How do I say goodbye if this one is forever?

Summary:

when Izuku leaves U.A. he's expecting to lay low for a while, end the war on his own (preferably), come back and give his apologies in person. but for now he'll run away... as cowardly it may seem. Except (cuz there's always an except) things don't go as planned.

or

my take on the vigilante arc but with a twist :O

Chapter 1: Preface

Chapter Text

Izuku was going to leave U.A, he had to. It was a hard decision but since it meant protecting the ones he cared about, he didn't let himself have too much grief. His powers were increasing and he was basically a walking target for Shigaraki and all for one, especially since they now had ragdolls search quirk, he couldn't hide anywhere without putting everyone else in danger.

Maybe it was also partially a selfish choice, maybe he wanted to leave because he couldn't bear it, seeing everyone hurt. He was always at the heart of the problem anyways, even if the actual problem wasn't gone, he could alleviate himself from some of the guilt.

Since he wasn't heartless, he decided that he was going to at least write a letter, tell everyone the whole story. They decided to know by now. If fighting by his side for the past year wasn't enough to trust them, then he didn't know what was. He was finally going to tell everyone about one for all. At this point rumors were already going around about someone gaining more powers than they should have, so he might as well confirm it.

He already had a plan in place, and whether the pro heroes wanted to help him was their choice, he was leaving regardless and since at the very least all-might was going to follow him, he wasn't too worried.

Writing the letters was harder than he thought it would be. He found himself on the verge of tears on time too many, but it was for the best, right?

Each one was basically a variation of the last, detailing his powers, him being All-might's successor, the vestiges and why all for one was after him at this point. They were fairly easy to write once he got the hang of it, adding personalized stories in each but with the same main gist.

The only letter he was dreading, the one he seemed to be subconsciously avoiding, was Kachan’s. He couldn't not write him a letter, but he didn't know what to put down other than the words i'm sorry.
