Work Text:
The pool was dark; the only sounds heard was from cars passing by in the distance, and the chirping of crickets. She knew the pool was off limits this time of the night, but after the day and evening she had had, she needed the calm a swim would give her. Alex dove in; the first couple of lengths were easy to swim, her body began relaxing, and she felt the tension washing off.
“You don’t listen.”
Alex stopped and looked up, a familiar face was standing on the other side of the pool. Marissa’s face was only lit up by the soft moonlight. Alex looked in her direction, and she saw the moonlight reflecting in the pool too. There was something about seeing Marissa, dressed in a simple light dress, and it looked even brighter in the moonlight. Alex slowly began to swim towards her, she had one goal, to reach the other end.
“That’s coming from the right person,” she said as she was close enough. She watched Marissa take a seat on the ground, her dress pulled up around her waist and her legs dangling in the water.
“I’m only here because you are.” Marissa smiled at her, “and I wanted to make sure that someone wasn’t breaking and entering.”
“I’m not one for doing that,” Alex said. She placed her arms on the edge, resting on them as she looked over to Marissa. “And I’m a great listener.”
Marissa raised an eyebrow, challenging Alex, “I don’t know about that.”
“Fine,” Alex laughed, “I’m a great listener when I want to be.” She smiled, her head tilted to the side, her gaze on Marissa. “So I know why I’m here tonight. Why are you here?”
It was an easy question to answer, and she was sure that Alex already knew the answer to it. “I wanted to see you again.”
“You just wanted to see me all wet and dripping around you.” Alex pushed herself up from the pool, she stood up. A small pool of water formed around her feet as she pushed her hair back. She reached for her towel; she began to dry herself off.
“Like you aren’t always wet around me,” Marissa replied, a small smirk playing over her lips, an eyebrow raised, challenging Alex to say something else.
“I could say the same about you,” Alex said. She walked over to Marissa; she held out her hands for Marissa to take. Alex laced their fingers together as she helped Marissa up. “And I’m not going to argue with you about the fact that you make me wet.”
Marissa smiled, and she leaned forward, her forehead pressed against Alex’s. “I know.” She let go of one of Alex’s hands, and she cupped her chin with her hand, she felt Alex lean into the touch. “But are you okay?”
“I’m okay,” Alex whispered. “it was just a long day, with a lot of things that didn’t go as planned.”
“I’m sorry.” Marissa placed a soft, gentle kiss against Alex’s lips. “I know you had to spend the day with my mother.” A breath left Marissa’s lips. “And I know that’s not what you expected when you signed up for working security for my dad.”
“No, not your mom for sure,” Alex replied, “and I didn’t think I would be working with you either.” She smiled, and she ran along Marissa’s back. “It seems like your dad thought that I would be able to handle Julie Cooper.”
“He can’t even handle her.” Marissa shook her head, “but I don’t want to talk about my parents right now, or your job.” She closed the gap between them, she took Alex’s lips between her own, tugging on Alex’s lower lip. Her arm tightened around her. Marissa pressed their bodies closer. She felt Alex’s damp swimwear against her, her own dress was getting wet too. She didn’t care about that, not when she stood with Alex, kissing her, in the soft moonlight.
Alex pulled away from the kiss, a gentle smile on her lips. She trailed a finger along Marissa’s lip. “Let me get dressed and get my things.” She squeezed Marissa's hand. “And we can get out of here, either I take you home, or you can come back to mine for a bit.”
“You know the answer to that.” Marissa let out a soft breath. She wrapped both of her arms around Alex, she pulled her in for a hug; she nuzzled her nose against Alex’s neck. “Back to yours, because we can’t do what I want to do back home.”
Alex hummed and nodded her head, “Okay, and I know it’s not as private when we’re at the Cooper residence.”
“It’s even worse now,” Marissa mumbled, “since they are assuming that something is going on between us, but they don’t know, know, if you know what I mean.”
“That was a lot of knows,” Alex laughed, “but I get it. We’ll get back to mine and you can hopefully do what you wanted to do.”
“Oh, I’m planning on it,” Marissa said, “and I’m also staying the night because I have a lot of plans that might take longer than a couple of hours.” She stole a quick kiss. “So you better save your energy and make sure that you aren’t too tired.”
“I could never be too tired for you.”
Alex grabbed her things, and threw the bag over her shoulder. She took Marissa’s hand in her own, and she walked them towards her car. She was looking forward to seeing what plans Marissa had, Alex knew she would be happy even if it was the two of them cuddling on the couch watching movies. Those moments might be her favorites, because they could just be and shut the rest of the world out.
