Chapter Text
Rokea is cold. The entire store probably had a thousand different vents for the AC to come out of. Lampert didn’t mind it, he couldn’t feel temperature as intensely as most people could. Kasper on the other hand, was most people.
“bro did u move ur base or something idk where tf i am right now”
Lampert watched as his phone lit up with another message.
”lampertttttt where are you im gonna freeze to deathhhhh”
“How do you even expect me to move my entire base”
”idk”
”Kasper did you even follow the trail I made?”
”ohh shit mb i forgot about that be there soon”
A short while later Kasper appears at the top of Lampert’s base, almost falling off the edge from how fast he ran up.
”Hey huff I got Jesus Christ that took so long I GOT SNACKS. DO YOU WANT ANY.”
”Are you okay?” Lampert stifled his laughter, watching the boy in front of him lean against the pillar his base was built on while gesturing for him to take a plastic bag filled with food.
Trying desperately to catch his breath, Kasper eventually got out the words “Lamps I’ve been trying to find you for 20 minutes now, I got chased by an employee even though it’s 5 IN THE AFTERNOON AND THE LIGHTS ARE ON, AND I just ran all the way up here. Don’t look at me like that.”
He stumbles over to the nearby couch and falls onto one of the cushions. Everything in Lampert’s base still smells like it just came out of the store (considering it never left) with a hint of disinfectant. Although, saying “everything” was a bit of an overstatement. The platform was practically empty.
Lampert joins Kasper on the couch, turning on his tv.
”How’s that tv even on all the way up here? Like, what’s it connected to?”
”…Three really long extension cords. There’s an outlet at the base of the pillar.”
”Can you ever be normal.”
”Kas there are employees everywhere do you want me to get killed when the lights turn off? It’s safer high up like this.”
He adds just loud enough for Kasper to hear over the tv, “You’re one to talk about being normal…”
”HEY!” The last thing Lampert sees before falling onto the wooden pallets that make up his floor is Kasper lunging at him withered foxy style from across the couch. The two wrestle to get back up first for a moment before Kasper finally stands upright and flops back down onto the couch.
”I hope you know you only won because I let you,” Lampert giggles as he stands up. “I’ll get you next time.”
”Yeah, you keep saying that.”
There’s a brief moment of silence before Kasper moves to get up before stopping. There was something keeping him in place.
“Yo lamps you got something there” He gestures towards the ground.
Lampert leans down to see what Kasper is pointing at, expecting it to be his phone or something else he dropped while they were both on the floor.
Nope. His tail was in fact wrapped around Kasper’s ankle. He jumped up faster than Kasper had ever seen him move before, and that’s saying a lot.
”Oh my god I’m so sorry I didn’t even realize-“ Kasper cut him off. “You’re all good man, I just wanna get up without you making me trip and fall on my face, intentionally or not.” He smirks and walks away to get something from his bag.
”You know if you want me to sit closer to you, you can just ask, right?” Holy shit I actually just said that what if he thinks I’m weird
He turns away so Lampert can’t see his face turning bright red from a simple question.
”Oh, um- thank you for… telling me? I guess?” The faint light behind Lampert’s face got brighter.
Kasper sits back down with a soda and chips in his hand, this time closer to the lamp on the other end. “ANYWAY. What do you wanna do?” Ok maybe he doesn’t think I’m weird he seems fine with this?
”I mean, I’m cool with just watching a movie if you’re up for it.”
”Uh… yeah. That sounds nice.”
The Rokea was cold, but they had each other. That made it a little more bearable.
