Maybe In Another Life

Summary:

Jake is sick. really sick. he's been getting better, and things are looking up- until they're not

Notes:

so actually I am NEW ish to writing fics. I used to write a lot but it was in play format and that stuff was by a 13 year old with fictional crushes and a wild imagination. so this is miles below that level of expertise. chapters will most likely be short so that I actually update instead of yk.... abandoning... also this pic has no clear path. maybe I'll be too chicken. maybe I'll get too bold. who knows! anyways pls lmk if you like it. also lmk if I should change anything. actually should I even keep the chapters this short or......

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

The room was dark, most of the light coming in from either the open window or all the glowing devices surrounding Jake. He had been sick for almost a full year now, coming and going from the hospital. Jake’s been here so much that he has become good friends with one of the nurses around his age- what was his name again? Sunghoon? Anyways, Sunghoon sometimes snuck into Jake’s room on days where his shifts were more than 12 hours, bringing Jake another chocolate pudding or some of his favorite cereals. The two would talk about their amazing boyfriends that both had left at home, doing their own things.

Most days, when he wasn’t forced to work, Heeseung would be there. Right by Jake’s side. He was always by Jake’s side. Pretty much every morning and every night the two were able to spend together, they were always glued by the hip. Recently Heeseung hasn’t been able to visit Jake much. His work had been pulling him to and from, back and forth, here and back. Jake’s sure he’s spent more time taking medicine than seeing Heeseung this past month. It’s not his fault, though. Jake loves Heeseung and wants to support his dreams, so Jake has only been texting and calling him about the good things. Which was mainly everything.

So right now, everything’s good. Jake is getting better. Heeseung is achieving his dreams. Sunghoon almost has enough saved to get his dream house (which he promised to take Jake to so that he could see after he gets discharged). They’re coming up to the date that the doctor’s told Jake he would most likely die by, but the guy is healthier and happier than usual. Everything is good. Everything was good. Because one Tuesday night, at 8:56 pm, everything went wrong.
