Chapter Text
Ever since Gary’s father’s synthesizer was taken accountable of and destroyed purposely as assassination, it’s been a rough track for him. He had to experience that moment when he was still a child. The scene happened so fast, he couldn’t physically take it in; and at that age, he truly didn’t know what was happening to his father and thinking he was just disappearing temporarily.
Ever since that incident happened, his mother decided it was best to move on and probably find a new mate. She couldn’t let Synthos crumble from her depression, thinking she needs to come back stronger.
When Gary was in his early teenager years, his mother partnered with another male Synthezien, eventually marrying him and making him Gary’s stepfather. Little time later, they had a child together, forming David.
Due to his guardians busy schedule of being queen and king, he took responsibility of David and hung out with him. He’d often teach David his own ways of doing harmonies on his synthesizer or telling stories about his father before his physical form was permanently wiped out, though Gary never mentioned his death.
The weird thing about David was that he never really appreciated Gary that much and often tried to mess with his synthesizer. David apparently was jealous of him but never wanted to show it, other people thought that he was still young and didn’t know better.
When Gary was reaching his late teenage years, his guardians sent him down to earth for a proper education. They left him with multiple warnings, hoping he doesn’t get himself killed down there. They suggested to Gary that he should take his synthesizer with him down to earth considering if they were busy and David messes with his synthesizer again, they wouldn’t notice and he could probably kill Gary and his physical appearance could get rid of forever. Though his guardians don’t know how much worse earthlings are; surprisingly, Gary makes it out of there and succeeds with a proper education.
He made some comrades down at earth like Samson, Reginald and other large babies, and Walks. Gary never told them about the histories of Synthos but Samson to which he was platonically closest to.
In his early 20s, he was offered to become king of Synthos to which he accepted and eventually developing his magic powers. David upon seeing this, got jealous really quickly and decided to disregard Gary. He’d always try to interact with David but he would dismissively push Gary away and very rarely says a word back to him.
Despite this sibling rivalry, Gary never stopped caring for him while also still taking responsibility of David. At least for now.. He always senses something off about David, like he’s planning something to do to Gary.
Eventually, their guardians went to retire and leaving
In Gary’s early 40s, he was sent a letter by the guardians of eternal youth which includes Reginald for him to join with them as being guardians. Though, Gary is very conflicted by this, debating whether he should join the guardians or keep ruling Synthos.
In surprise, Gary accepts the offer of joining the guardians but only temporarily. He would never want to abandon his home planet and leave it in ruins. This also encourages him to travel the galaxies more and explore them, giving him a chance to see other planets.
While packing up to travel the galaxies and go to the guardians of eternal youths palace, David walks in into his room.
“Gareth, what in the world are you doing?” He curiously asks, rarely interacting with him. Gary swiftly moves his head to look at David with those blank star eyes. He sighs and has to break the news to David; he explains in his calming voice:
“David, my half brother. I’m.. I’m moving out to travel the galaxies and join the guardians of eternal youth temporarily.” David raises an eyebrow, wondering why Gary is doing this in the first place.
“And why are you doing this?” David asks, feeling a bit doubtful and suspicious. Gary feels a bit guilty for leaving Synthos for no one to rule for now. He answers David’s questions, setting his hands behind his back.
“It’s a chance for me to travel the galaxies and explore new planets.. like us..” Gary rests his hand on David’s shoulder. David’s expression hardens with discomfort from the touch but doesn’t make a move to pull away, trying to stay dependent.
Gary moves away from David so he could continue packing, organizing his possessions perfectly. The two brothers stand there in a consuming silence.
“Are you going to come back anytime soon?” David asks, breaking the silence. Gary slowly turns around and looks at his half brother, giving David the blank look that makes him imitated and uneasy.
“Yes, I will come back.. like I said, I’m staying there temporarily. I won’t be gone forever.” Gary answers, sounding calm and a bit insensitive. After packing up, Gary leaves one more rule for David:
“Remember, David. During my absence, do not claim my throne to rule. I’m still the one ruling here and you know that.” Gary then waves to David in farewell and then with a snap of Gary’s fingers, he vanishes to his El Camino parked outside of the palace.
David sighs in a mix of relief and awkwardness, proceeding to walk to the hallways of the Synthos palace.
He stops in his tracks when he looks at a large family picture of his mother, father, Gareth, and him as a child. Looking up at it, he realizes the blank stares and those bright star eyes that you could look at all day on their faces, including David’s.
David’s neutral expression shifts into anger at the sight of Gary. He thinks that his insensitive and calm tone was screaming at David saying “I’m lying and I’m going to leave forever” which isn’t the case but David doesn’t believe that, he just loathes his half brother.
Even though Gary told him not to rule in his absence, he completely blocks that part out and neglects it. He continues walking with clenched fists by his side in a mix of determination and wrath. David mutters under his breath:
“If you won’t rule, Gareth. Then I will.”
