Work Text:
“There was a kidnapping on our island. And there is strong evidence that you did, in fact, kidnap someone,” Ewroon says with a straight face.
I don’t know if he thought I was going to agree with him, or cooperate with his silly delusions. I don’t know if he had an inkling as to what it was to be in my position right now, listening to him blatantly accuse me without any sort of evidence. I don’t know if he had any idea what was rushing through my mind, a woman who had multiple businesses to run. I don’t know if he knew how much time I was wasting by just sitting here, listening to him run his mouth.
I didn’t know any of that but there was one thing I knew.
I knew that he was a liar, a storyteller, a conniving manipulator. I knew that he was pissing me off right at this second, looking at his smug face. That stupid smug face of his. The way he said I kidnapped someone. He said it without any hesitation, without any thought.
Without any thought.
I decided to laugh in his face.
“Don’t hate me, I’m just a messenger. I’m just a postman, you know. I'm just letting you know that the people are saying stuff,” he rambles on.
“Show me the evidence.”
“I don’t have any evidence.”
I look at him. He looks back at me.
“People are saying that I kidnapped someone!? I dare them to try me. I don't even know the first step of kidnapping— I don’t even know what was kidnapped, I don't even damn near know how to make a chest, let alone kidnap someone?”
He gets up from the therapy seat and heads for the door, shouting behind his back, “Oh, so you think you can’t kidnap someone, right?”
I stand up as well, right on his tail, following him to the door. Ewroon shakes the doorknob multiple times, banging against the door. “The door is locked! I’m being kidnapped right now!”
I roll my eyes and open the door, staring at him pointedly through my glasses. As if to tell him, are you serious right now? Are you actually acting like this right now? In my therapy office? Was this needed? Did he want to waste my time? Did he actually want to do this to me?
“You want to know what you kidnapped?”
He stops. Turns towards me.
“You kidnapped my heart.”
As soon as the words came out of my mouth I wanted to grab the letters and slam them back where they came from.
“Wait. I did what?” He gets closer. “I kidnapped your heart?”
“No… like in a bad way…”
“Aww!”
“No, in a bad way— In a bad way I said. Did you hear what I said?”
But he wasn’t listening. He was already moving back into my office, smiling in my face. His eyes were twinkling and his mouth was pulled into the biggest smile I’ve ever seen from him. Was he blushing? Was he really blushing right now?
“I-In a bad way,” I repeat in a small voice.
“You’re such a cutie, you know,” he says, that stupid smile still plastered on his face. “So we’re still friends?”
I purse my lips and think for a minute. He peers into my face and I push him away. “Well. Give me the netherite, and then we can be friends.”
“I will see what I can do.”
