Daisy is undeterred by Red’s stoic silence. Inevitably, he ends up sitting beside her on the couch in her granddad’s house. Red isn’t a tea person. Yet he sips chamomile tea with her. The warm, honey-sweetened brew calms him, just as she thought it would. He snatches shy glances at her, until she holds one of them.
I like you, her soft brown eyes say. A lot.
He remains silent. Her chest tightens. But then his lips quiver and part.
“I like you too,” Red blurts. “And I’ve been wondering if—”
Daisy is already nodding.
“Yes,” Daisy gasps, grinning. “Absolutely.”
