Work Text:
William wisp had been missing for a full day. By deadwood standers, he was dead. Even his friends didn't know where he went off to. The police said it was just a teen being rebellious. with that, his fate was sealed, well, that's what everyone thought. "Poor wisp kid... shame his parents had to lose him so soon." It was almost embarrassing how fast they all gave up.
William wisp was found passed out at a trail starter by Norah Fleetwood 34 hours and 10 minutes after he disappeared (she was keeping track). He was coverd in blood and he seemed to have no memory of what had happened when he woke up. The doctors said it was likely to be a brain injury, the doctors also couldn't find much damage and had no idea how so much of his own blood was on him with no major cuts. The only real problem found, his heart beat was much fainter than it should be.
The doctors didn't see the way the light bounced off his eyes, his friends however, very much did.
Isaac, Lou,and Norah were unsure where to start. They always did this stuff in Wills basement, he was also always better at seeing what they couldn't. They didn't even know if what came back was William. It looked like him, but he was so spacy. It couldn't be like last time. Lou got rid of the book and only he knew where it was. His eyes didn't look dead either, the just looked so blue. They needed more information, and the only way to do that was to talk to Will. They had to be careful, if anyone could see through them it would be Will... even if he was possessed.
"Hey Mrs Wisp, is William home?" Norah was who they sent up first at the door, she had this odd power of adults liking her. She was the best bet they had at saving William. "Oh, of course, it's so nice to have you all over after everything. Williams been so, off lately... I bet he'll be happy to see you." They were in, it was time to gather Intel. "Do you kids want any cookies? Just bring one down for William." "Yes Mam, thank you very much."
Walking twords the door, Norah stoped them from opening the door by holding up a finger. She pressed her ear up against the door to the basement. William was muttering, (a bit incoherently) to himself. Norah couldn't make out what it meant, suddenly the muttering stopped and she heard some shuffling. "What'd you hear?" Lou whispered over, "not sure? Let's just go down." William was sitting on the couch, his eyes looked unfocused. He was stareing off in a corner, he didn't even fully seem to notice them enter. He was still looking off twords the woods... "Will?" Isaac was the first to speak, William seemed to slightly break out of what every trance he was in. "Huh? Oh, y-yeah what?" He brought up a hand to his face. "Are you okay Will?" "Im..." he looked back twords the forest, his eyes looked a bit to blue again. He muttered something to himself "no, its- I'm fine, just." "Will, arenyou going to try an go back I the forest?" This time it was Lou. William pailed slightly, "I have- I have to..." "Will, i- no! last time you came out coverd in your own blood!? Something is clearly messing with your mind." "You don't understand, I lost something important. I need it back, I can't remember. It's important!" He sounded desperate. "William, your eyes are fucking glowing right now, we can't let you go back man." Isaac was really trying to keep his voice down, he was so scared. He was so close to losing a friend, again, It just kept happening.
"What if we let him." "Norah, what?!" Isaac hissed back. "Well we can't just tie him to the table! It sure didn't works last time. Obviously we're not having him go alone, we go with him and make sure a demon won't harvest his organs." "So, if something is there we all walk into a trap?" "What other choice do we have?" "Something other than that!" "Well I'm not-"
"I'll go." Lou said, more like a statement than an offer. "I'm better at seeing stuff like that and still keeping my head. If we don't get back in an hour, you guys can get help." "We said not more splitting up Lou." "If we all go with then we're putting us all I more danger." The light bounced off his glasses "I trust he won't hurt us but... I'm not going to say the same for whatever did that to him. We'll go and you guys make sure his parents done find out." "O-ok, I trust both of you, don't either of you dare die."
Lou stopped at his house on the way to the forest. He came out with a backpack and Will was already walking wherever he needed to go. It was almost peaceful at first, Lou could just pretend to be on a walk with his friend, then the lights started. William was I'm front so he only caught small glimpses before they vanished. He had head about these things before, he knew he had, it was on the tip of his tounge and it was important. He recognized the path they where taking, its was twords the cliff (they only had one in deadwood) the closer they got the more he noticed it, William was glowing. Lou started to move his backpack down as subtly as he could. Right at the edge of the cliff, worryingly at the edge. William fell to his knees, Lou set down his backpack and zipped it open just a little before walking over to William.
"Will?" "I-i forgot... how could I, how could I forget that!" "Forget what." William looked over at him, they where both shaking (though will much more) "Lou, i-im dead." Lou pushed himself towards his backpack as fast as he could, ripping a worthy knife from his bag. Will stood up "you said you got rid of that." "How, how are you-" "I dont know Lou, please, put down the knife. I want to know how as much as you." "So are you a ghost know? How did you even die?" The knife was still I his hand but it was lower. "No? Maybe? I think fell but something, saved me?" Lou sat up
"THE WISPS!" "Wh-" "the wisps will! Theu lead travelers astray and sometimes to treasure or to doom. They lead you here that's why you eyes where so wrong, they didn't mess with you head they just lead you back to what you forgot!" Lou was fully standing, he tried to put his hands in wills sholders but they fell through. "William, I am so intrigued and terrified at the same time." "Your hands are phasing through me." "I think your body is phasing through my hands." "Can we deal with this tomorrow, please, Im going to throw up." Lou put the knife back in his bag, will kept his eyes on it the whole time. If he still had this... no, no that was thoughts for later. That was a conversation for later. For now he was going home and trying to remember.
