A very long wait

Summary:

It was quiet in the hotel lobby as Jungsu waited. He was not in the mood to wait. It was late, and while the concert had been great, it had left him quite exhausted. Jungsu glanced at the clock: 00:14 AM. Sighing, he pulled out his phone and texted Gunil.

Work Text:

It was quiet in the hotel lobby as Jungsu waited. The space was cozy enough, with a couple of nice, comfortable sofas, each of which had some cute decorative pillows. Jungsu himself was perched on one of the equally comfortable chairs, though he was still too full of the adrenaline from the concert to completely settle down. He was not in the mood to wait. It was late, and while the concert had been great, it had left him quite exhausted.

Gaon and Jooyeon had checked straight into their room after the car had dropped them off, and were probably fast asleep already. It had been over half an hour since he watched them disappear upstairs (with no feelings of jealousy whatsoever). Jungsu glanced at the clock: 00:14 AM. Sighing, he pulled out his phone and texted Gunil.

Are you almost at the hotel yet?

It took a while for a response to appear, and Jungsu felt he was losing his patience by the minute.

Getting there, yeah. Why?

We’re supposed to share a room, remember?

Like I could ever forget that. ;)
But what, you didn’t check in yet?

They won’t let me in until you’re here.
Something about the room being booked
only under your name or something.

?
That’s unusual.
Wait, so you’ve been waiting all this time?

Yeah? Where’ve you been, anyway?

We had to take a detour. We’re almost there,
though. Five minutes!

Frowning at the vague answer, Jungsu put his phone back in his pocket and leaned his head back against the backrest. Good thing he didn’t have to wait much longer, or he might have fallen asleep right there. Just five more minutes…

Gunil was trying his hardest not to start yelling at their driver to hurry along. The man had been nothing but helpful with the execution of his little plan, and he was all in all just a very nice guy. But Jungsu was waiting for him, and apparently unable to retire to his room like Gunil knew he was probably very eager to do. Genuinely, the one time he tries something nice… He just hoped he hadn’t completely ruined Jungsu’s evening by the time he (and O.de and Junhan, who he had almost forgotten were still sitting next to him) finally got there.

When the hotel door finally opened and Jungsu was – admittedly – startled awake, he immediately turned around in expectation. To his disappointment, though, only O.de and Junhan entered. They didn’t even offer so much as an hello, simply lifting a hand in greeting and going straight for the reception. In less than a minute they were gone again, disappearing into the elevator in something suspiciously close to a hurry.

Jungsu narrowed his eyes. There was definitely something wrong here. And where, for God’s sake, was Gunil?

It was then that the door swiveled open again, and Gunil haphazardly stumbled in. His eyes searched the room, and, when landing on Jungsu, he immediately recovered himself and pulled out a bouquet of flowers from behind his back. It took a while for Jungsu to register this detail, however, because Gunil was in a suit. A very handsome suit.

‘Sorry I’m late! I really tried to hurry, but I couldn’t find a flower store that was open, and there was really a surprising amount of traffic so late at night… From the look on your face, though, it seems like it was worth the wait?’ He cocked his head and winked when he said that, and annoyingly, he was right. Jungsu couldn’t even be frustrated with him anymore.

‘It’s fine’, he managed to answer, blinking a couple of times before finally realizing he should probably take the flowers Gunil was still holding out to him. The man is question was just grinning at him, before suddenly starting to rummage around in his bag. ‘Anyway, I hope you’re not too mad at me’, he said, turning his back and putting his bag down on one of the chairs, throwing out several items.

‘I already said it’s fine’, Jungsu answered, but Gunil held up a finger to silence him before abruptly turning around again and holding out a box of chocolates. ‘I hope you won’t dessert me’, he added, already laughing at his own joke.

‘I don’t suppose I can, being stuck in the same hotel room as you and all’, Jungsu deadpanned, but he couldn’t help smiling as he took the chocolates in the hand that wasn’t holding the flowers. He felt suddenly acutely aware of the vicinity of Gunil still standing across from him, and his own arms now full with gifts. Flustered, and hoping the limited light of the hotel lobby hid well the blush that was most likely covering his cheeks, he decided he probably should ask the question burning on his tongue:

‘Why, exactly, did you bring all this?’, he asked hesitantly, holding up the flowers and chocolates into Gunil’s line of sight as if he might have already forgotten about their existence. The other man just grinned.

‘You almost make it sound like an accusation’, he joked, obviously enjoying the way it made Jungsu even more embarrassed. Despite his embarrassment, though, Jungsu still stared at him questioningly. Gunil vaguely waved a hand in answer.

‘Can’t a guy just get some flowers for his flower?’, he tried, but this time, Jungsu only raised an eyebrow. It was evidently Gunil’s turn to get flustered, as he looked away when he realized Jungsu wasn’t going to drop the question. He laughed awkwardly once, likely gathering his courage before finally resting his gaze back on Jungsu.

His first answer hadn’t been completely untrue, exactly. He and Jungsu had been dating for a while now, when this afternoon it had suddenly occurred to him that he had never really bought Jungsu anything. At least, not anything just to pamper him. And he had thus decided it was high time for something like that.

But that was only half the truth. He had noticed how tired Jungsu had been lately, busy with perfecting some new song he was working on, touring all the while… And somehow still managing to always have a listening ear ready for the other members, and a smile for the fans. Gunil simply worried he worked a little bit too hard sometimes. He deserved to get spoiled every now and then. Which had led him to the same conclusion: it was high time for something like that.

Taking a deep breath, he decided that Jungsu deserved to know that second reason as well. So he finally opened his mouth.

‘Well… Although I do think I should just be able to get you flowers whenever’ – Jungsu still looked unimpressed – ‘I also wanted to… thank you, I suppose. For everything you do for us – for me. You’ve been so busy lately, so I wanted to do something nice for you, however cheesy it may be.’ It came out better than he had expected.

Jungsu was still staring at him, though the emotions behind his gaze had entirely transformed. There was a slight dusting of pink steadily expanding on his cheeks, and it took him several seconds to tear his eyes away, blinking rapidly while doing so.

‘That’s… really nice of you’, he eventually said, now unable to look Gunil in the eye. Jungsu bit his lip, then gathered himself and glanced sidelong at him. ‘Although flowers and chocolates really are extremely cheesy. Like, Hallmark Christmas rom com cheesy.’ He turned fully back to Gunil now.

‘So obviously I love it.’ He smiled, and Gunil could feel a grin spread across his own face. ‘Tomorrow we’ll go on a date’, he added, cheekily placing a kiss on Gunil’s lips as he did so, ‘but for now, can we please finally go to our hotel room?’

Gunil laughed, grabbing onto Jungsu’s wrist as he tried to pull away. ‘One thing I have to do first’, he said, cupping Junsu’s cheek and kissing him properly. And for a moment, this dimly lit hotel lobby was the most romantic place on earth.
