Thomas and their beloved Azure were sitting under a willow tree on a hill, surrounded by nightshade flowers. The two loved this place more than anything. Azure was reading aloud for the both of them.
Thomas leaned against Azure, watching the botanist read. Their gaze shifted to look at his face. He was pretty with his large hat that hid his purple eyes, his brown hair with a single braid at the front, his bright white skin slightly tainted from the earth… how had they gotten someone so beautiful in their life?
Thomas thought for a moment, their tail twitching, then, suddenly, they shifted position to reach Azure’s cheek, kissing it softly. The botanist stopped his reading.
“A-Ah! Thomas… what was that for?...” His voice had no malice, his cheeks were tinted pink as he giggled softly, Thomas loved his laugh…
“I just wanted to kiss you.” They smiled and curled closer to him, their tail wrapping around his thigh.
They wanted to tell him something, but they were afraid to… what if he hated them?
Thomas was nonbinary, they hadn’t come out yet though, to anyone; the higher-ups, their mentor, anyone close to them, and not even their own boyfriend… The village had never really thought of identifying differently, they were already somewhat seen differently for dating someone of their same biological gender. They doubted that Azure would break up with them just for their identity, but they couldn’t help but be afraid he would.
“What’s on your mind my love?” Thomas flinched at the sudden sound of Azure’s voice.
“O-Oh- yeah, I’m alright, it’s just…” they hesitated before sighing heavily, shifting to be in front of Azure, “I love you, more than anything… and I’m scared you’ll hate me…”
“Thomas.” His voice was firm, the kind he used when they did or said something stupid, “I love you more than anything too! I highly doubt that after almost 2 years of dating I’ll break up with you over a small secret. Seriously, as long as it isn’t murder, I’m okay with whatever it is, dearest.”
Thomas stayed silent for a moment before taking a steadying breath, then looked up to their beloved, “I’m not a guy, Az… I- I prefer going by they/them pronouns…”
Azure stayed quiet and Thomas prepared for the worst, but Azure just laughed softly, “Seriously? That’s it?” He took a moment to control his giggles “Thomas… I love you for you, not your identity. Oh you idiot, you actually had me scared you did something that was a crime!”
Thomas blushed deeply out of embarrassment as Azure set the book down and pulled them into a tight hug, they then smiled, burying into his chest, “You really don’t mind?...”
Azure shook his head, “Not at all, like I said, I’m not with you because of your gender, I’m with you because I love you.”
“Seriously, what did I do to deserve you?...” they let out a relieved sigh as they leaned heavily against him.
The two lovers stayed comfortably against each other, Azure’s back pressed against the large willow tree whilst Thomas remained against his chest. After a moment, he reached for some nightshades- the non-deadly kind- and wove them into a flower crown, mixing in some white daisies in with the purple star-like flowers before putting the crown on Thomas’s head. Thomas smiled and looked up grateful at Azure before sitting up, backing off his lap.
“Right, by the way Az…” they hesitated, waiting to be sure Azure was listening, “It’s not that I don’t like my name… It’s just- sometimes it doesn’t feel right… I’m not sure what to do about it…”
Azure thought for a moment, tugging Thomas back against his chest, “Hmmm, well, how about I call you something different?”
“Okay… but what would you call me?” They didn’t fight the tugging, wrapping their tail around his wrist.
Azure raised a hand to pet their hair, thinking, “Well, you’ll be getting a second life soon, and this is like changing your identity, so how about Two Time? I think it suits you well.”
Thomas- no, Two Time seemed to brighten up at that, their pointed ears flicking in interest, “I… I like it! I like it alot! I-I’d love for you to call me Two Time…”
Azure smiled, “Alright then! Two Time it is, my love!” the two laughed softly as Azure pulled them closer, “And don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone about this until you’re ready…”
That afternoon, under the willow tree upon the hill of flowers that overlooked the town, a young follower of the Spawn was born anew, a deep bond strengthened furthermore, and a promise that would be kept for as long as necessary was made. Things were looking good for the young lovers who hoped that they would remain together forever.
…
They wouldn't
