious how an Intern this good at their job could slip up like that.

Intern didn't speak. Didn't move. Didn't even look.

He kept staring down at his own hands (paws) in shame.

But he did eventually look up, when he felt weight on his shoulder.

The Secret Agent rested his head there, glancing up at Intern's guilty eyes.

"Should have payed more attention, hm?"

He knew the Intern didn't like to speak, so he spoke for him.

Intern nodded, pressing his hands together pleadingly.

Secret Agent just shook his head and grabbed his hands.

"You need coffee. Or sleep."

"... Sanity?"

Intern felt like everything was slowing down, and it figured.

3%.

That was the lowest he'd ever gotten after Secret Agent started watching him.

He frowned, running his tongue over his fangs while thinking about the anomaly.

How he was one too.

Until he felt something warm on his neck.

The Secret Agent nuzzled against Intern's neck, letting his tongue poke out like any typical cat.

When feeling the Intern relax, he contiued rubbing against him.

Intern could even hear him purring if he listened quietly enough.

+1 Sanity, +1 Sanity

The Secret Agent pulled away, and Intern was confused at first.

Then Secret Agent started planting little kisses on his face.

The little bunny nose, the cheeks, even the lips.

+5 Sanity

Intern giggled nervously, just letting the cat peck at him for his sanity.

When the Secret Agent did pull back, he didn't even get a second before Intern had his face buried in his neck, nuzzling him back.

They just stayed like that for a few minutes, soaking in each others warmth and letting their sanity climb back up.

Intern pulled away, and planted just one kiss on Secret Agent's lips before going back to the check-in window to help patients.

But he stayed, watching the intern.

He just wanted to make sure he was safe this time, and now would be right there if they decided they needed more sanity.

They hadn't noticed the secretary watching from the hall, but wouldn't care if they did.

Ron From Accounting, a frequent visitor, sensed some sort of tension but didn't say anything.

But he did share a look with Secretary when passing in the hallway, and they both knew something was up with the two.

Intern checked in patients, printing badges in a blur.

He couldn't stop thinking about Secret Agent.

Funny enough, it kept him sane.

"Hey. Is there something going on between you and the agent?"

Intern hadn't expected Secretary to appear behind him, and nearly jumped over the counter.

He swallowed nervously, shaking his head unconvincingly.

He couldn't keep eye contact though.

He fidgeted, thinking about if him and the agent were any thing more than friends.

They just had some benefits, right?

It was a casual thing...

Right?

The more he tried to convince himself, the more he realized he did in fact like that cat.

Secretary noticed the blush that Intern didn't, but said nothing about it.

If he was going to deny it, then that was his business.

The nurse was off duty, so Secret Agent was taking care of patients. While analyzing Ron's condition, he didn't expect to be called out.

"So, you and that Intern... You two seem to have some kind of tension."

Ron stated casuallly, glancing at Secret Agent.

Just an observation.

"I keep my relationships professional."

"Right. So would that explain the closeness?"

Ron was a very observational guy apparently.

"That's none of your business as a patient."

"How about as a fellow Animal Corporation employee?"

"Don't even start."

Ron just shrugged, laying on his back but never letting g his mind drift from the pair.

He notices a lot more than people thought he did, like how Agent's tail was swishing.

And how his ears were pinned flat on his head.

Right, professional.

After treating Ron, Secret Agent watched Intern at the front desk.

He kept in his shadows, lurking like a predator in the dark like always.

Until Intern waved him over.

"In need of assistance?"

Intern shook his head. He didn't call him over for help this time.

He tugged on Agent's tie to bring him down and gave him a quick kiss before smiling up at him.

The way Secret Agent's ears twitched, might have made him seem high without context.

He might as well have been, honestly.

And this time, he noticed the Secretary. He pressed a finger to his lips.

A silent warning; "Not a word."

Secretary nodded, and just left.

Maybe Intern and Secret Agent could be more than colleagues, but nobody would know.

It could be their little secret.
