Work Text:

"Parrot, that's enough." Wifies paused, staring at him. Parrot had tried to escape more times than not.

"Wifies.. We can still leave this place. We can get out of here and go back to spawn, or even millions of blocks out. We can be free together." Parrot pleaded.

"It's not safe! What part don't you understand-!?" Wifies began to talk desperately, the fear and worry in his voice audible.

Parrot took a step closer to Wifies, away from the obsidian wall. "We can't truly live if there is no risk of dying, Wifies. But I'd rather risk my life and be free than be trapped in this prison. I thought you'd know that."

Wifies stared at Parrot for a moment, the ideas in his head clearly conflicting with one another. He then looked at the wall he had made. The wall that was supposed to keep them safe in their own little world.

"Parrot... If you ever died, I would never forgive myself." Wifies argued weakly, his eyes glancing over to the Spyglass parrot was holding.

Parrot took another step forward, finally meeting Wifies' gaze. "It'll be alright. There's no guarantee that we'll die out there. Even here, in this prison, somebody could show up at any moment... We'll never truly be safe on this server. We can't choose when, where or how we die, but at least we can choose to be free."

Wifies looked away again, now looking up to see the edge of the wall, just barely scraping the sky. "Parrot.. If we get out of this prison... Please... Will you promise me that you'll stop being so reckless? That you'll run away from fights you're even the slightest bit unsure about?" He asked, voice cracking ever so slightly. This was supposed to be their new beginning. Paragon was supposed to be the perfect world for them, and he was already about to give up on it?

"I promise I'll try." Parrot then stepped towards the wall. "You've always been smarter than me, Wifies. Even this prison shows that you know me in and out, probably better than I know myself." Parrot began to talk, looking up the wall as well. "And for that reason, I think you should be the one to hold on to this. You'll keep it safe, I know you will. I've... Had it on me all this time.. But still. It almost got destroyed on multiple occasions. This spyglass... It's the very token of our friendship."

"Parrot... Please, keep it." Wifies hesitated.

"I'm not smarter than you, I'm not.. But that doesn't mean I don't know you either, Wifies. If I ever die, this Spyglass will probably come down with me.. And for that exact reason, I want you to have it. Hold on to it as a symbol for our new beginnings. It's all yours."

Parrot tossed the Spyglass over and Wifies picked it up. After a moment of hesitation, he smiled slowly and they began to break through the wall together, the sunrise shining through once they dug through the final layer. For the first time in two weeks, Parrot tasted freedom and Wifies felt the hope he had missed for months.
