“Connor? What’s taking you so long? We have to leave.”
Zoe knocked on the closed door for what felt like the 50th time, wondering if he was actually still sleeping or is wide awake and is just not answering to piss her off. She’d been ready to leave for quite a while now and is meant to leave in fifteen minutes otherwise they would be late for school.
Making the assumption that his alarm would’ve woken him up was a very stupid one. ‘It’s Monday, of course he got stoned last night.’ she thought to herself
She knocked on the door even harder, she then asked again louder, yelling even, “Connor! Are you even awake?”. She waited for a few more moments for a response, a yell back or movement or anything to let her know he’s awake, however yet again, nothing.
After a few minutes passed and only a few remaining, she decided to open the door to wake him up herself. Sure, she had done this before but it is still an invasion of privacy, and sure there was a chance he would yell at her if he was awake to get the fuck out but Cynthia wouldn’t want them to be late for the first day of senior year.
She slowly lowers her hand onto the doorknob before gently opening the door. She takes a few steps in, looks around, his room was cleaner than she remembered, only a few clothes here and there. There’s even a small tree by the window’s closed curtains, she really expected some huge mess. With each step she takes she feels more and more unsure on whether she should wake him up in the first place and avoid getting yelled at or let him be late and take the punishment later on, the feeling doesn’t get any less worse as she is at the foot of the bed. She’s here already, she may as well just do it.
Just as she is about to shake him she pauses and takes a moment to look at him. He is facing away from her with a blanket covering up until half his face, from what she could see he looks so peaceful. It was nice to see him actually having a good sleep for once, it’s been years since he seemed this calm.
Remembering what she’s here for, she walks up to the side of the bed, his back facing away from her, and reaches her hand out behind his shoulder. Her hand hesitates above him. Now she is starting to think that taking the punishment for not waking him up would just be the better option.
“Zoe, you're going to be late!” Zoe’s head snaps back to the door, “we don’t want you being late for the first day of school, dear! Please just get your brother. What is taking him so long?”
Right….
Hearing her mother's call reminds her what she’s here for.
She slowly turns back to Connor and just as she is about to shake him, his body shifts.
She can see his face more clearly now. The dark circles under his eyes tells her that he doesn’t want to wake her up. And, the light smile on his face tells her he is actually getting rest for once.
But she has to.
Another small shift in his movements reveal light brown hair in front of his face. Of course, Connor doesn’t have light brown hair unless he dyed the ends last night, but that seems unlikely that Connor would suddenly dye it in the middle of the night right before the first day of senior year.
Her hands move away from the shoulder as Zoe moves to the other side of the bed to get a better view. She leans closer near the tuft, reaching out to carefully hold it, before realising who it is.
Her hand quickly retreats back, it’s the guy who tried talking to her after one of her performances wasn't it? His name…His name was-
“Zoe what the fuck are you doing here?” Connor yells. He sits up quickly and pulls a blanket over Evan, probably waking him up too judging by the shuffling underneath it.
Oh well, it was a nice moment while it lasted.
“What am I doing? You’re the one sleeping in causing the both of us to be late!”
“I don’t fucking care can you get out?”
“Can you stop swearing for one second?”
Usually by now he would’ve thrown a pillow at her, that’s probably where Evan is still laying.
“Connor. I know he’s there, You wouldn’t want him to be late too would you?”, she smugly says smugly with a smug look on her face.
She has no idea how close they are or even if they are in a relationship, it’s still a good guess to assume they’re dating if Connor is sneaking him around and sleeping with him.
Connor’s face flushes. There’s the answer she guesses.
He shouts again, “Get out!”, throwing a different pillow at her.
Zoe runs out of the room, closing the door behind her.
She is glad that Connor found someone for him, the two look happy together. She wonders if given time Connor would’ve told her about him himself one day.
