Rocket swung open the door to the Da Shop, walking past Zuka and straight to his room. His heart pounded faster than it normally would, and his palms were a bit sweaty. Today was the day he had decided that he was going to tell Zuka about him and Sword’s relationship. He didn’t want to tell Zuka, but he’d rather his father find out this way than some horrible other embarrassing option. He sighed before standing up and leaving his room.
He stood in the shadow of the kitchen, watching Zuka cook. He went to step forward, but hesitated.
“Hi kiddo, how was your day?” Zuka always treated Rocket like he was still a child, and while it usually annoyed him beyond belief, today he didn't really mind. Zuka looked up from the stove where he was cooking gods know what, , staring at Rocket.
Rocket froze, tensing up at the sudden question. “It was good,” he answered after a moment of contemplating what to say. They stared at each other in awkward silence until Rocket finally spoke up. “Dad… I have to tell you something.” Rocket fidgeted nervously with a loose string on his sleeve.
“What?” he responds, a bit of sizzling hot oil popping him in the face as he practically abandoned the food, worried about his son's anxiousness.
“...” Rocket didn’t respond for a few minutes. Soon enough, Zuka heard Rocket nervously say “I’m dating a guy.”
“Oh. who?”
Rocket blinked once, dumbfounded. Zuka didn’t sound angry, let alone surprised (he knew this day would come). “Sword,” Rocket finally managed to reply.
“Oh.. well, it’s not like it wasn’t obvious. You two were very.. into each other, as one would put it. It’s not like I haven’t known.” He goes back to cooking the meat, sighing as he looks at Rocket with pity.
