Chapter Text
Coy was tired, sneaking out to Hanbon’s with Will to get drunk on an empty stomach last night was something he was only just realising was a bad idea. And to add onto that, Lord Patterson - his ex that only his two closest friends knew about - was walking towards him.
“Piso!” he put his arm around Coy’s shoulder and ruffled his hair, Coy hated his hair being messed up.
“Fuck off Patterson.” He shoved Lord Patterson off of him, it was too early for this.
“Aww is the faggot still angry I’m not in love with him?”
“You know why the fuck I’m angry, for MONTHS-“
Coy was on the floor, his mouth tasted metallic, and the punches kept coming - his eye, his chest, his nose. Coy felt himself drowning in pain.
Then all of a sudden he had space to breathe, he looked up and Patterson was being pulled away and held up by his collar against a locker by someone who looked oddly familiar. Anthony Po.
“If you touch him again, if you lay a single finger on him, I will fucking kill you.”
Coy woke up, when did he fall asleep? Someone was trying to hold him upright,
“Coy I swear to god if you die I’m gonna kill you.”
“Bon he’s okay he’s opening his eyes.”
“What the- what happened?” Coy sat up, Hanbon’s hand on his back and Will’s hand holding his own. His eyes felt fuzzy and the world around him was spinning.

2 weeks later, Coy was sat in music class, he’d been doing fine in school and Patterson left him alone (apart from a few odd glances in the hallway), but he couldn’t get his mind off of Anthony. Coy barely knew him but he was childhood friends with Bon and Will.
Apparently he was nice, but Coy always found him too aggressive and he seemed like the kind of guy who bullied people like him.
And of course Anthony was also the star player on the football team, everyone knew who he was but they barely knew him past sports and parties.
Coy hadn’t played a single chord on guitar in forty minutes, he just gazed at Anthony, his perfectly curly dark hair, his constant slight smile, his piercing blue eyes looking right at Coy.
Shit shit shit he’d seen Coy staring at him, Anthony started walking over and he felt his stomach flip and his chest tighten.
“Hey, you good?” He placed his hand on Coy’s back for a second too long before pulling away.
“Mhm.” Coy shuffled away from him, trying to make the interaction less awkward and failing miserably.
“You sure? You seem kinda out of it.”
“Just tired.”
“If you say so.”
Anthony started walking away but at that point their music teacher, Miss Everson (known for selling drugs to her students - it’s a long story) came up behind Anthony.
“Boys! How would you two like to work on a project for me?”
They stayed silent and looked at one another unsure of what to say.
“Just you two don’t worry, I need some acts for the summer concert next month and you’re my highest performing students.”
“Sure,” Anthony cut through the tense atmosphere like a knife, “I’m fine as long as Coy is.”
God, the way he said his name felt so right, Coy wanted it to only ever be spoken by Anthony, the way he dragged out the y and made the o 100 times sweeter, if only Anthony could say his name forever-
“Coy?” his voice snapped him back to focus.
“Yeah?” he couldn’t seem to look away from Anthony’s lips, silently begging him to start talking again.
“Do you wanna do the project?”
“Yeah yeah that’s fine with me- I mean not that it’s not good with me I mean-“
“Okay,” Anthony laughed to himself, Coy made him laugh he felt like he was gonna die then and there, “you can come over to mine today and we can start on it if you want?”
“Yeah that sounds great!”
“I’ll meet you outside your math class.”
Anthony came to his math class as soon as the bell rang, how did he know which class was his?
“Anthpo!”
Because it was Hanbon’s too.
Since the beginning of high school, Anthony and Hanbon have been known to be friends, always going over to the other’s house and planning the biggest parties of the year.
Coy always felt a twang of jealousy seeing them together, but he never knew why. He could’ve felt like Bon was leaving him behind, but that felt more wrong. He never really figured out the source of his feelings.
“Bonnie, hey!” Anthony replied, his eyes searching for something behind her, “Coy, you still up for coming over?”
Coy walked up to the others, shrugging in response to Hanbon’s look of questioning. Her face changed slightly, but he knew Hanbon and what she was implying; Coy shook his head as subtle as he could manage.
“Bonnie, d’you want a ride home?” Anthony broke the silence, he kept doing stuff like that.
“Nah I’m good - I might go over to Will’s, he’s planning to get high before Shirley’s party even starts and I think someone should be there to control how much he has.”
Anthony laughed at that. The whole way back to Anthony’s house, Coy had that laugh on repeat in his mind. They talked about Will’s relationship with drugs and Coy listened intently to stories of what he’d done while high at parties over the past year.
“Well, this is my place.” Anthony said, gesturing to the massive house in front of him. Coy’s house was big but this? This was on a whole other level.
“Wanna come in?” Anthony laughed at him, he made him laugh, Coy was sure he died and ascended up to heaven at that very moment.
“Uh- yeah yeah sure.” he responded, stepping into the house and looking in awe at the amount of paintings and photos patterned around the hallway.
“My parents are out so we can do whatever really, I mean we can work on the project obviously but there’s no limits to stuff.”
Coy nodded along, focused on taking in all of the bright colours around him.
“We can go up to my room and start the project now if you want?” Anthony started walking up the staircase - again heavily decorated walls.
“Yeah that sounds good, what sort of song would we make?” Coy followed behind.
“I mean we could always do a love song, everyone’s a sucker for love songs.”
Coy felt his heart flutter at that, “Yeah, who doesn’t like a good love song?”
