Work Text:

Atsumu never wanted to get married, well he imagined it like everyone else but never saw it happening for himself. He was a ladies man in highschool. But during his third year his whole life flipped over. He was being married off, for money. He didn’t even have a choice, his mom randomly told him after a rough practice and he couldn’t protest.

He was married off to the Sakusa family, to Kiyoomi Sakusa. He had met him at training camps but didn’t actually know him. The Sakusa’s wanted Kiyoomi to carry on the family name. So after graduation he was thrown into marriage preparations. His first real conversation with Kiyoomi was on their wedding day. Kiyoomi apologized for the inconvenience, but promised to give Atsumu a good life.

The two were not in love, far from it. When the two first got married it was awkward. They were two strangers that lived in the same house and shared a name. It took Atsumu a while to adjust but the two are on better terms nowadays. For the first few years Kiyoomi spent most of his time at college, Atsumu spent days training and he immediately joined the MSBY jackals.

Kiyoomi made good on his promise, Atsumu never had to worry about money, food or anything. Atsumu had a place to stay, a constant stream of money and everything he could want. So yes, he did get used to being married. When Atsumu joined the jackals he debated using his birth name.

Kiyoomi said it was alright, it was refreshing to be known as Atsumu Miya again. No one on the team knew he was married or that he was apart of the Sakusa family. It was a little awkward when Kiyoomi ended up joining the team but they had a silent agreement that they wouldn’t tell the team. Kiyoomi’s parents obviously ended up asking why they were using different names on the court.

Kiyoomi had explained that it was more professional that way, two athletes dating on the same team could seem scandalous. They accepted it and moved on.

“Tsumu! we’re going to eat! Wanna come?” Bokuto asks as he and Hinata come strolling over to Atsumu’s locker. Atsumu nods with a smile “Yeah!” He agrees. The pair cheers and Atsumu tries to rush getting ready. “Hey Omi! Do you want to come!?” Hinata asks as he turns to Kiyoomi. Kiyoomi glares at him and pulls his mask up “Absolutely not.” He replies and turns back to his locker.

“Awe! Come on! You never come out with us! This place is real clean I promise!” Bokuto says pleadingly. “Clean? By your standards? I doubt it.” Kiyoomi replies and shuts his locker. Atsumu shakes his head as he finishes packing up and hikes his duffle bag on his shoulder, Kiyoomi doesn’t like going out to restaurants, other then a select few that are “kiyoomi approved”.

“It’s fine, let’s just get going.” Atsumu says. The two sulk but nod. The three go to leave the locker room, Kiyoomi gives Atsumu a look and Atsumu nods in understanding. The three walk down the sidewalk “I’m so glad we have a break!” Hinata says at he stretches. “Are ya’ going to see Tobio?” Atsumu asks with a snicker.

Hinata blushes “Maybe.” He replies. “I’m going to see Akaashi! Oh man i miss him so much!” Bokuto says with a pout. “Don’t sulk, you’ll see him soon.” Atsumu says as he pats Bokuto’s back. “Why don’t you have a boyfriend Tsumu? I could set you up with somebody.” Hinata asks. Atsumu grimaces “I’m not going out with anybody you know, they’re all crazy.” He says.

Bokuto laughs and Hinata huffs “You haven’t even tried! Aren’t you tired of third wheeling?” Hinata asks. Atsumu always ends up hanging out with Hinata, Bokuto and their partners “Wouldn’t that be fifth wheeling?” Bokuto asks. Atsumu deadpans “I don’t need a partner. Going out with you guys is enough.” He says.

“We know! We just don’t want you dying alone!” Bokuto says. “I ain’t gonna die alone!” Atsumu argues and Bokuto snickers. The three arrive at the restaurant, it’s a small place not too far from the gym, a place they frequent regularly. “It’s so sad though! Everyone else on the team has someone!” Hinata says as they sit down.

“Sakusa doesn’t.” Bokuto says. Hinata shakes his head “Apparently he does, i saw him wearing a ring the other day.” Hinata says. Atsumu grimaces, he didn’t know that Kiyoomi had forgotten to take his ring off at home. “He’s married!?” Bokuto asks in surprise. Hinata nods “Yeah! I did some digging and he got married young!” He says.

Atsumu freezes, how in the world did Hinata figure that out. “I wonder who he’s married to.” Bokuto says. Hinata shrugs “I couldn’t find a name but anyways, what i’m saying is that everyone is taken but you!” Hinata says as he turns to Atsumu. Atsumu waves his hand “Whatever, i still have time. I’m still young after all.” He replies.

“Yeah i guess so…” Hinata says. The three order their food and chat about random nonsense. Atsumu tries to rack his brain on how Hinata had found that information in the first place. He knows that Sakusa’s family is a big deal in Tokyo but you’d have to do some serious digging to find that crap.

The three eat their meals and head out. “You still hungry?” Hinata asks. Atsumu carries a takeout box in a plastic bag “Yeah, Late night snack.” He says. The two nod and keep talking. Great, now Atsumu seems like a fatass. Atsumu parts from the two and after a train ride he makes it home.

He walks in and takes his shoes off. “I could’ve picked you up, now you’re all gross.” Kiyoomi says as he turns to corner to the genkan. “Yeah, yeah. I’m jumping in the shower right away anyways.” Atsumu replies as he holds out the bag. Kiyoomi takes the bag and runs off to the kitchen. Atsumu goes upstairs and takes a quick shower.

He walks back downstairs and Kiyoomi is on the couch eating his food. “What’s the plan for the break?” Atsumu asks as he opens the fridge. “Whatever you want to do. my mother hasn’t said anything about a visit.” Kiyoomi replies. Atsumu nods as he takes a drink from the fridge. “Alright, I’m gonna go visit Osamu then, wanna come?” Atsumu asks as he walks over to the couch and leans over the back.

Kiyoomi stops eating and thinks for a moment “You just want a ride.” He says. Atsumu presses his lips together and nods. Kiyoomi sighs “I’ll come then. When are we leaving?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu shrugs “Does tomorrow morning work?” He asks. Kiyoomi nods “Okay.” He replies. Atsumu nods and leaves the living room. That’s all he’s getting from Kiyoomi for the rest of the night.

Atsumu heads upstairs to his room. Kiyoomi and Atsumu sleep in separate rooms, they’re not romantically entangled in the slightest. They were complete strangers at first but over the years they’ve learned to respect each other and can hold a friendly conversation. Actually they were a bit hostile to eachother, they didn’t get along great in highschool.

Atsumu can say he never hated the guy, he resented him for a bit when they first got married. He felt like he got his life stripped away at first. But now he’s content, he’s gotten used to this life. Kiyoomi seems to have adjusted too and they get along better now. Atsumu texts his brother and tells him he’s coming up to Tokyo for a bit to visit.

Kiyoomi picked out the hotel, Atsumu said they could stay at Osamu’s but he’s a bit picky with cleanliness. The hotel was close enough to Osamu’s and the restaurant so he just accepted it. “Samu!” Atsumu cheers as he opens the door to the shop. “Tsumu.” Osamu says. Atsumu rushes over and gives Osamu a big hug.

“You could’ve given me more warning that you were coming to Tokyo. I could’ve cleaned my place up.” Osamu says. “It’s fine, we have a room at a hotel nearby.” Kiyoomi says as he walks up. Atsumu lets go of Osamu and nods “Yeah, we’re nearby.” He says. Osamu sighs “Alright but you two are coming over fer’ dinner tonight.” Osamu says.

“Obviously, where’s sunarin?” Atsumu asks as he and Kiyoomi sit down on some barstools. “Somewhere around here.” Osamu says, then walks into the back kitchen. Osamu knows about his marriage, everyone knows but his teammates. “This place is cute.” Kiyoomi says as he looks around. “You say that everytime we come here, also don’t say that in front of Samu.” Atsumu says with a sigh.

“Right. He doesn’t want “cute”.” Kiyoomi says with an eye roll. Atsumu snickers “Samu wants classy, you know like 5 star restaurants.” He explains. Kiyoomi deadpans “How classy can you get with an onigiri place?” He asks. “Exactly. But don’t say that infront of him.” Suna says as he walks up to them.

“Heya rin, is yer team on break too?” Atsumu asks. Suna nods and takes a seat beside him “Yeah, Sakusa, your cousin is in town too.” Suna says. Kiyoomi grimaces “Oh god.” He mutters. “Komori ain’t that bad! You could at least text him and see what he’s up to.” Atsumu says as he points to Kiyoomi’s phone.

Kiyoomi sighs “I suppose.” He says. “You gave up quick.” Suna comments and laughs. Osamu comes back out from the back and takes his apron off “I’m taking the rest of the day off. Let’s do something.” He says. “Like what?” Atsumu asks as he gets up from his seat. “I dunno, shopping? I need food for dinner.” Osamu answers. They all follow him out of the restaurant.

They all drive to the grocery store separately and look around together. “This can’t be healthy.” Kiyoomi says as he looks at something on a shelf. Atsumu shakes his head “Definitely not, but it’s delicious.” He says and takes it. Kiyoomi grimaces at him “It’s just a snack! It won’t kill me, call it cheat day.” Atsumu says and tosses it into their basket. Osamu and Suna ended off splitting off from them to find something to make for dinner.

“What did you want to do while we’re in Tokyo?” Atsumu asks, as the two walk around. “It would probably be best to stop by my parents estate while we’re here.” Kiyoomi answers. Atsumu frowns but nods, it’s not like he hates the Sakusa family, he gets along great with Kiyoomi’s siblings, their spouses and his parents. He’s just kind of not in the mood to pretend like he’s in love with Kiyoomi.

“It won’t be long, i don’t want to see them either.” Kiyoomi says with a sigh. “yeah sure, you know they’ll make us stay for a while.” Atsumu says and Kiyoomi frowns through his mask. The two are by the fridges that hold all the frozen crap. “Atsumu.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu looks at Kiyoomi, he’s staring down the aisle. Atsumu looks over and then freezes.

It’s Bokuto, with Akaashi. Akaashi lives in Tokyo and Bokuto said he was going to visit him over the break, why didn’t he think this would happen. The two don’t have time to react before Bokuto is staring right at them and waving “Tsumu! Omi!” He yells. Atsumu looks over at Kiyoomi as he hears Bokuto start walking towards them “Take off yer’ ring.” Atsumu says. The two quickly take off their rings and shove them in their pocket.

“Wow! I didn’t think i’d see you two here!” Bokuto says. Atsumu turns around and smiles “Bokkun! I just saw you yesterday, you missed me so much you followed me here!” Atsumu jokes and gives him a hug. “It’s strange seeing you two together, what are you guys doing in Tokyo?” Akaashi says.

Atsumu glares at Akaashi, curse him for asking, even wondering. “Yeah, I’m surprised! I didn’t know you two even got along.” Bokuto says as he releases Atsumu. “I just came to visit Samu! I just ran into Omi aswell.” Atsumu says nervously. Kiyoomi nods slowly “Yeah… I came to visit my parents.” He explains.

“That’s cool! Hey! We should get dinner together!” Bokuto suggests enthusiastically. “Sakus-“ Osamu says as he and Suna turn the corner but he goes quiet. “Oh! You’re here with Osamu.” Bokuto says. Osamu and Suna walk over “Been awhile.” Osamu says as a greeting. “I was saying that we should get dinner, do you two wanna come!?” Bokuto asks excitedly.

“We’re actually having dinner at my place, you two are more than welcome to come.” Osamu says. Bokuto nods eagerly “Of course!” He says and Akaashi nods in agreement. “This meeting is strange, I wanna leave.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu turns to him with a frown “We still have to checkout.” He says as he holds up the basket.

“Hey Sakusa, i was gonna ask if this was the brand you liked.” Osamu asks as he holds up a package. Kiyoomi nods “Oh! Omi is coming too!?” Bokuto asks. “If we manage to get back and clean the place quick enough.” Suna answers sarcastically. Kiyoomi glares at him “We’re leaving.” Kiyoomi says and grabs Atsumu’s arm. Atsumu waves “Okay, we’ll see you later!” Atsumu waves as Kiyoomi drags him towards the checkout.

“I was under the impression that they bumped into eachother.” Akaashi mutters. Osamu rubs his forehead and Suna leans closer to Osamu “For people hiding their marriage they’re pretty bad at it.” He whispers and Osamu nods.

“It’s just Bokkun and Akaashi. I don’t get it.” Atsumu says as he shoves their grocery bags into the car. “Exactly. He’s way too loud.” Kiyoomi says as he climbs into the car. Atsumu shrugs and gets into the car. “We have time to kill before we go over for dinner, what do you want to do?” He asks. Kiyoomi starts driving “Probably get some rest. Feels like we’ve been on the go all day.” He replies. Atsumu nods and looks out of the window.

Looking out the window like this reminds him of his early days being married to Kiyoomi.

After getting married and getting settled into their new house, Atsumu spent his time staring out of the window of their dining room. It overlooked the neighborhood, the street full of cars constantly passing by. He felt trapped. So he just stared, hoping for something, anything to happen.

Kiyoomi would sometimes look over at Atsumu, with sadness. It was depressing, he was depressed. He would go hours, days without moving. “What are you looking at?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu shrugs and leans his head against the window “The street.” He answers. Kiyoomi nods and looks at the ground “Do you like the window?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu nods “I wish it were bigger.” Atsumu comments.

Kiyoomi said nothing else and walked away. A few days later the window has been replaced, a bigger and clearer window took its place, with a cushion on the window sil. It was a small gesture but it made Atsumu happier nonetheless. Atsumu spent more days at the window with occasional visits from Kiyoomi. “You should still persue volleyball.” Kiyoomi said one day while he was sitting with Atsumu.

Atsumu hadn’t known that was an option. From his perspective, his future had been decided for him. He was going to be married off, have children and take care of his family. “Is that really okay?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi nods “You can do whatever you please. As long as you’re happy.” He says. “What about your parents?” Atsumu asks and stares back out the window.

Kiyoomi goes silent for a bit “It’s fine. Don’t worry about that. I was the one who dragged you into this situation, you shouldn’t have to suffer so much.” He replies. That was the day Atsumu saw Kiyoomi for the first time. Kiyoomi was just like Atsumu, this was not the future he wanted. They were both pushed into it, but in the end they had to make the best of their circumstances.

“What are you looking at?” Kiyoomi asks, snapping Atsumu out of his daze. Atsumu smiles and leans his head against the window “Nothing, just thinking.” He answers. Kiyoomi nods and focuses on driving again. The two make it back to the hotel. Kiyoomi takes a shower and takes a nap. Atsumu stays up eating his snacks and watching the tv.

They share a hotel room but have separate beds. After a few hours Osamu calls him. Atsumu wakes Kiyoomi up and they start getting ready. “We should’ve got a gift.” Kiyoomi says as they climb the stairs to Osamu’s apartment. “We already saw them, plus i don’t get my brother gifts.” Atsumu says as they reach his apartment. Atsumu just walks right in and Kiyoomi follows him.

“Yer late.” Osamu scolds him from the kitchen. Atsumu laughs “Sorry, Omi took forever getting ready.” Atsumu replies and walks further into the apartment after he takes his shoes off. “You guys came together?” Akaashi asks from the dining table. Atsumu freezes, he totally forgot they were coming. Kiyoomi walks past him “That elevator needs to get fixed.” He comments as he puts his jacket down on a chair.

“Yeah we’ll magically fix the elevator.” Suna says sarcastically from the couch. Atsumu is still frozen but snaps out of it. “Sit down already!” Osamu yells and Atsumu scrambles to sit down. Bokuto is also sitting at the table smiling. Suna and Kiyoomi sit down and Osamu brings over the food.

Atsumu glares at Kiyoomi for being so casual about everything. Kiyoomi looks at him confused. “This is good! I can see why your restaurant is so popular!” Bokuto boasts as he eats his food. Osamu smiles in pride “I know, eat all you want.” He says. “quit it, you’ll make his ego larger then it already is.” Atsumu says as he points his chopsticks at Bokuto.

“Bigger than yours? Doubt it.” Suna jabs at him and everyone laughs. Atsumu slumps his shoulders “I should’ve just stayed home.” He says with a sigh. Kiyoomi kicks his leg under the table. Atsumu rubs his leg and glares at him “You’re supposed to be nice to the host.” He whispers.

“I don’t give a fuck about this host, he’s stupid.” Atsumu whispers back. Kiyoomi deadpans “That’s your twin brother.” He whispers back. Atsumu shrugs and goes back to eating his food. “Shoyo and Kageyama are coming to Tokyo soon too! We should all get together!” Bokuto cheers. Kiyoomi grimaces and so does Atsumu. “We’ll be busy with the shop.” Suna says. “I’ll be busy with the shop. You can go hangout with the jackals.” Osamu says and Suna deadpans.

“It’s so fun that we all came here on our time off!” Bokuto says. “I thought Tobio lived in italy, i thought Shokkun was in italy.” Atsumu asks. Bokuto nods “Yeah he does but Kageyama took time off to visit Shoyo.” He explains. “He asked them to come to Tokyo.” Akaashi explains and everyone nods. Atsumu grimaces, he was hoping to have a break, an actual break where he could be himself. He’ll have to keep hiding his marriage with all of these people around.

Kiyoomi doesn’t seem to have much interest in hiding it anymore. He keeps it all professional at practice and at games but like this, Kiyoomi is certain to slip. Atsumu forgot how hard it is to actually hide it. At practice it’s easy, they pretty much ignore eachother anyways. But in a more casual setting like this, it’s difficult. Atsumu considered telling the team, that it was arranged and that they weren’t actually in love.

But then Shoyo and Bokuto would get all mopey that he hadn’t found love so he gave up the idea entirely. The rest of the night is spent chatting and eating. After they finish eating they spend more time at the table just chatting. “I wanna go back.” Kiyoomi says to Atsumu. Atsumu nods tiredly “I think we’re gonna leave.” He says to Osamu.

They get up and hug the others goodbye. Atsumu promises to visit his brother tomorrow and the two head off. “You seem extra tired today.” Kiyoomi comments on the drive back to the hotel. Atsumu nods “Yeah, i think yer’ rubbing off on me.” He says. “How so?” Kiyoomi asks.

“I’m all for going out and socializing but that was a lot.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi snickers “Yeah that doesn’t sound like you.” He says. The two bicker the whole way back to the hotel. Kiyoomi doesn’t let him collapse into the bed, he forces him into the shower and then Atsumu peacefully sleeps in his bed.

The visit was nice. Atsumu spent lots of time with his brother. Kiyoomi did end up meeting with Komori, even ended up hanging out with him, Atsumu, Osamu and Suna. They did all meet up with Hinata and Kageyama one of the days. Kiyoomi managed to keep things under wrap and their trip was a success.

They’ve returned back to their house with a few more days of break left. Atsumu spends his time in his room, alone painting. Painting has always been a hobby of his, he wasn’t as passionate about it as volleyball but it was fun, even if he wasn’t that good. He never told anyone about this hobby, even Kiyoomi.

“Atsumu!” Kiyoomi yells. Atsumu deadpans at the door and puts down his brush. He takes off his smock and leaves the room. He goes downstairs where Kiyoomi is cowering in the corner of living room. “There’s a bug.” Kiyoomi explains. “Where?” Atsumu asks as he steps into the living room and looks around.

“I don’t know, it ran off.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu groans “Which direction?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi points towards the dining room. Atsumu walks over and starts looking around. “Could you at least tell me what bug i’m looking for!?” Atsumu shouts. “I don’t know, you figure it out!” Kiyoomi shouts back.

“Yer such a brat, how have you lived without me.” Atsumu says as he looks around. After a bit of looking he finds it. It’s a cockroach, not Atsumu’s favourite bug, far from it. He sucks it up though and catches it in his hands. He quickly runs over to a window and lets it out. Atsumu is okay with most bugs but he hates the big annoying ones.

But Kiyoomi is deathly afraid of bugs, thinks if one touches him he’ll die from the disease’s they carry. So Atsumu has been removing the bugs from their house all this time, which isn’t much thank god. Atsumu walks back into the living room “It’s gone.” He says. Kiyoomi lets out a sigh of relief and walks back over to the couch “Thank you.” He says.

“What do you want fer dinner?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi thinks while he sits back down “Anything is fine.” He replies. “Whatever i want to have then. I’m gonna go to the store then.” Atsumu says as he walks to the front door. “I’m taking yer car!” Atsumu yells as he grabs the keys. Kiyoomi’s silence means he doesn’t care.

Atsumu goes to and from the grocery store without issue. He also makes dinner for him and Kiyoomi. They don’t eat together though, Atsumu takes his dinner upstairs while Kiyoomi remains on the couch. Atsumu isn’t the best cook, not nearly as good as Osamu but he’s infinitely times better than Kiyoomi.

It’s probably one of the reasons Kiyoomi’s parents married him off. Atsumu goes back to painting. They spend the last few days of break like this, they stay inside, go to the store when needed and just relax. and then they get back to practice!

“It was so pretty! It looks better in person though.” Hinata says as he holds out his phone. Atsumu and Bokuto look at the photo Hinata is showing them. “I wanna go to Italy too!” Bokuto says with a pout. “We should definitely go sometime then.” Hinata says. “Yeah! Omi you wanna come to Italy with us?” Bokuto asks as he turns around.

Kiyoomi glares at him “No way.” Bokuto sulks and Atsumu pats his back “I don’t think we’d have time for Italy anytime soon.” He says. “Yeah you’re right.” Bokuto says dejectedly and stands back up. “Anyways, wanna get food?” Hinata asks. Bokuto immediately agrees but Atsumu grimaces “I think i’m just gonna head home. I took the break a little too seriously and didn’t train.” Atsumu explains.

“Oh no! If you need anything just tell us!” Hinata says and Bokuto nods. Atsumu smiles and nods. The three leave the building and chat for a bit outside. Atsumu was sore and tired, he knew he should’ve trained a bit over the break but he really just wanted to have fun and relax. Atsumu waves the two goodbye and starts walking. “What are you doing?” Kiyoomi asks.

Atsumu turns around to see Kiyoomi standing outside the building. “Walking?” Atsumu answers. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes “Come on, we’re going home.” He says and gestures for Atsumu to follow him. Atsumu is thankful he got a ride home and immediately collapses onto the couch when they return.

“You’re lucky you showered.” Kiyoomi says as he puts his bags down. Atsumu groans into the couch “You should just kill me, actually cut off my limbs.” Atsumu says. “You’re being dramatic.” Kiyoomi replies and walks into the hallway. Atsumu was being a little dramatic but his muscles were sore.

Kiyoomi walks back in the room with pain relief gel “Tell me where it hurts” He says. Atsumu sits up and holds out his arms “Mostly my biceps and thighs.” He says. Kiyoomi nods and starts applying the gel. Atsumu instantly feels relief. After Kiyoomi finishes up on his arms he reaches for the edge of Atsumu’s shorts. Atsumu flushes and slams his hands down “What are you doing?” He asks.

Kiyoomi looks at him confused “You said your thighs were sore too.” He says. Atsumu blushes even deeper and moves his hands “Oh right.” He says. Kiyoomi gives him a look then lifts his shorts up a bit. Kiyoomi starts rubbing the gel on his thighs. Atsumu watches as Kiyoomi grips at his thighs.

Atsumu and Kiyoomi weren’t touchy, werent even close to that. This is the most they’ve even touched. He’s a bit surprised that Kiyoomi is so willing to do this. It’s weird, he’s been married to the man for years now but doesn’t know how hands feel. They’ll touch on occasion but it’s always a nudge, yanking and occasionally a high five on the court.

Should he be hugging Kiyoomi? Atsumu hugs everyone else but his own husband. Oh god, was he a bad husband and friend? No, he knew Kiyoomi didn’t like being touched, by anyone so he shouldn’t over think it. “All done. You should stretch a bit when you can.” Kiyoomi says as he closes the cap to the gel.

Atsumu nods “Thanks.” He says. Kiyoomi nods and goes back down the hallway. Atsumu feels much better now, the gel isn’t a fix but it gives him relief. “What do you want for dinner?” Kiyoomi asks as he comes back into the room. Atsumu grimaces “I can still cook.” He says. Kiyoomi deadpans “I meant takeout. I wouldn’t dare touch the oven.” He replies.

Atsumu lets out a sigh of relief. “I think that place you like added more stuff to the menu.” He replies. Kiyoomi pulls out his phone and scrolls “Oh yeah.” He says. Atsumu nods, Kiyoomi only likes a few restaurants, this one happens to be his favourite. Kiyoomi walks over and shows him the new menu. Atsumu picks out what he wants and Kiyoomi orders the food.

Atsumu stays downstairs with Kiyoomi while they eat. They both catch up on the show they’ve been watching together while they eat. “Atsumu.” Kiyoomi says suddenly. Atsumu looks over at Kiyoomi and raises an eyebrow “I think it’s almost time we have children.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu chokes on his food and starts coughing.

Kiyoomi grabs a drink and hands it to him “This is why i didn’t want to bring it up.” He mutters. Atsumu stops coughing after a bit and calms down “Children? Now?” He asks. Kiyoomi sighs “My parents are demanding grandchildren. You knew it was going to happen sooner or later.” He replies. Atsumu nods and looks down at his hands.

He thought he had a few years left until they really settled down, had kids. “How would that even work?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi rubs his head “We’re both men. None of us are conceiving clearly.” He replies. Atsumu nods “But your parents want biological grandchildren.” He says. Kiyoomi nods “It would be with surrogacy.” He says and Atsumu nods along.

“This is a lot, do you even think we’re ready for children right now?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi bites his lip nervously “No…” He answers. Atsumu frowns “Hey, it’ll be alright. We can figure this out.” He says. Kiyoomi takes a deep breath and nods “Okay, yeah we’ll figure it out.” He says and Atsumu smiles.

The two thought it over for weeks. But in the end they knew what they had to do. They got married so they could carry on the Sakusa name. They began the process, it’s not an easy or cheap process. Kiyoomi’s parents were more than happy to send money their way, they were so excited when they informed them they were going to start trying.

They found a surrogate. The Sakusa’s picked her out, they were still in the process of actually getting her pregnant though, Kiyoomi did not like the process at all. With them having a baby, that meant they were going to have to tell the team and get time off when the baby did arrive. But before they could even do that.

“Is it too early to be shopping for baby stuff? We don’t even know the gender yet.” Atsumu says as he holds up a baby onsie. “Don’t touch that, you don’t know who put their hands on that. Also, we can just get gender neutral stuff for now.” Kiyoomi says as he hits the onsie out of his hands. There’s a flash behind them and the turn around, some random with a camera goes running off.

“Oh shit.” Atsumu says worriedly. “I knew we should’ve went somewhere more private, why the fuck are we at the most public department store?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu groans “Whatever, teammates can look at baby stuff. We’re fine.” He says. The two go back to shopping.

By that night the photo was circulating around on the internet. It wasn’t fine, the photo caught both of their very matching rings. Atsumu lays on the floor while Kiyoomi taps on his phone “Get up. Laying around won’t fix it.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu groans “Who the hell even was that.”.

“It doesn’t matter. It’s safe to say our teammates are shocked. We have a meeting with the coach and PR tomorrow.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu says goodbye to his last bits of freedom. To the world he’s a married man now and he’s going to be having a child. “Poor Shoyo and Bokkun. They’re going to be crushed I didn’t tell them.” Atsumu says.

Kiyoomi gets up from his chair and steps over Atsumu “Yes poor them, I can’t believe we upset Hinata and Bokuto.” Kiyoomi says sarcastically and walks down the hallway. Atsumu turns his head to glare down the hallway. After a bit Atsumu gets up and looks at the post on his phone. It’s a shot of the two looking at baby items, their backs are turned but their hands are in frame and you can clearly see their wedding bands.

Atsumu taps his phone against his forehead. He pulls up his contacts and calls the only person he can trust. “I saw that post, you’re screwed” Osamu says over the phone. Atsumu whines “Am i really? So what? We’re married, it can’t be that bad.”. He can hear Suna laugh on the other side “Yeah whatever, you guys are married. It’s just that you guys kept it hidden for so long.” Osamu says.

“But that can’t be that bad right? We could just say like it was for professional reasons.” Atsumu says. Osamu hums “Yeah, something like that would work. Although i don’t know why you idiots hid it anyways.” He says. Atsumu rolls his eyes “Do you think I enjoyed being married off at 18? I just wanted something that was my own.” Atsumu says and then sighs.

“I hadn’t thought of it like that.” Osamu says and Atsumu can tell he’s frowning. “I can’t already tell you’re overthinking. For like the 50th time, this ain’t yer fault!” Atsumu says. Osamu sighs “You’re annoying. I wish it was my fault now.” He says and then hangs up. Atsumu stares at his phone offendedly and then throws it to the side.

“Atsumu, I know it’s big news but the Sakusa’s will take care of you.” Atsumu didn’t want to hear it, hear her. Osamu stood by her side, looking at the ground guiltingly. “I don’t get a choice? You decided already?” Atsumu asks, already knowing the answer. “It’s good money Atsumu. You know we’re struggling… you’ll live a happy life.” She says.

Atsumu grits his teeth together “Samu had a choice didn’t he? Why can’t i make my own decisions?” He asks and Osamu looks at him in horror. In actuality, the Sakusa’s had asked for Osamu first. He was a good cook, he had a better attitude, he was the model husband. But Osamu already had Suna. His mother adored Suna and Osamu. His mother’s favouritism was blatant, she always preferred Osamu.

She preffered the one who was well behaved. Osamu had a choice. Osamu declined and the responsibility landed on Atsumu. “The wedding is in 5 days. I’m sorry Atsumu.” His mother says. She walks away leaving him and Osamu alone. “I’m sorry Tsumu… I didn’t know she would’ve made you do it instead. If i knew I swear I would’ve agreed to it.” Osamu apologized and pleaded.

Atsumu knew better to be mad at his brother. It wasn’t his fault. No one wanted to be married off for money at their age. If it had to be between the two of them, Atsumu was more than happy to take that responsibility. “It’s not yer fault Samu. It’s the adults.” Atsumu says. It was the first time since their childhood that he saw Osamu cry.

those five days were some of the worst in his life. It was filled with a bunch of randoms, that he now knows as memebers of the Sakusa family and planning, fittings and a lot of talking. He had his first actual conversation with Kiyoomi on their wedding day.

“Sorry you had to be dragged into this..” Kiyoomi says as he looks to the side. Atsumu shrugs as he looks out the window. The two had time to meet and talk before they were wed off. “It’s fine.” Atsumu replies. Kiyoomi shakes his head “It’s really not. You shouldn’t have to suffer because of my parents choices.” Kiyoomi says.

Atsumu looks over at him. He looks just as annoyed as Atsumu felt. Kiyoomi didn’t want to be married either. “Well i’m not the only one suffering. We’re in this together i guess.” Atsumu jokes. Kiyoomi does offer him a laugh “Yeah i guess.” He says.

It was a nice ceremony, despite everything. Atsumu did get a say in some of the planning. He got to have Osamu and his friends as his groomsmen. His mom cried and hugged him but all he wanted to do was to run away from her. “I know it’s not the best circumstances but i promise, i’ll give you the best life, you’ll never have to worry.” Kiyoomi says as the two sit together at their reception.

Atsumu rests his head on his hand “You don’t have to promise me anything.” He replies. “I don’t. But it’s the least i could do.” Kiyoomi responds. Atsumu side eye’s him “What does this “best life” look like?” Atsumu asks. “We’ll have a house, you’ll have comfortable living free of charge. You won’t have to pay for anything actually. You can do what you want as long as it doesn’t tarnish the Sakusa name. We’ll essentially just be roommates.” Kiyoomi explains.

Atsumu looks at him in surprise, when he thought of arranged marriage he thought of being forced into a marriage, a romantic relationship with someone he doesn’t know. Someone that probably wouldn’t treat him very well. “I’ll support you through whatever you want to do. I’ll make sure you’re comfortable at all times.” Kiyoomi continues. Atsumu nods “What about you? Don’t you want to live a good life too?” Atsumu asks.

Kiyoomi sighs and nods “I do. But if it comes at your expense, i’m find residing.” He replies. Atsumu frowns and looks back out to the crowd of people who came to their wedding. “Then I promise to give you the best life too.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi looks over at him surprised “This isn’t easy on either of us, but the least we could do is make sure the other lives easily.” Atsumu says.

Kiyoomi nods “Thank you.” He says with a small smile. Atsumu ends up smiling too.

Atsumu stares up at the ceiling and takes a deep breath, they made a promise to eachother and they followed through on it. Atsumu lives easily, he’s comfortable and happy even if it took awhile. Kiyoomi doesn’t seem annoyed by him so he takes it as filling his promise.

“You’re still on the ground? I thought you’d be up by now.” Kiyoomi comments as he walks back into the room. Atsumu grumbles and finally stands up “I was just about to get up before you walked in.” Atsumu says. “Sure.” Kiyoomi replies as he pours himself a cup of tea. Atsumu stretches his arms “I’m gonna head to bed.” He says.

Kiyoomi nods “Have a good night.” He says. Atsumu nods and heads up the stairs. They had a meeting tomorrow and Atsumu was going to need a lot of sleep for it.

Atsumu didn’t sleep.

He was so nervous that he got 3 hours of sleep. Kiyoomi didn’t look much better than him. They silently got coffee on the way to the gym. The coach was waiting for them and brought them to his office. “You’re not in trouble! You look like you’re about to burst!” The PR lady says. Atsumu lets his shoulders drop a bit, there was a little part of him that thought they’d get kicked off the team.

“I’m only really here to get the full story so we know how to handle things.” The PR lady explains and the two nod. Coach foster groans “You two are engaged? I didn’t even know you two were dating. When did this happen?” He asks. Atsumu clears his throat “We’re actually married. We’ve been married for 6 years now.” He says and Kiyoomi nods.

Coach foster and the lady look at them in surprise “Oh wow. Got married young huh?” The coach jokes. “It was an arranged marriage.” Kiyoomi says and the coach goes silent. “But we’d like to keep that part a secret!” Atsumu says, trying to make the situation less awkward. “Why’d you hide it in the first place?” The PR lady asks.

“To keep things professional.” Kiyoomi explains. The lady nods “Okay! My work here is done! That was way less scandalous than i thought!” She says. She says goodbye to everyone and leaves the room. The two are now left alone with the coach “I don’t actually care about your private lives, as long as it doesn’t affect your playing or the teams reputation.” The coach explains.

Atsumu shakes his head “I swear it won’t.” He says and the coach nods. “The others probably want to hear from you two as well.” Forster says and laughs. Kiyoomi and Atsumu grimace just thinking of telling the team. That meeting was easy. Foster explains that they’ll probably just put out a statement that they hid the marriage to keep things professional and that will be it.

It was a huge relief. “Why didn’t you tell us!” Hinata whines as he shakes Atsumu. “I was shocked, like beyond shocked.” Inumaki says. “And I was trying to set you up with all those people! So embarrassing!” Hinata says and covers his face. Kiyoomi looks at Hinata “You were doing what?” He asks. Atsumu waves his hand dismissively “I always said no.” He says.

“You guys are married! That’s crazy! How long?” Bokuto asks excitedly. “6 years.” Atsumu and Kiyoomi answer in unison. Everyone goes slack jawed “You guys were only 18?” Tomas says. Atsumu nods “Yeah, we were young.” He replies but doesn’t elaborate. “Aw what! You guys were highschool sweethearts and hid the whole thing!” Hinata complains.

“People still use that term?” Kiyoomi deadpans. “It makes sense we didn’t know, they both kept their birth names.” Meian explains. “Actually, i’m a Sakusa. I just used my birth name when i joined the team.” Atsumu says. The team berates the two for hiding the whole thing and the fact that Atsumu Miya wasn’t actually a Miya.

“Wait, in that photo you two were looking at baby stuff.” Inumaki points out and the team stares at the two. Atsumu fidgets nervously and Kiyoomi sighs “We’re going to start a family.” Kiyoomi explains. The team goes crazy again and starts congratulating the two.

Foster eventually breaks everyone up to get the practice. After practice the coach asks him is Atsumu wants to change his jersey to Sakusa or keep it the same. Atsumu just gives up and says yes to the jersey change. The whole world already knows now, what’s the point in keeping his jersey a name that isn’t even his anymore.

Atsumu slouches in the car and Kiyoomi frowns. The car ride is silent the whole way back to their house. Atsumu collapses onto the couch and Kiyoomi looks at him concerningly. “Was that too much for you?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu shakes his head “No.. Just a lot. I’ll be fine though.” He answers. Kiyoomi nods and walks over to the kitchen.

He grabs drinks from the fridge and gives one to Atsumu. The team made a statement about the leaked photo. They confirm that Atsumu and Kiyoomi are married, that they hid it for professional reasons. The fans took it well, even creating a ship name for them.

“How the fuck can we be Sakuatsu when i’m also Sakusa?” Atsumu asks as he throws his phone. Kiyoomi deadpans “I swear that’s the third phone i bought you.” He says as he looks at Atsumu’s broken phone on the floor. Atsumu doesn’t have time to answer because Kiyoomi’s phone starts ringing.

Kiyoomi answers and he’s just nodding a lot. “Okay. Thank you.” He says and hangs up the phone. “Who was that?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi looks at him “She’s pregnant.” He says. Atsumu looks at him in shock, he wasn’t sure how he was going to feel when it finally did happen.

But Atsumu jumps up and cheers. Kiyoomi also smiles and lets out a little cheer. For the first time since their wedding, Atsumu hugs Kiyoomi. It’s a short hug filled with adrenaline and excitement. “You should tell your parents.” Atsumu says and Kiyoomi nods. Kiyoomi pulls out his phone and calls his parents.

He puts the phone and speaker and tell them the news. They get really excited and start congratulating them, telling them that they would come celebrate with them soon. “We should probably go to bed.” Kiyoomi says. The two bid each other a goodnight and head to bed.

Atsumu looks around at the shelf “Does it matter what size crib i get?” He asks. Hinata shakes his head “I don’t think so? Also i don’t think a newborn sleeps in a crib first anyways.” He replies. “Don’t newborn’s sleep in these things.” Bokuto asks as he points to a bassinet. Atsumu and Hinata walk over.

Hinata and Bokuto had offered to come baby shopping with him on their day off. They still had a long time to go before their baby would get here but nothing wrong about being prepared. “Yeah, i’ll get that then. I can always just get a crib later.” Atsumu says as he shrugs. They add it to their cart and look around more.

“It’s so exciting that you are having a child!” Hinata says. “You guys have to have a baby shower.” Bokuto says. Atsumu laughs “I’m pretty sure Omi’s family is going to host something like that for us.” He says. “Can we come too!?” Hinata asks and Atsumu nods. The three check out and haul all the stuff out to Bokuto’s truck.

“Wait. Where do you even live? You never invited us over.” Bokuto asks as he’s driving. “He was hiding his marriage. Of course he wasn’t going to invite us over.” Hinata replies from the backseat. Atsumu laughs and starts giving Bokuto directions.

“I knew you said you lived in a house but i didn’t know it was this nice!” Hinata says as he looks at Atsumu’s house. Kiyoomi and Atsumu has been gifted a large and nice house, a house made for a family. It wasn’t as large as the Sakusa estate but it was far from small.

Atsumu laughs “It was a wedding gift.” He replies. “This is like 20 times bigger than my apartment!” Bokuto says as he looks at the house. “The jackals apartments are tiny, any place is bigger in comparison.” Atsumu says with a sigh. Atsumu takes a box from the back of the truck and leads the two inside the house.

The two gawk as they look around. “It’s so nice in here!” Hinata says. Atsumu leads them more into the house and places the box down in the living room. “Omi! I’m back!” Atsumu yells. Kiyoomi walks out of the hallway “Did you get everything?” He asks.

“Your house is so nice Omi!” Hinata says as he places another box down. Bokuto also walks over “For real! I’m jealous.” He says. Kiyoomi deadpans “And you brought them.” He says. “We’ll get out of your hair soon! Let’s get the last of the stuff.” Bokuto says and Hinata nods and the two head back outside.

“Just be grateful they wanted to help out.” Atsumu says and Kiyoomi sighs. Atsumu also heads back out to get more of the supplies. Kiyoomi sits on the couch and watches the three move stuff inside the house. “I think that’s the last one.” Bokuto says as he places a bag on the ground.

Kiyoomi grimaces “This just looks like when we moved in. Disgusting.” He says. Atsumu deadpans “I’ll move it to the room later, calm yer tits.” He says. “We can help, where the room?” Hinata asks. Atsumu leads them down the hallway to the room they picked out to the baby’s room. It’s a plain room, they haven’t painted it or anything yet.

The two help Atsumu move all the stuff into the room, which is way easier then brings it from the truck to the house so they finish up quickly. “You have to send us a photo when the room is done.” Hinata says as the three walk back out to the living area. Atsumu nods and smiles “Duh, i gotta show it off somewhere.” He answers.

“Does that mean you two are going to take time off when the baby comes?” Hinata asks. Atsumu nods “We’ll be taking a few months off until the baby gets accustomed.” Kiyoomi answers from the couch. “It’ll be so empty without you two at practice.” Bokuto says with a frown. “We’re not dying. You’ll still see us.” Atsumu answers.

“I’m so excited for you guys! I just can’t believe you’re having a baby.” Hinata says as he wipes tears from his eyes. Atsumu pats his back “We’re excited too.” He says with a smile. After a bit the two leave and Atsumu stands outside waving. When their car disappears down the road he sighs and takes a seat on the chairs outside.

Atsumu was excited, he still is but it’s sort of spiraled into an overwhelming sense of dread. He knew the day would come he just didn’t want it to come this soon. He was going to love the kid, of course he was going to but he can’t help but feel this way now. He knows that having a kid doesn’t mean that his life is over, he knows that he can still do what he loves to do but… It doesn’t feel that way.

Sometimes he wishes he fought a little harder back then. Said no, said anything else but just accept it. Now he’s here and he feels trapped again, like he did when they first got married. Atsumu doesn’t regret marrying Kiyoomi. It’s just how everything happened. Kiyoomi makes him happy, provides for him, it’s all he could ever ask for from a partner.

He just wished it never happened the way it did. Which is stupid because if it didn’t happen that way, he wouldn’t even be married to Kiyoomi, probably wouldn’t have ever talked to him. “You’re stressed.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu lifts his head up, he didn’t even realized he was crouched over like that.

Atsumu sighs and leans back in his chair and Kiyoomi takes the seat beside him. “I’m happy and all… I’m glad that we’re starting a family but i can’t help but feel…” Atsumu says. “Awful? Miserable? I get it.” Kiyoomi replies before Atsumu can finish his sentence. Atsumu lets out a breath of relief “Is it bad that i feel that way?” He asks.

Kiyoomi shakes his head “No it’s not. Truthfully, i never wanted kids. I never had the desire to get married or start a family of my own.” He replies. Atsumu nods “Why do you listen to them? Your parents?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi frowns “What am i supposed to do? I can’t just ignore them, they’re my family. It’s the least i could do after all they’ve done for me.” Kiyoomi replies.

Atsumu nods, he gets it. He could’ve said no, outright refused, even could’ve run away. But if he did that it would mean his family would still struggle, it would mean that Osamu would’ve taken that burden. He resented his mom for a while for it, but at the end of the day she’s still his mom. She went through a lot to make sure that Atsumu and Osamu were fed and had a roof over their heads.

She would work 3 jobs just to feed them. Sure she favoured Osamu but she still loved Atsumu. He’s sure it was a hard decision for her, she was desperate. Desperate to get out of that hole that she married her son off. “Are you happy? I mean, happy being married to me?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi stays quiet for a bit but nods “Yes. You’ve made me very happy over the past 6 years.” He answers truthfully.

Atsumu smiles “That’s good. It would’ve sucked if you were miserable the whole time.” He jokes. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes and smiles “I’m just glad it was you.” He says. Atsumu flushes and smiles even wider “I’m glad it was you too.”

“Kiyoomi. It’s your turn to pass on the family name. Your older brother and sister already have.” His father says. Kiyoomi nods and grits his teeth. “Your wedding will be in 5 days. We have a lot to do.” His mom says. Kiyoomi knew it was coming, his brother and sister were both married by the time they were 18.

It was silly to think he was the exception. The difference was that both of them already had partners. Partners they loved. Kiyoomi was going to be married off to a random person he knew nothing about, for money. Kiyoomi was terrified. He didn’t know who he was marrying, if they’d resent him for putting them in this position.

Or if they would expect more from him then he was willing to give. Kiyoomi had never been in love or had any kind of romantic relationship. He was scared that they were going to push that, expect anything romantic from him. He didn’t even like to be touched, forget climbing into bed with this random person for the rest of his life.

Then he met him. Atsumu Miya. He had known of the boy, he had seen him around at training camps and at nationals. All he knew about him was that he was loud, brass, the opposite of anything he ever wanted. But when they talked he wasn’t like that. Atsumu didn’t have a choice either, the both of them were forced into this marriage.

Atsumu was respectful. He never pushed boundaries or pried. “Sorry, i’ve never been in love and i don’t expect it to start now.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi nods and tries to hide his relief “That works for me.” He replies. Atsumu and Kiyoomi were not in love. Not even close. But they were commited, commited to eachother and to make the other happy.

They had promised eachother that much. “You can seek companionship if you’d like. I’d just request you keep it a secret from the media.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu scoffs “I don’t need that stuff.” He replies. Kiyoomi shrugs “Just a suggestion. Although if you ever do decide to do that i’d like to be informed.” He clarifies.

Atsumu groans and shakes his head “I won’t. Isn’t that like cheating?” He asks. Kiyoomi shrugs “Typically yes, but our circumstances are a bit different.” He says. “We’re married, i made that commitment to you. I won’t be doing anything. It sounds gross and dirty.” Atsumu says with distain on his face.

Kiyoomi was relieved to hear it. He was relieved that Atsumu wouldn’t accidentally make a fool of himself or Kiyoomi. Atsumu was true to his word, he never talked about anyone else or thought about connecting with another like that.

After awhile, Kiyoomi started to see Atsumu as his husband. His actual husband. The only part that was lacking in their marriage was the romance. Atsumu would open doors for him, cook him food every night, catch bugs and clean. Kiyoomi would pay for everything and take Atsumu to wherever he wanted to go, made sure that Atsumu had everything he wanted.

They were a team. They talk through things, compromise and make sacrifices just like any other couple. Kiyoomi made a mistake, he fell for Atsumu. It was slow and gradual, he barely even noticed it. It was only when the two were out, window shopping when he really felt it. Atsumu was looking at a random trinket through the antique store window.

Atsumu smiled and all Kiyoomi could think was that he wanted to give him everything, he wanted to make Atsumu so unbelievably happy. But Atsumu wasn’t in love with him so Kiyoomi was content with putting those feelings aside. He was content staying in this loveless marriage if that meant Atsumu would stay by his side.

Atsumu puts his phone away “Samu and Suna should be here within the next hour.” He says. Kiyoomi scans the shelf “Do they remember where we live?” He asks. Atsumu nods “How could they forget?” He says and laughs. The two are at a hardware store, looking at paint colors. Suna has a few days break so he and Osamu decided to visit the two to celebrate and help with the baby room.

“Would this purple be too feminine?” Kiyoomi asks as he points at one of the purple shades. “Maybe, but we could always just repaint when the kid gets older and you know, actually choose a color.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi bites his lip “No. We’ll go with a more neutral color.” He says and walks further down the aisle.

Atsumu shakes his head and follows him. “What about teal? girls and boys like this color.” Atsumu says as he points at the color. Kiyoomi stares at it and points to a lighter shade of it “I like that one.” He says. Atsumu nods and picks up the card “Light teal it is.”

The two continue to walk around the paint aisle but Atsumu stares down at his own hand. He can’t explain it but Atsumu has been wanting more, as in touching Kiyoomi more. It’s probably because he’s excited and they’re stepping into a new chapter in life. Normal couples and married couples hold hands.

They were in public, they were famous and everyone knew they were married. It was weird that they didn’t hold hands right? “If we want an additional paint color we should go for something opposite the color wheel.” Kiyoomi comments. “Should we hold hands?” Atsumu asks as he holds out his hand.

Kiyoomi looks at Atsumu then down at his hand. Kiyoomi looks back at him and grimaces. Atsumu immediately feels like he said something wrong and opens his mouth to take it back “Not with that hand. Who knows what you’ve touched.” Kiyoomi says and digs around in his pocket. Atsumu stands there, mouth open while Kiyoomi drops hand sanitizer in his hand.

“Rub it in. It’s not going to do anything if it’s sitting there.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu snaps out of it and quickly makes sure the sanitizer is thoroughly rubbed in. After he’s done Kiyoomi holds out his hand. Atsumu shakes a little bit as he reaches out his hand and takes Kiyoomi’s hand in his. It’s the first time since their wedding where they hold hands.

“The color should be the complementary of teal. I shade of orange should suffice.” Kiyoomi says as he continues to look at the shelf. Atsumu nods and looks at the wall “Like coral?” He asks. The two pick out the second color and walk around the store hand in hand. Although they do have to let go when they’ve both reached the max capacity of what they could carry with one hand.

They both tried to stay holding hands, it probably looked ridiculous to anyone looking at them. Two grown men, one arm filled with paint stuff and the other gripping onto the other man. They haul all the stuff out to the car. “We should stop by the grocery store too, We can make Samu cook for us.” Atsumu says with a smirk.

“Good call.” Kiyoomi replies and climbs into the car. The two walk around the grocery store hand in hand. Atsumu carries around the basket and the two pick out ingredients for the meal they want Osamu to cook. They return home and unload all of the stuff they bought.

“Is 6 buckets of each color overkill or did we not get a bough?” Kiyoomi asks as they both look down at the 12 buckets. “I have no idea. I just hope it’s enough, having more is better than not having enough.” He replies. Kiyoomi nods “Good point.” He says.

The front door opens and the two peak their heads into the hallway. “Tsumu! Kiyoomi! We’re here!” Osamu yells. Atsumu goes running down the hallway and gives Osamu a hug. Kiyoomi follows after him and greets the two. “Are we upstairs again?” Suna asks. “Yeah, I set up the guest bedroom for you two already.” Kiyoomi answers.

Suna pries Osamu away from Atsumu “Come on, we should get in the shower.” He says. The two head upstairs “I hope they don’t mean together.” Atsumu deadpans. “That’s gross. I’d hope they’d have more class than that.” Kiyoomi says with a sigh. The two take seats at the kitchen island.

“I appreciate that they clean themselves when they step into our house.” Kiyoomi comments as he flips through a random magazine they had lying around. Atsumu nods “I told Samu that he has too when he comes over. Although Suna is the more considerate one. I only had to tell him once.” He says and laughs.

“I wish they’d hurry up though. I’m hungry.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu laughs and gets up from his seat. He digs through the cabinet to get the snack bars that Kiyoomi likes. He sits back down and hands it over “This should hold you over until then.”

Kiyoomi takes it from him “I was hoping i wouldn’t have to resort to snacking.” He says with a sigh and opens the wrapper. The two chat while Kiyoomi eats his snack. After a while the two finally come back downstairs. “Ingredients are in the fridge.” Atsumu says. Osamu glares at him and Kiyoomi “You two always do this! i can’t believe you two are going to be parents.” He says and opens the fridge.

Suna laughs at him and lays down on the couch. Atsumu snickers at him “You’re just mad you and sunarin haven’t tied the knot yet.” He teases. Osamu glares at him “Shut it.” He says. Suna peaks his head over the couch “Yeah Osamu, when are we gonna tie the knot.” He asks teasingly.

Osamu blushes and glares at the both of them “I hate it when you two get along.” He says and goes back to cutting vegetables. Atsumu snickers and leans closer to Kiyoomi “Samu is thinking of proposing soon” He whispers. Kiyoomi looks at him with surprise and leans over to Atsumu “Really? I thought they’d just elope or something by now.” Kiyoomi whispers back.

“You two are even worse! Fuckin match made in hell.” Osamu yells at them. Atsumu snickers and Kiyoomi lets out a small laugh. The teasing stops and the four catch up while Osamu cooks, which follows into the four eating dinner together.

“This is way too much damn paint.” Osamu says. “Yeah I thought so.” Kiyoomi says as he places his finger on his chin. “Do you think we’re painting a house?” Suna deadpans. “This wouldn’t cover our house, we’d need at least another 16.” Atsumu says.

“You two are off painting duty. You are some of the stupidest people i’ve met.” Osamu says and pushes the town out of the room and slams the door shut. “Wait no! I want to paint the nursery too!” Atsumu shouts as he bangs on the door. “I didn’t wanna paint anyways.” Kiyoomi says and walks down the hallway.

“Go away!” Osamu yells. “You can’t kick me out of the nursery! This is my house!” Atsumu yells back. He hears some laughing from behind the door “He said you’d mess everything up!” Suna yells and Atsumu starts banging on the door again while they laugh at him.

Atsumu ends up sitting on the couch with Kiyoomi while he brudes. “You’ll still get to paint, they’re doing the boring part anyways.” Kiyoomi says and takes a sip of his tea. Atsumu crosses his arms and huff “Still. I wanted to paint too.” He says. “If it really bugs you i can just go out and buy white paint. We can just restart.” Kiyoomi says.

Atsumu looks over at Kiyoomi and laughs. Kiyoomi flushes in embarrassment “Oh Omi. it’s fine, i was just being petty. You take making me happy really seriously.” Atsumu says as he wipes tears from his eyes. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes “I knew you’d make a big deal out of nothing. And of course i’d take it seriously, i made a promise to you after all.” He says and points to the ring on Atsumu’s finger.

Atsumu looks down at his ring and then at Kiyoomi’s. “Are you sweet talking me right now?” Atsumu teases. Kiyoomi groans and holds his head “I can’t with you.” He says and Atsumu cackles. Atsumu feels bad for ruining a potential sweet moment but he panicked.

It was the first time ever that the two got close to being “flirty” or anything like that. Even if it was just some sweet talk it freaked him out. Not in a bad way but he got really nervous, he doesn’t have time to unpack that though. He’s concerned now, The two don’t flirt, at all. Atsumu used to be a “charmer” as some would call it. He used to hit on girls a ton and he still jokingly flirts with his friends.

But he’s doing none of that with his own husband! Atsumu looks at Kiyoomi nervously, who’s paying no mind to him. Oh god, what if Kiyoomi feels self conscious or insecure because Atsumu doesn’t flirt with him. Doesn’t count as cheating? Atsumu swore he would never cheat or get with another person! It’s offical, Atsumu is a bad husband.

“We’re done fer the night.” Osamu says as he and Suna walk back out to the living area. Atsumu and Kiyoomi look over the couch “You two look like you played in paint, what the hell happened?” Kiyoomi grimaces. “Osamu fell.” Suna says with a snicker. “There might be paint on the window.” Osamu admits with a straight face.

Suna laughs “I’m calling it a night.” He says. Atsumu and Kiyoomi say goodnight to Osamu and Suna, then watch them walk up the stairs. “I didn’t realize it was that late, I should head to bed too.” Kiyoomi says and stands up. Atsumu frowns and nods. Kiyoomi waves him goodnight and goes down the hallway into his room.

Atsumu has nothing to lose to do so he shuts everything off and heads upstairs to his bedroom.

Atsumu got to paint the next day. Osamu and Suna left the house to go run errands. Atsumu painted a mural, per Kiyoomi’s request. Even though Kiyoomi didn’t want to paint he sat in the room the whole time Atsumu painted. Kiyoomi claimed that he still wanted it to be a special moment between the two even if he couldn’t paint.

It was still nice, he had someone to talk to the entire time. The four went out to a nice restaurant for dinner and had a few drinks. Osamu and Suna could only stay for the weekend so they left late Sunday.

“It was such a good weekend.” Atsumu says while he stretches. Kiyoomi nods “I enjoyed it too.” He admits. Atsumu smiles “Yeah? We have to do it again then.” He says enthusiastically. “Of course. We should get to bed though, we have practice tomorrow.” Kiyoomi says and Atsumu nods.

Atsumu had an amazing weekend. It did make him a bit more excited about the baby.

Atsumu had asked Kiyoomi out on a date. He felt bad about his poor husband duties and needed to make up for it! He wanted to make Kiyoomi feel special like all husbands should, so he took him out to his favourite restaurant (granted Kiyoomi was paying) but it was a great gesture nonetheless.

“We don’t go out a lot, why ask me out now?” Kiyoomi asks. “Well I thought it would be a good idea to wind down before the baby comes, and we haven’t celebrated yet just the two of us.” Atsumu explains. Kiyoomi nods and leans back in his booth chair. “Good idea.” He comments. Atsumu cheers internally, so it wasn’t a terrible idea!

“Just our regular please.” Kiyoomi says as the waiter comes by. The two don’t come here often but the staff loves the couple so they already memorized their orders. They always get the same booth, it’s a more private table. “We should start thinking of names.” Kiyoomi says. “What are you thinking! Something more traditional or just something that wouldn’t make the kid get bullied?” Atsumu asks.

“My family would probably prefer something more traditional but this is our child so we can name them however we see fit.” Kiyoomi answers. Atsumu nods and thinks for a second “Names are hard, we should wait until we know the gender at least.” Atsumu gave up quickly. Kiyoomi frowns “So you haven’t thought of any names?” He asks.

“I’m looking for a feeling. Like the baby would be born in spring we could name it after the season or something that represents the season! Or something like that you know, it doesn’t have to be that.” Atsumu explains. “I get it… you want the name to have a meaning? I like it.” Kiyoomi says.

Atsumu nods “Just a thought, If you had any ideas i’d love to hear them.” He says. Their food arrives and Kiyoomi nods “I had a few…” He says. Atsumu listens as Kiyoomi lists off a few boy and girl names. “But i like your idea more, and you’re right, we should wait til we know the gender til we decide.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu tries to stop himself from looking at Kiyoomi weird.

Those were the weirdest names ever! He’s glad that Kiyoomi liked his idea more, that kid would’ve gotten bullied for sure! He’s supposed to be a good husband right now though, he can’t criticize the man. “Yeah.. I think waiting is the best.” He says. The two eat and chat casually, about the baby, practice, family and whatever they want to.

The two step outside and Atsumu stretches “That was amazing.” He says. Kiyoomi shivers and turns to start walking “I don’t get why we had to walk, it’s cold out.” He says. Atsumu laughs and catches up to him, grabbing onto his hand “It’s nice to get fresh air. If you get too cold I can give you my jacket.” He says slyly.

Kiyoomi lightly blushes “It’s fine. I’ll survive.” He replies. Atsumu internally cheers, he’s still got it after all! He was a bit nervous to deploy the flirting because it’s been such a long time that he was scared it was just going to fall short but it seems to be effective! “What do you say about digging out our wedding photos and putting them up around the house.” Atsumu suggests.

“Probably not. I assume we don’t look too happy in those photos.” Kiyoom responds. He’s been shot down! So maybe he wasn’t great at flirting but he has a 50% success rate right now. “Yeah probably, but he should get some photos to hang on the walls! To make it seem more home-y.” Atsumu says.

“I suppose that would be a good idea. Don’t want the baby thinking it’s been born into an unloving family.” Kiyoomi says. 66% success rate! “What’s wrong with you? You’re awfully mushy today.” Kiyoomi says. What was the point? He could only try three times before Kiyoomi noticed. Atsumu sighs “Am i a bad husband?” He asks. Kiyoomi stops the two from walking “No. Why would you ever think that?” He asks.

Atsumu blushes in embarrassment and scratches the back of his head with his free hand “Well i just thought that i made you feel like you weren’t special. Or that you thought i was unloyal in anyway.” Atsumu answers. Kiyoomi stares at him “So i was trying to flirt with you, but i’m so out of the game it just came out lame.” Atsumu says.

Kiyoomi chuckles and starts walking again “I never thought any of that. I can see through your actions that you’re very committed to this. You told me a long time ago that you’d never think of cheating on me so why would i ever think you were unloyal.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu lets out a breath of relief and smiles “That’s a relief.” He says.

“Although i would barely count that as flirting. You might need to work on that.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu flushes in embarrassment and starts spouting nonsense at Kiyoomi.

Cheating. Cheating implies that they’re in a relationship. Atsumu knows that their relationship is far from romantic but they’re commited to eachother. Can you cheat on someone you see platonically? No, this is a unique situation. He married some rando who he see’s as a friend now, there’s no romantic feelings involved! But it’s not a friendship marriage… it’s definitely something deeper than that but Atsumu can’t place if it’s romantic.

Atsumu groans into his pillow. He should’ve noticed that the relationship had changed, it’s no longer platonic. They’re having a kid together for crying out loud. Atsumu isn’t even sure what it is anymore. If it were romantic the two would be kissing right? He hasn’t kissed Kiyoomi… well he did once, on their wedding day.

He barely even remembers it. It was a brief kiss, during the ceremony, it was a mandatory kiss. It barely count as a peck! The two were definitely not lovey-dovey. But it was obvious it was not platonic, oh no. Was he in a situationship with his own husband!? No, it’s not that. They have a label, they’re married.

The whole date made Atsumu confused, more confused than ever. If he were to console in anyone about this, they would probably be confused as to why Atsumu was questioning whether or not his relationship with his own husband was romantic or not. It sounds ridiculous but it’s real.

He’s not even sure Kiyoomi knows about this change, Should he tell him!? That would be so awkward!

The Sakusa estate. It’s huge, it’s a million times bigger than Atsumu and Kiyoomi’s home. The Sakusa’s are loaded, going to their house for the first time was weird. It’s also the same place where Atsumu and Kiyoomi had gotten married, right in the backyard. It’s now the place where they’re holding their baby shower / gender reveal.

Kiyoomi’s parents planned the whole thing. All of the Sakusa’s were in attendance, Atsumu’s family was there. The Sakusa’s were kind enough to fly out all of their friends too. Atsumu doesn’t even know half these people “I didn’t know that they would invite their associates.” Kiyoomi says with a sigh.

Atsumu rubs his back “It’s fine, I think they’re just really excited.” He says. Kiyoomi nods and stands up straight “We should greet everyone.”. Atsumu nods and follows Kiyoomi to the front door. Atsumu was always drained after a visit with the Sakusa’s but he loved gifts so he was more than excited for this event.

The two stand by the door and greet everyone that walks through. Most people were already there so it wasn’t much to greet. “You think it’ll be a boy or a girl?” Atsumu asks as he picks up a pin. The Sakusa’s custom ordered pins, bot and girl pins. Kiyoomi picks up one of the girl pins and pins it onto his shirt “I’m hoping for a girl.” He says.

Atsumu smiles and picks up a girl pin “Me too!” He says. “I hope it’s a boy.” Osamu says as he walks up and picks up a pin. Atsumu deadpans “No one asked ya.” He says. “Tsumu gives off girl dad. So i hope it’s a boy too.” Suna says and picks up a pin.

“I seriously hate you two.” Atsumu says and the two cackle as they walk away. “They both call you that, is it a nickname they gave you?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu turns to look at him again “Huh? I guess so, Samu started calling me that when we young so everyone else kind of just started calling me Tsumu too.” He answers.

Kiyoomi nods “So it runs in the family? I gotta say, you two are awful with nicknames.” He says and walks over to chairs nearby. Atsumu frowns and sits down with him “Do you not like Omi?” He asks. Kiyoomi shrugs “It’s fine, i hated it at first though. I’ve gotten used to it, but it would be nice if you used my actual name every once in a while.” Kiyoomi says.

“Oh.” Atsumu says. He hasn’t actually used his first name like ever. It was always “Omi” or “Sakusa” but he can’t exactly call him that now. “Of course i can do that! probably would be better that way around yer parents right?” Atsumu asks and Kiyoomi nods.

“You can call me a nickname too, Everyone calls me Tsumu so i’m used to it.” Atsumu says with a smile. “Atsu. I think that one is much cuter.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu blushes and then huffs “You’re teasing me aren’t ya?” Kiyoomi laughs and nods.

“You two, please come. We’re about to start.” Kiyoomi’s mother calls them over. Atsumu and Kiyoomi walk over, they take seats on a couch with the rest of the guests surrounding them. “I thought we’d start with gifts, then we can have dinner afterwards. We’ll save the gender reveal for the end.” His mom says with a polite smile.

They all went all out on the gifts. They got gifts an abundance of clothing, diapers, toys, formula, blankets, anything else a baby could need. The Sakusa’s really went all out, buying elaborate toys that the baby probably wouldn’t be able to play with right away. They even gifted them a separate credit card just for baby stuff.

Atsumu couldn’t stop thanking them. The Sakusa’s were friendly, overly friendly. Atsumu expected them to be some kind of monsters when he married into the family but they were just sweet older folk who wanted grandchildren, bad. They always went out of their way to make sure Atsumu and Kiyoomi were alright.

Atsumu’s own mother was even there and congratulated them. Their families got along great, Kiyoomi and his own mother were practically best friends. The surrogate and her husband was even there and was gifted a bunch of items that would help through the rest of the pregnancy.

The Sakusa and Miya family got along in general. Atsumu was really close with his siblings-in-law, Osamu was even close with them. “This is a shit ton of food.” Atsumu whispers. “There’s like 100 people here, of course they went all out.” Kiyoomi whispers back. This feels like wedding part 2.

A lot of familiar faces and it has the same atmosphere. “I can eat anything?” Atsumu asks and Kiyoomi nods. “It is for us.” He replies. “Sweet!” He says. Everyone fills up, Atsumu definitely eats more than he can take. Atsumu ends up on the couch, resting a hand on his stomach. Kiyoomi sits beside him, stroking his hair in attempt to comfort him.

“I should have told you to take it lightly. There’s cake later.” Kiyoomi says. “Great. I love that you told me after i already devoured that whole table.” Atsumu says sarcastically. Kiyoomi’s mom comes by and Kiyoomi tells her to give them a few more moments. “Have you tried going to the bathroom?” Kiyoomi asks.

“Oh yes please talk dirty to me.” Atsumu deadpans. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes “It’s not my fault. Just rest a bit more, you’ll feel fine soon.” He says. Atsumu felt fine he just felt a little bloated. It’s just that Kiyoomi was touching him. Kiyoomi never touched him! He was going to milk this for as long as he could!

He could handle a few pieces of cake, so he was more than fine. “We should redo your hair before the baby arrives.” Kiyoomi says as he inspects a piece of Atsumu’s hair. “Actually i’ve been thinking of going back to my natural color.” Atsumu says.

“Really? Why is that?” Kiyoomi asks in surprise. “It’s be easier. With the baby i don’t think i’d have time to get my hair done all the time.” Atsumu jokes. Kiyoomi smiles “Well, whatever you decide to do, it’ll look great.” He says. Atsumu nods and smiles, point for him.

“Tsumu, Omi! Come on! We want to know the gender!” Hinata says as he runs up with Kageyama. Yes, even Kageyama got an invite to the event. Atsumu groans and gets up from the couch, he knew he couldn’t sit there forever with Kiyoomi. “Okay! Let’s do this.” He says and Hinata cheers. Kiyoomi gets up two and they walk out to the backyard. Everyone gathers around the two.

It’s a fairly simple gender reveal, they just pull a string then smome and confetti of the gender will come out. “I’m nervous.” Atsumu whispers. Kiyoomi nods and holds out his hand. “You can pull it whenever!” Kiyoomi’s mother says as she holds a phone out recording the two.

Kiyoomi nods “Do you want to pull it?” He asks. Atsumu smiles “We can do it together.” He says. The two both grab onto the string. Everyone behind them starts counting down.

“3!”

“2!”

“1!!!”

The two yank the string. They both end up closing their eyes due to the loud sound the popper made. Atsumu opens his eyes and gazes up at the pink smoke. Atsumu and Kiyoomi turn to eachother with shocked but excited expressions. Atsumu wraps Kiyoomi in a hug and cheers while Kiyoomi laughs.

“It’s a girl!” Kiyoomi’s mom shouts and runs over to the two. Kiyoomi’s father and siblings also join them. Osamu, Suna and their mom rushes over too. Everyone else cheers and some people wipe away tears of happiness.

After everything had calmed down, Atsumu was roaming around the backyard with his slice of cake talking to people. He was on a high and he wasn’t coming down anytime soon. “Tsumu.” Osamu calls. Atsumu turns and smiles as he walks over to the old inarazaki team. “Thanks fer coming guys!” Atsumu says.

“I’m glad to see that you and Sakusa are getting along now.” Kita comments. “He’s Sakusa too.” Suna says. Atsumu laughs “There’s more than one Sakusa here.” He says. “Apologies. I’m glad you and Kiyoomi are getting along.” Kita corrects himself. “Their more then getting along! They’re having a whole child!” Ginjima says.

“Yeah I was surprised! On your wedding day it seemed like you two hated eachother.” Akagi says. Atsumu cringes, it was that way. Neither of them were happy to be there. “Well you know it’s been 6 years now. Things change.” Atsumu says and takes a bite of his cake. “Well, congratulations!” Aran says and the rest of them congratulate Atsumu as well.

“Who thought Tsumu would be the first on the team to have a kid.” Ginjima jokes. “I did. I thought he’d accidentally knock up some girl.” Suna says and everyone laughs while Atsumu huffs. In all honesty, Atsumu was a complete virgin. He had chances in highschool for sure but he was too nervous and decided to wait til after. Turns out he was thrown into marriage right away and never got the chance again.

“I’m not that reckless.” Atsumu deadpans. “It’s respectable you waited this long. It’s the perfect time to have children.” Kita says. “Huh? How so?” Atsumu asks. “You and Kiyoomi are well established in your careers, your reputation is great, taking some time off for a kid wouldn’t hurt it all that much.” Kita explains. Atsumu nods but he wasn’t really following.

“He’s saying our careers won’t be affected that much.” Kiyoomi says, startling Atsumu. Atsumu turns around “The hell? You takin’ ninja courses or somethin’?” Atsumu asks and everyone snickers at him. “Sorry to interrupt but my parents need us.” Kiyoomi says as he points over to his parents.

“Oh, yeah! Okay.” Atsumu says and hands his plate off to Osamu. Atsumu takes Kiyoomi’s hand in his and they walk over to the Sakusa’s. “I’m so happy! I just wanted to congratulate you two properly!” Kiyoomi’s mom says as she wraps Atsumu and Kiyoomi in a hug. Atsumu laughs “Thanks! I appreciate you guys throwing this whole thing for us!” Atsumu says as Kiyoomi’s mom lets go of them.

“Of course. We’re very happy for you two.” Kiyoomi’s dad says. “They want to give you a gift.” Kiyoomi says to Atsumu and nudges him forward a bit. Atsumu looks at them confused and holds out his hands. Kiyoomi’s mom drops a set of keys into his hands with a big smile. Atsumu looks at the keys confused, they look like car keys.

“It totally slipped our minds that you guys only had one car! This is going to make traveling much easier for you.” Kiyoomi’s mom says. Atsumu looks at Kiyoomi’s parents in shock “Wait what!? This is for me!?” He asks. Kiyoomi snickers beside him “Of course son, We hope you use it well.” Kiyoomi’s dad says.

“Oh my. This is a huge gift, are you sure?” Atsumu asks. They both nod “You’re a Sakusa and you’re the father of our grandchild. We get all of our children cars.” Kiyoomi’s mom says with a smile. Atsumu is completely shocked “It’s in the front, we can go look at it.” Kiyoomi says as he tugs on Atsumu’s arm.

Atsumu nods and lets Kiyoomi drag him out to the front of the house in a daze. It was a nice car, way nicer then any car he’s ever seen. “My parents meant to get you one sooner, sorry it took so long.” Kiyoomi says as he looks at the car. “No! It’s okay! I wasn’t even expecting one at all!” Atsumu protests.

Kiyoomi smiles “I was telling them about how many times you ended up walking home from practice. I was worried, so here’s your very own car.” He explains. “But you should get a gift too, this is your day too.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi smiles and looks to the side “Seeing you happy is a gift in itself.” He says sweetly.

Atsumu clutches the car keys in his hand “Aw man, I love you.” Atsumu says. Atsumu’s face immediately turns bright red and he looks at Kiyoomi who’s staring at him with wide eyes. Why would he say that!?! What was he even thinking!? “Ah- I mean, you know- Like i love you and your family!” Atsumu says but he doesn’t feel like he did a good job explaining. I love you!? What even was that.

Atsumu did have love for Kiyoomi. It was obvious, to anyone who saw them. Atsumu loved a lot of people, his mom, brother, his friends. So yeah, after 6 years with his husband he did love him. “I love you too.” Kiyoomi says responds after a bit. Atsumu lets himself relax a bit, so he wasn’t the only one harbouring love.

“You don’t have to be so embarrassed. I would be insulted if you didn’t love me a little bit after all of this.” Kiyoomi jokes. Atsumu presses his lips together and blushes even more, maybe he should’ve said it sooner. “Whatever. We should get back to the party.” He says and Kiyoomi laughs.

After the party is over Atsumu and Kiyoomi head up to their room. The Sakusa’s are under the impression that the two are in love so whenever they visit they share a room. It’s a bit more awkward now that Atsumu has said he’d loved Kiyoomi. Kiyoomi seems to be unbothered though, peacefully getting ready for bed.

Atsumu sighs in embarrassment as he grabs his blankets from the closet. Kiyoomi usually takes the bed and Atsumu sleeps on the couch in the room. “If you want… You can sleep in the bed.” Kiyoomi says as he steps out of the bathroom. “No way! I don’t want you sleeping on the couch.” Atsumu protests.

Kiyoomi has hyper mobility, the couch would end up doing more damage than good. Kiyoomi has custom made beds to best suit his needs. “That’s not- I meant, you can sleep in the bed with me.” Kiyoomi corrects him. Atsumu opens his mouth to protest again but stops and blushes “Wait.. really?”

Kiyoomi nods shyly “The bed is big enough and i don’t think that couch is comfortable is it?” He asks. Atsumu nods, he’s always wondered what the bed has felt like, he wasn’t missing this chance! “Okay!” Atsumu agrees. Atsumu throws his blanket onto the bed and heads to the bathroom to get ready for bed.

After Atsumu is done he climbs into bed, to keep them separate, he still uses his own blanket. The bed is heavenly, he was expecting something harder but it’s surprisingly soft and firm, which should be a weird combo but it works. “I see why you like this bed so much.” Atsumu says with a smile.

Kiyoomi nods, half his face is covered by his blanket “Yeah.. it’s super comfortable.” He says, muffled a bit by the blanket. Atsumu nods and relaxes into the bed. Atsumu passed out immediately, not even noticing that Kiyoomi wanted to say something.

Kiyoomi is stressed. Atsumu first noticed it in the morning before they left for practice. Now that their home after practice Kiyoomi has been pacing. Atsumu knows he should say something but all he’s been doing is watching as Kiyoomi paces around the house, fixing any little thing that’s out of place.

“Hey, Kiyoomi… Is everything okay..?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi nods and head down the hallway. Atsumu sighs and leans further into the couch, well that didn’t work. Atsumu doesn’t want to leave him like this but he really needs to head out to the store to buy ingredients for dinner. He’s hoping dinner will cheer him up.

Atsumu walks down the hallway and knocks on Kiyoomi’s door “You sure you’re okay?” He asks. “Yes, i’m fine!” Kiyoomi shouts through the door. “Alright, i’m going to the store. Don’t hurt yourself.” Atsumu jokes and walks away.

Atsumu takes his brand new car to the store and grabs ingredients for Kiyoomi’s favourite meal, As he walks out of the store he spots a flowerist across the street. He’s never gotten Kiyoomi flowers before but today seems like the perfect time to get them. After he shoves his grocery bags into his car he crosses the street.

When he gets in there, he has no idea what to get. He looks around even asks the lady working there. Then he see’s them, the perfect flowers to get Kiyoomi. Atsumu stops at Kiyoomi’s favourite tea shop on the way home and gets him his favourite cup of tea.

As Atsumu walks up to the house with all of his things, he feels a bit silly. What if this is overboard? What if it’s too romantic for whatever the two have going on? For fuck sakes, he already bought the damn things, no backing out now. Atsumu walks into the house and it seems Kiyoomi is still in his room.

Atsumu quickly hides the flowers and tea and gets started on dinner. He wants to give it all to Kiyoomi at the same time! He hopes and prays that Kiyoomi will calm down and maybe tell him what’s bothering him. Kiyoomi doesn’t step out of his room the whole time Atsumu is cooking.

Atsumu takes off his apron and looks down the hallway. He frowns and walks down the hallway. He knocks at Kiyoomi’s door “Kiyoomi. Are you alive?” He asks. It’s silent but then he hears rustling “Yeah..” Kiyoomi answers. Atsumu sighs and opens the door. Kiyoomi is sitting on his bed, in the dark.

“Moping in your room is going to get you nowhere. Come here.” Atsumu says and grabs Kiyoomi’s hand. He drags him off the bed and leads him down the hallway “I wasn’t moping, far from it.” Kiyoomi protests. Atsumu rolls his eyes and leads him to the dining room which is lit with candles “Sure.” He says.

Atsumu brings him to the table and Kiyoomi stares down. There’s a plate of his favourite food, his favourite tea and flowers. “What is this?” He asks as he sits down. Atsumu smiles “I can tell you’re stressed about something, i thought you enjoy a little distraction.” He explains.

“A candlelight dinner? So cliche.” Kiyoomi says with a smirk and sips his tea. Atsumu chuckles, he’s happy that Kiyoomi seems amused. “Only the best for my husband.” Atsumu replies. Kiyoomi starts eating and Atsumu lets the two eat in silence, he’ll let Kiyoomi talk when he wants to. Even if Kiyoomi doesn’t want to talk maybe he’d enjoy the quiet company.

The meal isn’t Atsumu’s favourite, definitely not his favourite to cook. He only makes it on rare occasions, since Kiyoomi hates asking for anything ever. “Taxes are due in march.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu looks over at Kiyoomi confused. Kiyoomi has his head cradled in his hands. “Which means I have to do our taxes. My parents stopped doing them for me… I don’t have the slightest clue on how to do taxes.” Kiyoomi says.

Atsumu deadpans, he thought someone was dying. Atsumu shakes his head, no this is typical. Kiyoomi would totally freak out about something like this. “And with the baby coming in march i don’t know what to do.” He admits. Atsumu sighs “Kiyoomi, you could’ve just told me that earlier. If it’s our taxes then i’m more than willing to help.” Atsumu says.

Kiyoomi looks at him “Really?” He asks. Atsumu nods “You’re parents have an accountant right?” He asks and Kiyoomi nods. “That’s who’s doing their taxes. We can just hire an accountant.” Atsumu suggests. Kiyoomi nods “So, i don’t have to do the taxes?” He asks and Atsumu nods.

“Don’t worry about the taxes. I’ll find an accountant and make sure they’re in before the deadline.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi sighs of relief “Thank you..” He says. Atsumu smiles “If you ever worry like that again just tell me. We can always figure it out.” Atsumu says.

“Right, we’re a team..” Kiyoomi mutters and Atsumu smiles and nods. After a bit Atsumu finishes his food and takes his and Kiyoomi’s plate back out to the kitchen. “You want more? There’s plenty”. Atsumu calls out. Kiyoomi rounds the corner with the flowers “What are these?” He asks. “Taking that as a no.” Atsumu says and grabs the tupperware.

“You never answered me.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu starts putting the leftovers away “Those are lotuses.” Atsumu answers. Kiyoomi looks at him confused and grabs a vase “What a random choice. Did the flowerist recommend them?” He asks. Atsumu shakes his head “No. Your name uses the Kanji for sacred. Lotuses are sacred flowers.” Atsumu explains and shoves the tupperware into the fridge.

Atsumu turns to see Kiyoomi gazing at the flowers. “That’s.. nice.” He says. Atsumu tilts his head in confusion, Kiyoomi stops looking at the flowers and walks over to Atsumu. Atsumu stumbles back a bit as Kiyoomi wraps his arms around him.

He’s surprised, Kiyoomi hasn’t initiated anything like this. Kiyoomi just started holding out his hand for Atsumu. Atsumu wraps his arms around Kiyoomi and lightly squeezes him. He can feel the tension and stress leave Kiyoomi’s shoulders. “Thank you.” Kiyoomi says it so quietly it feels like a whisper.

Atsumu smiles and nods against him “Anything for you.” He whispers back. After a bit Kiyoomi breaks off, saying he should go to bed and rushes back to his room. Atsumu finishes cleaning up and head up to his room, feeling a little lighter and a permanent smile on his face.

The big day is upon them. In just two months the baby will be here. Atsumu and Kiyoomi have mostly finished setting up the nursery but now comes the dilemma of choosing a name. Which Atsumu already has plenty of ideas. But he needs to run them by Kiyoomi.

“Hey, Kiyo. Wanna go through names?” Atsumu asks as he peaks his head into Kiyoomi’s room. Kiyoomi lays down in bed staring up at the ceiling “Atsumu. It’s 3am.” Atsumu smiles and laughs as he jumps onto Kiyoomi’s bed “I know but i can’t sleep. I have a few names.” Atsumu says. Kiyoomi groans and gestures for Atsumu to get off his bed.

Atsumu was so excited he totally just violated his space. Atsumu climbs off the bed with a frown. Kiyoomi holds up his blanket and pats the bed. Atsumu smiles and climbs into the bed. “The obvious choice is Sakura but theres plenty of Sakura’s around. So I was thinking Haru, you know spring?” Atsumu says.

Kiyoomi nods tiredly “So no Sakura but maybe Haru.” He recaps and Atsumu nods. “Of course there’s always names that has nothing to do with spring you know.” Atsumu says. “I like Haru..ka.” Kiyoomi says as promptly falls asleep. “Haruka…. You’re a genius.” Atsumu says. Atsumu also ends up falling asleep in Kiyoomi’s bed.

Kiyoomi barely even remembers Atsumu climbing into his bed so it was a lively morning. “What happened to you?” Suna asks. “Nothin’, Omi just punched me. Wait- Huh?” Atsumu says as he looks at Suna. Right, they had a practice match with the EJP, Suna’s team.

“I didn’t punch him, he’s being dramatic.” Kiyoomi says as he walks by. “He slapped me, which is arguably worse.” Atsumu whispers. “You probably deserved it. What did you do?” Suna asks. Atsumu deadpans, wrong person to go to for this “All i did was sleep. He freaked out because he didn’t remember me getting into bed with him.” He explains.

“Whoa, sleeping together? I thought this marriage was platonic.” Komori says as he comes over. Atsumu puts a hand over his mouth “Shut up. Not everyone is supposed to know that.” He says. “Oh shit, right. Sorry.” Komori whispers. Atsumu looks around the gym but it seems like no one even notices them talking.

“Why’d you even get into his bed? Sounds creepy to me.” Suna says with a grimace. “I’ve been his husband for the last 6 years. It’s weird if i wasn’t sleeping in his bed.” Atsumu deadpans. “So you guys are actually in a relationship now? Gotta say, i saw it coming from a mile away.” Komori says.

Atsumu blushes “No it’s not that!” He says. “So your friends who sleep in the same bed?” Suna asks. Atsumu groans and shakes his head “No. And also i’ve only shared beds with him like twice.” He says. “So you guys aren’t friends but you’re not together?” Komori asks confused. “Marriage sounds complicated, Tell Osamu i won’t be getting married to him.” Suna says and places a hand on Atsumu’s shoulder.

“It’s just their marriage. If you and Miya got married it would be a normal marriage.” Komori explains and Suna nods along. “Hey you can talk after! Right now is warm ups!” Meian tells and the three scatter. The Jackals crushed it. They beat EJP in straight sets, he will admit it was nice to see Suna, he feels like he’s going crazy just being with Kiyoomi everyday.

“What do you say about drinks!?” Komori asks as he wraps his arms around Atsumu and Suna. “Please.” Atsumu answers. “Kiyoomi, you’re coming too!” Komori yells and Kiyoomi glares at him from across the gym. Both teams end up going out to a nearby bar, even Kiyoomi came along.

“You could’ve said no.” Atsumu says and Kiyoomi sighs “I promised Motoya that i would go out next time he’d ask. I forgot that we were supposed to have a practice match together soon though.” Kiyoomi explains. Atsumu laughs “He definitely planned that out.” And Kiyoomi nods in agreement.

Atsumu and Kiyoomi lag behind the group a bit, holding hands as they walk. “Are you planning on drinking?” Kiyoomi asks. Atsumu groans “I might have one, I’m not really in the mood.” He says. Kiyoomi nods, it’s not that he wasn’t really in the mood, but he noticed that Kiyoomi seems somewhat uncomfortable when he drinks. Kiyoomi wasn’t a big drinker, sometimes he’d have a drink or two but that’s about it.

Atsumu has subconsciously cut back on his drinking habits because of this. The teams get settled into the bar, grabbing a big table in the back. “We gotta do this more often.” Hinata says as he throws back a shot. “Let’s do another round!” Bokuto cheers and orders another round of shots for the table, minus Atsumu and Kiyoomi.

The two sip on their respective beers quietly. “Kiyoomi let’s dance!” Komori says as he drags Kiyoomi to the dance floor. Kiyoomi protested and begged Atsumu to save him but Atsumu just waved at him as he got dragged away. “You two are so cute, I hope i can have a marriage like that someday.” Hinata says as he rest his head on the table.

“Yeah, I wasn’t expecting you two be as compatible as you are.” Inumaki comments. Atsumu laughs awkwardly “I wouldn’t say our marriage is anything to look up to.” He replies. “It’s the only healthy marriage i’ve seen, other than Cap and his wife.” Inumaki says and points to Meian. “I don’t know if you would call slapping eachother healthy.” Suna says with a chuckle.

“I never slapped him. He slapped me the one time.” Atsumu deadpans. “Me and Akaashi have them beat! We’re the better couple.” Bokuto argues passionately. “What!? No way! Me and Yama are the best couple.” Hinata retorts.

Atsumu doesn’t even know how it got to this point. He feels like he should stay out of it but he’s got nothing better to do. “Well me and Omi are married, so we’re superior.” Atsumu adds. “Well i’ve been with Akaashi since highschool! So it’s the same amount of time as yours!” Bokuto says.

“You haven’t married him though? Poor Akaashi.” Atsumu says and Suna snickers from beside him. “Shoyo, i think you’re out of the running. Didn’t you and Kageyama get together only a few years ago?” Inumaki asks. Hinata frowns and sits back in his seat “I knew I should’ve confessed in highschool.” Hinata mutters.

“Well Osamu and I have been together since second year.” Suna adds in. “And they didn’t break up unlike you and Akaashi.” Atsumu says and Bokuto freezes. Bokuto sits back down in his seat and starts muttering to himself like Hinata. “The final two, now who’s got the better relationship?” Inumaki teases.

“Meian.” Suna and Atsumu say in unison. Meian looks up from his drink “Wait what?” He asks. “Congratulations Cap! You just won the title of best couple!” Inumaki shouts and Meian looks so confused. Inumaki explains the whole conversation they all just had and Meian nods “I knew a decade of marriage would pay off one day.” He says proudly.

Everyone laughs, but Hinata and Bokuto still seem off in their own worlds. Kiyoomi and Komori come back from the dance floor and Kiyoomi plops down right beside Atsumu “I hate you.” Kiyoomi whispers to Atsumu. Atsumu smiles “You didn’t have fun dancing?” He teases. Kiyoomi glares at him “What a poor excuse of a husband, you couldn’t even save me from that?” Kiyoomi whispers back.

Atsumu looks to the side “I don’t know what you’re talking about. It looks like you are having fun out there.” He replies. Although Atsumu’s a bit salty that Kiyoomi wasn’t dancing with him instead. “I’m killing you when we get home.” Kiyoomi whispers back and Atsumu laughs. They end up staying for 2 more hours.

Atsumu surprisingly does get a dance out of Kiyoomi, it wasn’t as long as he’d like but getting Kiyoomi to agree to a short dance was accomplishment enough. The two walk back home hand in hand and Atsumu is feeling ecstatic. “You’re awfully happy for a dead man.” Kiyoomi says. “You can try to kill me! But then who’s make you dinner every night?” Atsumu replies.

Kiyoomi doesn’t reply and grumbles to himself. The two arrive home and Atsumu stretches out his limbs. “Hurry up and get ready for bed. We were out way too long.” Kiyoomi says and Atsumu nods. Atsumu and Kiyoomi get ready for bed and Atsumu lays down in his bed and frowns.

He knows he had an amazing night but sleeping in Kiyoomi’s amazingly comfortable bed makes his feel like a peasants. There’s a knock at his door. Atsumu jumps out of bed and opens the door. Kiyoomi stands outside his room and looks at Atsumu confused “What are you doing?” He asks.

“Trying to sleep..? Is something wrong?” Atsumu asks. Kiyoomi sighs and looks to the side “I’m your own bed?” He asks. Atsumu tilts his head in confusion “Do you want me to sleep with you..?” He asks hesitantly. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes and walks down the hallway, Atsumu shuts the door behind him and chases Kiyoomi. Atsumu had a really amazing night. He had fun and got to sleep in Kiyoomi’s bed.

Atsumu stares out the window in a daze. He hasn’t done this since he first got married, but he feels this should warrant it. Atsumu has been sleeping in the same bed as Kiyoomi every night for the past few weeks. Atsumu had held Kiyoomi’s hand every chance he gets.

He knows that their relationship has breached the friendship line a long time ago. He knows he loves Kiyoomi, but Atsumu has only just realized he’s in love with Kiyoomi. He feels stupid as hell, it was right in front of him the whole time.

He even told Kiyoomi he loved him, when he didn’t even know he felt that way. He feels like the stupidest man on earth, how could he miss that he was in love with his own husband. He knows he should bring it up to Kiyoomi, it was be awkward as hell raising a kid together if Atsumu didn’t say anything.

But he’s also nervous, so incredibly nervous. He’s like 85% sure Kiyoomi feels the same way about him but he can never be too sure. Maybe Kiyoomi already knows how Atsumu feels and is just waiting for him to say something. It’s embarrassing how whipped Atsumu was before he even realized. Flowers, dates, flirting!? Yeah Kiyoomi definitely knows. Or he hasn’t said anything because he doesn’t feel the same way.

“What wrong? You’re staring out of the window again.” Kiyoomi says as he walks up. “Well you got me this nice big window, I thought i’d use it.” Atsumu replies jokingly. Kiyoomi knees him and then sits down with him “Seriously, what’s wrong?” Kiyoomi asks as he takes Atsumu’s hand in his.

Atsumu looks over at Kiyoomi and see’s the warmth. A warmth that is only directed at Atsumu. “Am i stupid?” Atsumu asks. “Sometimes, yes. What does that have to do with anything?” Kiyoomi replies. Atsumu sighs “You love me right?” He asks. Kiyoomi blushes a bit “Yes… are you feeling okay?” Kiyoomi responds.

Atsumu glances to the side and looks Kiyoomi in the eyes again. He’s genuinely concerned. Atsumu closes his eyes and flushes in embarrassment “I might have, fallen fer ya Omi.” He admits. He thought it would be a lot harder to say but it was so easy, too easy. Kiyoomi is too kind, even if he didn’t feel the same nothing would change. Kiyoomi would still be his husband and that was enough.

Even if Kiyoomi couldn’t love him, he was more than happy to have the title of his husband. He just needed to tell him how he felt, they were a team after all. Atsumu feels cold shakey hands on his face then warmth on his lips. Atsumu’s eyes blow wide open.

Kiyoomi has leaned over and kissed Atsumu right on the lips. Kiyoomi pulls back and looks to the side in embarrassment “To answer your earlier question… Yes, you are incredibly stupid.” He says. Atsumu stares at him in shock. He was right on the money. Atsumu was just fucking stupid.

“I might have fallen for you too.” Kiyoomi admits. Atsumu blushes and smiles “You promise?” He asks. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes “Yes, I promise.” He says and smiles too. “Well this is awkward. Don’t people usually start dating after they confess?” Atsumu asks.

Kiyoomi pushes his face away and gets up. “Wait! I was just kidding!” Atsumu says as he chases after Kiyoomi. Their relationship didn’t change much, there was certainly more kisses, hugs and “i love you’s” but it was all the same. After 6 years of marriage Atsumu and Kiyoomi were now one, or they might have been all a long.

+1

“Haruka! You’re going to be late for school!” Atsumu yells. Foot stomps come rushing down the stairs “Sorry! Sorry! I was trying to find my homework.” Haruka explains as she shoves on her shoes. “Jeez, ya kids drive me crazy.” Atsumu groans out.

“Fuyuki and Naoyuki are way worse than me.” Haruka replies with a huff. Haruka, the baby girl they had been planning for so long ago is now 12 years old. Haruka Sakusa, she was an amazing addition to the family. Everyone loved her, she looked exactly like Kiyoomi, even having the same moles at him.

“Hurry up.” Kiyoomi commands and two sets of footsteps come running to the door. Atsumu smiles and he reaches out for Kiyoomi. “Did you get in trouble?” Fuyuki teases. Haruka glares “You’re even later than me.” She replies. “We’re all still late.” Naoyuki says as he points out the door to the bus.

The three kids rush outside “Bye! Love you!” They all shout as they rush onto the bus. Atsumu and Kiyoomi wave as the bus drives away. Four years after they had Haruka, they decided to try for more children, but with Atsumu’s dna. Turns out twins run in the family. On their first try they got pregnant with twins.

Twin boys Fuyuki and Naoyuki Sakusa, both 8 years old. With that, their little family was complete. “I think i pulled my back or something.” Kiyoomi says as he walks over to the living room, holding his back. “Of course ya did. You never let the children out of your hands.” Atsumu scolds. Kiyoomi grumbles “Yeah, yeah. Now hold me.” Kiyoomi says as he reaches out his hands.

Atsumu sighs and sits down on the couch and holds Kiyoomi. Kiyoomi smiles and nestles into his neck. Atsumu and Kiyoomi have been helplessly in love for the past 12 years. When Haruka was born, they took months off of work. They returned to volleyball when Haruka was 5 months old, they hired a nanny.

When the twins were born they took another 5 months off. But when the twins were 2, they made a difficult decision. They both retired from Volleyball. The children didn’t see them as much as they wanted to. Atsumu and Kiyoomi wanted to be present parents so they made the only right decision for their family.

It was a good run, they got to go to championships, they were even on the Japan olympic team. MSBY was special to them but their children were more important. Volleyball was always going to be there, they still practiced and trained when they had time. They had friends who were always willing to play with them.

Sakusa worked for his families company, from home of course. Atsumu coached kids volleyball as a side job and the two were happy. 8 years ago, they had another wedding. They wanted a proper wedding, that was filled with love. It was a much better wedding, all of their kids and family was there.

“We should have more.” Kiyoomi says. Atsumu laughs “Calm down, I think three is enough.” He replies. Kiyoomi frowns and looks at Atsumu. Atsumu smiles and gives Kiyoomi a kiss on the forehead “Happy 18th anniversary.” He says. Kiyoomi smiles “18 years. You know that’s the age we got married.” He says.

“Yeah. Half our lives together.” Atsumu says and holds Kiyoomi’s hand. “And to the rest of our lives.” Kiyoomi says and leans forward. Atsumu smiles into the kiss. Atsumu will never thank anyone for the arranged marriage. It was cruel to do to two 18 year olds. He wishes that they got together naturally. That Atsumu had worked up courage to talk to Kiyoomi at training camps, that they’d go on dates and Atsumu would confess normally.

But he is thankful he has Kiyoomi, it was a marriage of “convenience”. But they made it into something much more.

Notes:

I really enjoyed writing this :) originally I wasn't going to post this, it was just some silly thing I wrote that I was going to keep to myself but I think it turned out well!

(Also if anyone peeped Naoyuki from Kkumri you're a real one.)
